Very clean basic motel with restaurant. This the perfect place to stay if traveling through or visiting Copper Dock Winery only 4 minutes away! Flat screen tv with loaded roku (apple tv, Netflix, Disney, Hulu), microwave, fridge, ac/heat (was a bit loud but works). Comfy bed, well maintained property! Only giving 4 stars bc the ac was SO SO loud! Other than that exactly what we needed after being at a winery wedding. read more

As the long chamber of commerce reviews state it is older 70s style motel. The rooms were very clean and plenty of towels. You have to go to the restaurant to get your keys but that gives you a chance to enjoy great food. The windows in room I stayed in would not lock. The bathroom latches were broken. The front window had a pin but it would not stay in. The walls are thin. I could hear every conversation from next door, every bathroom sound and I could tell they were smokers by all the hacking. I've always wanted to stay at this motel! It gets such great reviews, but I only knew about the restaurant. The food here is excellent, the staff is wonderfully accomodating, so I figured, surely the sleeping accommodations are on par with the restaurant! I was not wrong! First tip. Call for a reservation, dont book online. It'll save you some tall cash on an already mega cheap stay. They have discounts for everything- CDL rates, bare bones stay rates, etc, my kinda place! They charged me $20 less than the lowest online price I could find. And it is soooooo clean! My goodness, this is why I love staying in hotels! This right here- so clean you can smell it. I think from now on, when I come to quaint lil Pocahontas, IL, I'm not going to only eat at the excellent restaurant, Eh, might as well get a room while I'm at it, instead of sleeping in my semi. You should too!!! For a teeny, tiny town, there is a TON to do here! The entire town is interesting little antique shops, one of them sells homemade ice cream and candy. You can literally spend a full day walking around the town, inspecting fascinating objects from bygone eras and eating a wide variety of foods. There are 3- yes, three, full service restaurants in town, all lil mom & pop places, a gourmet place, a burger joint, and the restaurant attached to the motel, a full variety American food place. Semi parking exists at every single restaurant, almost all the businesses have casino games, which is hilariously weird lol, but what an easy way to spend not very much money, doing really interesting things you might not get to in your every day life. Spend a weekend here! I promise, it'll be one of the most fun weekends of your life! I forgot! The coolest thing I ever heard of in my life!! Guess what time check in is? Guess! Guess! Um... it's whatever time you roll on in. 11 am? Cool. 4 pm? Eh that works. Whatevs. They are so damn chill! Show up when you get here, if it's going to be after 10 pm, call and let them know, so they don't stay up all night worrying about you. What an awesome motel!!!! read more

Great little hotel. I stay dozens of hotels every year, and this is one of my favorites. Its, clean and charming, and while it has been modernized It still has a kind of old school charm that reminds of the hotels like this i stayed in as a kid. We got in at midnight and Sally(the owner, i think) , came out to make sure we got checked in with no problems. It was like showing up at Grandma's house when you were little. We were tired and looking for a place to rest our weary heads and get off the road. We feel lucky we found this clean roadside Hwy 70 Motel. The cafe beside it is the place to check in. The staff was welcoming and so helpful. We had room 12, with a king size bed. Lots of room. A couple of chairs to sit in. The rustic looking floor and tile work added to the charm along with the window boxes of plants on the outside. With the cafe a few steps away, it made our one night stay very pleasant. The bathroom had soft white fluffy towels and what looked like new sink and toilet. The air conditioner was a wall unit and was a bit loud throughout the night but it didn't stop us from sleeping. Serendipity at its best... This place is great! It was definitely a trip down memory and nostalgia lane. I like the dated ambience and I did not know nice motels like this even existed anymore. Remember, outward appearances are only skin deep. The rooms are clean, the huge bed was fantastic, and the staff was very courteous. So, if you want to take a trip down memory lane... The outside of this motel looks suspect and sketch. The inside was a complete and welcome surprise! I arrived to my check-in at 3 a.m. The motel is incongruence with the restaraunt, so I went into the restaraunt to check-in. The restaraunt is nice and clean with good food, good coffee, and nice people. The prices are about what you would see at IHOP, around $10 a plate. When you stay at the hotel, you can simply add your meal to the hotel bill. It's nice! The room itself is stunning. I stayed in room ten. Nice decor, and the bed really is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept on. As far as motels go, I've never been more comfortable. Motel 8 could learn a thing or two from this place! read more

"All the Charm of a Crime Scene" One of the worst places I have ever spent the night in. The was no Motel staff. You have to get a room key from the waitress at a diner. The room was filthy. Most things were broken. I slept in a sleeping bag as I suspected the place had bed bugs. The door lock was a joke. I placed the microwave on the floor to hold the door shut and to give me warning if some one opened the door. The walls are paper thin. I had to but up with the disgusting sounds coming from the room next door. That was the only other guest and the gave me an adjoining room. A couple of prostitutes got in a yelling match in the parking lot around 2 am. It was charming. I paid $60 to spend the night in this crime scene. Don't recommend it. read more

