Had a pleasant experience here…read more The hotel was nicely furnished, and, more importantly, very clean. I even walked barefoot on the bathroom floor, which I almost NEVER do at hotels (ew, germs!). The staff was friendly, and checking in and out was quick and easy. The comforters on the beds were divine - spotlessly white, and puffy as clouds. Didn't swim in the pool, but it looked nice. Fitness center was small but seemed adequate (but what do I know? I don't work out). Pretty typical hotel breakfast, although a bit more extensive than I was expecting. They had a waffle maker! At any rate, I would have given this place five stars, except for one glitch: the shower head in my bathroom was broken. It wouldn't swivel, and it wouldn't change pressure settings like it was supposed to. And since my absolute favorite part about staying in a hotel is taking a long and fabulous shower, I had to dock a star. (Also the door to my bathroom wouldn't shut properly, but that didn't really matter to me because I was staying in the room by myself.) Would stay there again if ever I found myself back in Columbia, IL.

A great stay! Clean rooms (website pics are actually accurate and current), friendly staff, great…read morefree breakfast which had the sweetest staff member who kept breakfast items stocked and area cleaned. The bathroom in our room could have been cleaned better, but this was a HUGE upgrade to the nightmare of a room we had originally booked at the La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham in O'Fallon, Illinois and was supposed to stay at, so we were much more pleased with our stay and experience.

Just spent the first night at FdL for 14 relationship anniversary with Mrs V (sans children!!!!)…read moreand it was LOVELY! Owners Mark and Leslie are very kind, attentive, and share a lot of history of the mansion and recommendations without being obtrusive. The mansion rooms are well appointed and I would highly recommend one of their food packages. We did chocolate and wine and both were amazing at a reasonable price considering the quality (which was good). Mark is a chef by trade (second career) and makes a darn good breakfast! There are complimentary snacks coffee and tea available 24/7. Location is great. The place has a bit of a dated feel and there are some repairs/upgrades needed here and there but keep in mind Dear Traveler: this couple has only owned the place for 15 months so I'm confident minor facelifts are coming. Only VERY minor complaint, and it's only from personal taste: food although delicious is a bit carb-heavy. This is no fault of the owners and they give you plenty of opportunity prior to your stay to mention any diet preferences, which I failed to do. So no knock on FdL at all. If in St. Louis visiting or need a nice staycation check this place out!! FYI they do a great job with COVID compliance, too

The Fleur-de-Lys is the epitome of a luxurious getaway. Whether it is the quaintly appointed guest…read morerooms or the delightful library and parlor, each area of this former residence is unique and meticulously maintained. While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. We'll be back - and you should give Fleur-de-Lys a try!

I've always wanted to stay at this motel!…read more It gets such great reviews, but I only knew about the restaurant. The food here is excellent, the staff is wonderfully accomodating, so I figured, surely the sleeping accommodations are on par with the restaurant! I was not wrong! First tip. Call for a reservation, dont book online. It'll save you some tall cash on an already mega cheap stay. They have discounts for everything- CDL rates, bare bones stay rates, etc, my kinda place! They charged me $20 less than the lowest online price I could find. And it is soooooo clean! My goodness, this is why I love staying in hotels! This right here- so clean you can smell it. I think from now on, when I come to quaint lil Pocahontas, IL, I'm not going to only eat at the excellent restaurant, Eh, might as well get a room while I'm at it, instead of sleeping in my semi. You should too!!! For a teeny, tiny town, there is a TON to do here! The entire town is interesting little antique shops, one of them sells homemade ice cream and candy. You can literally spend a full day walking around the town, inspecting fascinating objects from bygone eras and eating a wide variety of foods. There are 3- yes, three, full service restaurants in town, all lil mom & pop places, a gourmet place, a burger joint, and the restaurant attached to the motel, a full variety American food place. Semi parking exists at every single restaurant, almost all the businesses have casino games, which is hilariously weird lol, but what an easy way to spend not very much money, doing really interesting things you might not get to in your every day life. Spend a weekend here! I promise, it'll be one of the most fun weekends of your life! I forgot! The coolest thing I ever heard of in my life!! Guess what time check in is? Guess! Guess! Um... it's whatever time you roll on in. 11 am? Cool. 4 pm? Eh that works. Whatevs. They are so damn chill! Show up when you get here, if it's going to be after 10 pm, call and let them know, so they don't stay up all night worrying about you. What an awesome motel!!!!

My friend and I stayed in the Meadowlark Room, featuring two full beds and a shower/tub. The room was immaculately clean, quiet, and adorably antiquated. Connie and Gary could not have not been kinder or more hospitable hosts. Breakfast was lovely, and hot and cold beverages were available in the common area along with Connie's delicious homemade treats -- she even insisted on packaging up brownies for us to take on the road when we departed! When visiting, do ask Connie and Gary for instructions on how to take a self-guided driving tour of nearby Principia College, which features many amazing buildings by architect Bernard Maybeck and stunning views from the bluffs of the Mississippi River. I'll be looking for an excuse to return to Elsah for another stay at Green Tree Inn... Highly recommended!

The Inn has the same warm and homey feel to it as it was with Connie and Gary. They have converted the "antique" room to a game room and filled it with board games ( or bring your own.) The breakfasts were fantastic (especially Megan's breakfast pizza with a puff pastry crust.) The afternoon treats are amazing (cinnamon pecan coffee cake and fresh raspberry cheesecake tarts..yumm!) The common area with the fireplace and the comfy couch and chairs is perfect after a day of hiking a Pere Maquette or exploring Grafton. The rooms are cozy and very clean. It is such a relaxing getaway ! I look forward to many more trips to the Green Tree Inn !
