After searching for a great stylist I finally found the right salon. I did not know they were voted the best hairdressers and so true. I'm so picky about my hair I used to travel from New Orleans to Ocala to have my hair done but after 15 years with the same girl she quit and went into the medical field. I love how the girls will look at each others work and bounce ideas off one another. I was in there all day so I got to see a lot of hairstyles come and go. I got a partial foil from James; and experienced the worst possible outcome I could have ever imagined. I had about 5 months of out growth; so it was easy for him not to over lap the bleach. He put 30 volume bleach, sat me under the heat lamp and walked away (totally un professional- heat should be applied sparingly if at all.) I told him it was starting to burn I think we should rinse it off, he checked and said "oh no girl your fine." I finally said James I need this off my head please. After washing the bleach out, he added a toner. We went back to his chair and he said I'm going to let you brush it out ( which I thought was weird) My first brush pulled out a huge chunk of damaged bleach hair. My second stroke, even more.... I said "James....please come here... look at this...." He started making weird excuses, like its just a little breakage, no big deal. I have never experienced so much damage, so much breakage in my life. I could go on, but I believe a picture says a thousand words. James gave me my best haircut in years. As an older woman my hair is thin and difficult to style. James asked me questions about my lifestyle and gently pulled my hair into several styles. I tried this place because of the great reviews. It was dirty, my stylist was late and smelled like cigarette smoke, he stoped to go outside and smoke a couple of times during the appointment, the chair and area around the seat where he cut my hair was dirty from previous customers, and I have never been so dissatisfied with a haircut as I am after this stylist cut my hair. I told him what I needed, and he gave me something completely bizarre, unsexy, and unprofessional. I have to get it fixed before I can show up at work again. And I know some do not care about the following, but for those that do: I called beforehand to see if the employees were wearing masks. The lady on the phone assured me that my stylist would definitely be wearing his. In fact, he was the only one in the place NOT wearing a mask. This with COVID numbers skyrocketing in Ocala. I should have walked out the second I got the red flags and bad vibes, but armed with my own face covering, I was trying to give the benefit of the doubt. Hi my name is kaylee and I am super disappointed and upset about my experience I had on Saturday March the 19th . I came in with long hair that was yellow and bronzy . I wanted it bleached and silver toned . My hair was healthy and even the man that did it said so . I only wanted 1 inch off and l kept repeating that I wanted to keep my length . He never brushed my hair to start . (It was in a long tail and I had the window down ) he was very rough . Didn't really section it and only used a shampoo bleach mix to bleach my hair . I wanted a shadow root at first and he said it wouldn't look right with silver and to keep my root which I didn't want if I couldn't get silver . He told me I'd either leave with being platinum or silver . I left with neither . Nothing I wanted happened . He never explained anything or communicated . He then spun me around (so I couldn't see )  after ripping all my hair out and started chopping my hair all the way to almost my shoulders . I was in shock . I was so upset I just sat there and stared in disbelief . I did not want my hair anywhere close to that length . Only and inch and he took off 5-6 inches . My roots are dark and my hair isn't even that light. One side of my hair is longer than the other side and the cut is horrible ! Then to top it all off my new shirt I bought the day before is ruined from the bleach . He then told me that he new I didn't want my hair that short and the next toner was on him . ABSOLUTELY horrible experience for paying almost $200 . James the stylist is now lying saying he told me before hand I would have to cut all my hair off . if that was the case I would have not went through with it . They won't give me my money back now . read more

I recently had a very bad experience at Proper Tease Salon, Colton was my stylist. The first appt. I experienced there was good. My second most recent experience at Proper Tease Salon was the worst experience at a hair salon I have ever had. I went in for a cut and partial highlight and came out with gold hair. There were no highlights. He told me that my hair was "blonder than usual" but that it would change in a few days. I like blond but this seemed gold to me. When I first met him I specifically told him I do not like gold/red hair highlights and he told me that he takes great care not to do so. I was stunned. I went home and my hair was not right and looked no better at home. I was unhappy and distressed. I was going on vacation a few days later so I called twice and left a message for Colton that I needed to speak to him regarding my hair. I was told Colton received my message but he never called back. I emailed the salon owner Ron twice from vacation, telling him about the bad service I got and related to him my concern that Colton was not responsive. By this time my hair was very frizzy and breaking off as well and I shared that with him too, I received no reply. It appeared neither the stylist Colton or the salon owner, Ron did not care at all. Given my impression, I should have stayed away but in giving them a chance to make amends the service got worse. I did get a reply from Amy the Proper Tease Salon receptionist after I left for vacation, who stated she left Colton a note in his mailbox twice and could not