Our grown children with their own families (our grandkids) rent spots during holidays and love coming back. The park is very clean. The crew cleans up after a storm the moment it is safe. The bathrooms and bath houses are always clean and free of trash. The new owners (they took over 5 years ago) are very attentive to our needs such as firewood, propane, etc. You always see them riding around the park waving and stopping to chat with campers. There is 3 playgrounds, a mini golf course, outdoor pool, game room with snacks and arcade games for the kids. We love this place! Such friendly folks throughout the resort. #Will.is.a.saint! We were at Hickory Shores for a day in 2016 and it was HORRIBLE! Young kids swerving up and down…read morethe roads on golf carts and gators, people yelling at all hours, and so many drunken parties that we didn't stay. Fast forward to 2019 when we were looking for a place on Carlyle Lake. Someone mentioned Hickory Shores and we immediately said no thanks. But we drove by and saw big changes. A gate had been installed and we were lucky enough to meet the new owner. She took us on a tour of the campground and by the end of the visit, we were begging to put our camper there. We are now in our fourth year of annual lease at Hickory Shores and now it's a place that EVERYONE is trying to get into. The troublemakers were moved out when the new owners came in and it's more like a family now. The pool is great, the campground get-togethers are so much fun, and we enjoy every minute we spend here.

We took the Skytour up to the winery which was really fun and a unique way to get to the winery. It was super cold outside, so I was glad to see they had a closed in gondola for us to sit in instead of the open seat ( I would have frozen). Once we got up to the top, we were able to walk into the winery pretty quickly and since it was not too busy, we sat at a table and our server/bartender came over to check in on us and provided some menus for us to look over. We opted for some wine flights and we ordered a spin dip and a charcuterie board for the table. The wine flights were all tasty. The bartender selected 5 samples of dry, sweet and semi sweet wines for us to try. I liked how she gave us some local wines and some non local wines. It was a good mix. Sitting at the table was really relaxing and we enjoyed the view so much. I can see this spot being so amazing in the spring/summer and cannot wait to go back.

The bedrooms would an adequately sized! The master had a whirlpool tub but that whirlpool tub was not very big. We actually did not use it. The toilet area in the master was rather small. But let me tell you about the bed..... it was so incredibly comfortable! The other bedroom had a smaller be and a bigger bathroom with an actual shower/bath combo. We all showered in there. The couch was a pull out. The suite was able to sleep 6, but we only had 3 people. Regarding the pool..... it was great! The first day we went it was pretty cold so we didn't stay long. The second time we went was better! We played basket ball, putt putt, air hockey, ping pong, and billiards. The best part was that we reserved the private movie theater room on the rainiest day! We had such a great time and watched 2 movies back that day! The staff was thorough, helpful and kind! It was overall a great stay!

I am very happy I chose this family run resort for my weekend fishing jaunt. Rich (a Vietnam era…read morenavy vet) and his wife Mary run this resort with help from their 4 young adult children. The rooms are a nice size, clean, and the beds are comfortable. There is plenty of space for your car and boat/trailer. There is a connivence/bait store on site with everything from fresh donuts and coffee, to fishing gear, to breakfast cereal, to feisty minnows. Rich is very knowledgable about fishing and boating on Lake Shelbyville. Rich and Mary are also quick with recommendations on local restaurants. Although I recommend the biscuits and gravy or omelettes prepared by Rich every morning. The resort is just a couple hundred yards from the lake. I had a great stay here and will definitely be back.

After doing some googling, I came across Makanda Inn, in Makanda, Illinois. The website was great! It gave me a lot of insight to the lodge and the whole area of the Shawnee National Forest! This lodge is completely eco friendly. I was looking for a place to celebrate mine and my partners' 3 year anniversary! The drive down is quite long but soo worth it! The accommodations and our room in the lodge itself was lovely! So clean and spacious. It has a stone shower floor with a large shower head. The carpet in the room is so plush and cozy. We loved everything about the Inn. The Innkeepers - Shawna and Greg were so nice and accommodating. They have a cute little bar and a beautiful outside area with a fire going at night. I do understand fire concerns, but an outdoor grill somewhere on the grounds would be awesome. We will definitely visit again, and hope to post a five star review.

Andres Catering & Events hosts all types of parties here including weddings- where I had mine! The room for events is so open & beautiful over looking the Mississippi River. You can also go to their clubhouse & grab a bite to eat or drink on an average day, which I recommend because their patio is beautiful!
