The Te Ika Mata is raw market fish (cod today), coconut, coriander, chili and lime. The Aglio was warm and fresh and the the confit garlic had a great flavor without being overpowering and was very good. The Te Ika Mata had a wonderful flavor - a hint of lime mixed with the coriander (cilantro for those from the U.S. in a liquid with subtle coconut flavor. The flavors worked so well together - I was very pleasantly surprised and our server was right - the two (Aglio and Te Ika Mata) worked very well together. Deluca is the package - great food, coffee, baked goods, atmosphere and service. There is literally nowhere else in the area that will give you all of these things for a reasonable price. The decor is lovely - a charming mix of polished industrial and cottage. It's covered with hanging bottles, jars, and has a nice stand with fresh baked goods such as scones, croissants and buns. The counters are lined with jars of cookies and slices, and there's a main display full of sandwiches and salads. You can also order off of their menu, which is a little pricey but worth the effort. I highly recommend the kumara cake with poached eggs! Whether you're a local or just stopping in town on your way up north, check out Deluca - it's a humble little spot that rivals the cafes of Auckland and Melbourne.