understand why he did not call. She asked me to call her and gave me her cell number. She said the owner never checks email and that things had been crazy since the receptionist quit suddenly. She called me while I was gone on vacation and offered their "style guaranty" and wanted to make an appt. for me I called and made the appt. but was still uncomfortable that my stylist Colton had not responded. When I arrived for my appt he saw me and immediately went over to confer with the receptionist. He seemed surprised and a little distressed to see me. They stepped away outside to talk. A few minutes later Colton greeted me and told me he did call me. I told him I never received a call or a message from him. He agreed to put some darker highlights and a deep conditioning treatment. After he did the highlights, he disappeared for 50 to 60 minutes. Another client was there for some corrective color as well and had left long ago. I looked around and despite the fact I was sitting at a table right in the middle of the salon no one had noticed I was sitting there for so long unattended with color on my hair. Eventually another of the stylists Raul took notice..."Why has she been sitting there so long?" I commented "That's what I'd like to know..." He stated something like, "Well your hair is not going to fall out or anything" He went to look for Colton. Raul told me Colton was in the office and did not feel well and Raul was going to rinse me out. I told him I was to have a deep conditioner too and he did that. I asked how long I was to sit under the dryer with the deep conditioner in my hair and he said 15 minutes and then maybe Ron would blow out my hair. The dryer got way too hot and no one paid attention or asked how I was doing as I tried to set the temperature down to no avail and finally I turned the dryer off and sat in front of it. Ron finally asked how I was doing but cut me off before I could answer. I was bewildered and upset but he did not notice. Raul came by and I asked who was finishing my hair and he went to the back to confer with Colton again. Colton came out and complained about coming down with the flu. He acted like he was too weak and exhausted to function. I just wanted to get out of there at that point, so I told him to just dry my hair and not to style it, He took forever. When I looked at my hair in the mirror it was an all over mousy brown. Once again he told me it would change/brighten up in a few days. Once again I had not been given what I paid for and very bad service. When I finished I washed my hands and thanked Raul for his help. I looked over and Colton was standing with peers; smiling and talking and suddenly looking like he was feeling fine. I am just flabbergasted at how I was treated. read more

I've been here several times. Today I called at the last minute to get a hair cut, and they were able to work me in. Always friendly and welcoming. This salon ruined my hair. I simply asked for an all one color, light brown dye job. When the lady revealed what she did to my hair, I tried so hard to hold back tears. My hair was pitch black. I didn't even want to pay because it was so off of what I had asked for. I went back twice to see if they could make it any lighter for free because i was so unhappy, both times they used BLEACH on my hair to try and lighten it. My hair was beyond damaged. Two weeks later I went to a different salon in Ocala, asked for the exact same thing that I asked Proper Tease for, and this salon knew exactly what to do and repaired the damage that Proper Tease caused. Ron is the BEST!!! He was recommended to me by a friend when I lived in Orlando who insisted I make the hour drive to Ocala to try him out. I'm SO glad I did, it was well worth the trip! He has a great eye and is equally talented at cuts and coloring which is hard to find both skills in one person. I have lived all over the country, including LA and New York, and still look forward to my visits to Florida to go see Ron and get my hair done! I did not feel welcomed. Not only did I have an appointment, I waited and hour and a half for the appointment I made-and ended up walking out after waiting so long. I called and scheduled an appointment with Colton. When I arrived on time, I had to wait through Colton and the owner 1) taking a smoking break; 2) Colton playing with his pet squirrel; 3) Colton friend coming in and kissing - sorry whoever you are as a person is fine but kissing in front of customers is not good for any business establishment; and 4) Colton taking a lunch break to McDonald's and eating lunch before starting on my hair. At one point I asked the owner if he could wait on me as he was not busy during part of this time, and he said "no" that my appointment was with Colton so I would have to wait for him. I almost got up and left at that point, but stupid me, I stayed. Colton FINALLY settled down two hours later to color and cut my hair. The color was good, but the cut was not. Colton was now in a hurry to cut my hair because he had to leave for a doctor's appointment - so I got a shoddy haircut. When I went to pay cash and "high tail" out of there as now I was pretty upset as I thought I would get a great hair cut and style and didn't and just wanted to get out of there, I paid cash and they had no change. Another delay as everyone scampered around for change. Colton says that happens all the time. As I left, the owner yelled "please don't forget to give us a five-star rating," to which I thought "yeah, right!" I did see the owner do nice hair styles (three and a hair consultation while I waited for Colton) and he should have buckled Colton down to do his job, but alas he did not. I was lucky I wasn't in a hurry that day because the words "hurry" or "customer service" were not evident for Colton this day. As for me, my hair has grown out and I'm happy at another salon with no pet squirrels as I will never return.