These places do still exist! Clean, affordable, quiet, clean...did I mention clean? I was very happy to have found a real gem along I-70. Very easy on/off the interstate, large parking lot, well maintained rooms with benches out front. I measure the quality of a hotel room by two things, if its clean and how the water pressure is in the shower...and the water pressure was better than most modern day hotels by far! The staff were very accommodating, even had the old style motel key. The adjoining restaurant is also a great place for a nice meal at a reasonable price but arrive hungry because they are serious about the Big breakfast. A charming place right off I-70, why stay anywhere else if you are in the area? Save some money and enjoy an "old school" nights sleep at the Powhatan. read more

We stayed in this motel for a night while driving across the country. The motel was connected to a restaurant so you have to go into the restaurant to get the key. The staff was really kind! They have an awesome family meal special that gives you fried chicken, a quart of spaghetti, and a large salad all for $20!! However, the lock on the door didn't work properly and the fridge didn't keep our food cold. The floor was also sticky (especially in the bathroom). The bed was clean and comfortable! The walls are really thin so we could hear our neighbors for a large part of the night. Overall a fine place to stay for the night when road tripping. read more

I did not want to stop here, but my husband insisted. We found a diamond in the rough!! Don't judge a book by its cover. We stayed in the suite and it was one of the nicest rooms I've ever been in!! After countless attempts to find a clean place to rest our extremely tired heads we stumbled upon this place. Thank god we did super super clean. Very nice staff and very comfortable beds. We stopped early in the morning and it was still very peaceful an quiet to sleep. We will make this one of our stops every trip. read more

My friend driving cross country trusts me to navigate remotely. Checking his location/speed I decided he could reach Pocahontas, IL as his stop point last night. I found the Powhatan Motel. I read reviews from trip advisor and yelp. One mentioned home-made peach cobbler from the restaurant next door, and cleanliness. Yelpers talked about cleanliness, great water pressure, big breakfast and staff. I thought it would be a treat to have a REAL restaurant next door with hopefully decent food after a long day's drive. With the price, I called to book the room and asked the exit number (36 w/easy i70 on/off access.) His first text message post check in was, "I am going to eat, call when finished." 2nd text message, "THANK YOU", 3rd text message," You can tell Yelp that for what they are as a country dining place the food is as good as some of the best and I would have loved being here during their heyday."4th & last text was, "their coconut custard pie is as good as it gets!!!" This morning I questioned the bed and the shower and he said he slept soundly, the mattress was really comfortable and then...he went on to describe the water pressure and the size of the drops and said, " I did not want to get out of that shower!!! That's a 5 star review if I ever heard one. A jewel in the crown of local businesses who maintain that superb standard we know is possible when there's passion. These owners obviously have it. I couldn't find a website, they have no discounts (couldn't be more reasonable without one), are incredibly polite on the telephone. And let us not forget the restaurant next door! PS. My friend is a master chef/ former owner of restaurants in New York and New Mexico as well as a personal chef to some household names and if I didn't live 1,900 miles away, I'd be taking little vacations at the Powhatan Motel. Wouldn't you think that a manager would have responded to this..... Dear Manager- I wanted to drop you a line regarding a problem with our recent (6/19) stay in your adjacent motel (Room #1). First off, I would like to state that my wife and I have eaten at your Powhataan Restaurant on numerous occasions over the years. Most of those experiences were very pleasing and we have always looked for reasons to bring us back into the area to dine there. On this occasion, we had the need for a motel/hotel room and I was willing to try your adjacent motel (with - I must admit a reluctant spouse). Good feedback on Yelp gave us both confidence that we would have a positive experience. We checked in on Friday, June 19th around 3:00 P.M. As we headed for the door at the motel, a lady under the carport (assumed this was probably the maid) had a strange quizzed look on her face and asked if we had checked in. I noted that we had checked in and proceeded on into the room. The room seemed clean, however, things like the bathroom floor and bathtub mat did make us wonder. That evening when we returned to our room around 11:00 P.M., my wife got ready for bed and turned down her blanket to find black hairs on her pillow and her sheet. I then checked my side of the bed and found similar hairs. Though repulsed, it was late and we thought we would make the best of it and report it in the morning. After finding the initial hairs, I began looking further and pulled down one of the levels of bed spread to find SEVERAL additional hairs. It looked almost as though someone had received a haircut in bed. Needless to say, I did not want to alarm my wife any more as she was already in bed and under some of the layers of cover. It is very evident that someone had been using/sleeping in that bed and probably more than once since the last REAL cleaning. I suspect that by the look on the maid's face she had some idea the bed was not clean. Rather than stop us and do the right thing she permitted us to go on in and end up sleeping on the same sheets and under the same covers that had been used previously. I have years of customer service and sales experience and my wife is a professor at St. Louis University. This was our worst motel/hotel experience. There is NO EXCUSE for the bedding being full of another person's hair. I did report this to the young waitress as I checked out and she said she would discuss the matter with the maid. I've stayed at several motels and this is by far the best one yet. The beds were extremely comfortable, the restaurant was outstanding, and the service was beyond my expectations for such a small place. I would definitely refer this to anyone passing thru the Pocahontas, IL area. read more
