Came here yesterday for a jolly good late pub lunch…read more We'd had a lovely sunny walk along the canal to my friend's local, over the sunny beer garden, past the ample parking and through the doors. We were greeted immediately with smiles and friendly waitresses and barmaids, and sat in your standard pub chairs, complete with cushions that don't match the standard ugly carpet... The food was basic, with two roasts of the day, and a well filled specials board. I narrowed down to three meaty choices, knowing my impending pescetarian house mate, and we picked drinks whilst we narrowed down our options. We each ended up going for exactly the same; blueberry ale, Baked Brie wedges to start, and a main of steak and ale pie, chips and veggies. The Brie were tasty, but definitely the pre packed sort, with a side salad. The main was huge, a square pie, with tasty, short pastry, and plenty of big chunks of meat, with thick chips, green beans (that had kept their green-ness, hurrah!) cauliflower, and sweet, almost slightly caramelised tasting carrots. All served with a generous boat of gravy. The blueberry ale was clear, deep purple, with a slightly lilac head, and a pleasant taste of fresh juicy blueberries without overtaking any hoppy beeryness. All reasonably priced, and tasty to boot. If you fall upon this place on a walk (about a minute from the old boat lift, you can't miss it) I'd recommend popping in for an ale if nothing else. It's definitely a basic pub, but they do it well.

It turned out that the rave that I was going to didn't start until 3:00 pm, but I caught the bus…read morethat took me there at 10:00 am, which wasn't too bad because it meant I could go for a wander and visit some pubs that I wouldn't normally be able to visit, such as this one. It is a rather quiet English pub out in the country, with the rather charming interior that you would expect from a lot of these pubs. However, it also has a huge beer garden, which is delightful in summer, though I do have to admit that I've really only been in England during the summer so I haven't exactly experienced the worst that weather has to offer. Still, yeah, it's a rather nice pub.

It's set just outside the charming village of Stockton Heath and has that country pub feel without having to venture too far from civilisation. The bar stocks some good ales but I opted for Old Mout Cider, a fruity little number that was perhaps a bit too easy to drink, hence a sore head this morning. There's a lovely beer garden out the back with picnic tables, parasols and plenty of grass space for kids to run around. Staff are friendly and the locals seem like decent folk ( I certainly didn't spot any track suits, which is always a good sign). Food wise, we were treated to a delicious buffet of Thai fish cakes, chicken wings, salad and pulled pork, which was delicious. So judging by this, I would imagine their everyday food menu is pretty good too.
