    nice little pool
    Eliz N.

Had a pleasant experience here. The hotel was nicely furnished, and, more importantly, very clean. I even walked barefoot on the bathroom floor, which I almost NEVER do at hotels (ew, germs!). The staff was friendly, and checking in and out was quick and easy. The comforters on the beds were divine - spotlessly white, and puffy as clouds. Didn't swim in the pool, but it looked nice. Fitness center was small but seemed adequate (but what do I know? I don't work out). Pretty typical hotel breakfast, although a bit more extensive than I was expecting. They had a waffle maker! At any rate, I would have given this place five stars, except for one glitch: the shower head in my bathroom was broken. It wouldn't swivel, and it wouldn't change pressure settings like it was supposed to. And since my absolute favorite part about staying in a hotel is taking a long and fabulous shower, I had to dock a star. (Also the door to my bathroom wouldn't shut properly, but that didn't really matter to me because I was staying in the room by myself.) Would stay there again if ever I found myself back in Columbia, IL.

The good reviews about this hotel are true. It's a borderline resort in terms of amenities,…read morecleanliness, and staff friendliness. This is why I love the Midwest-- friendly and helpful people are everywhere here in St. Louis. The service here is awesome. Kenzie, Isabella, Brandy, and the manager Patty at the front desk were excellent to work with. The women working the free breakfast were also super friendly and working very hard. Even the cleaning staff we met were great too. The hotel is older but has been recently renovated only a few months ago. The entire hotel smells like fresh paint, and the rooms had new carpeting and furniture. Everything appeared sparkling clean and there were no obnoxious air freshener scents. The rooms have self-locking door latches, which we appreciated. The amenities were great too. A fitness room, indoor pool, a gift shop with snacks, decent free continental breakfast (lots of options such as cereal, eggs, and a waffle maker that I burned my hand on lol). The lobby was clean and large and the staff hands out fresh cookies at night. Our only issue was the heat in the room. The unit was definitely older and would not get warm at times. It would start working properly and then start blowing cold air after an hour. The maintenance man attempted to "fix" it, and they comped us $250, so I would say that it was a small issue that was handled well. We will definitely be coming back in March when we go to visit again. This hotel is so spacious, clean and well taken care of!

I then went to the tub/shower and turned on the water. This sludge came out of the faucet. I did a fast wash off as I tried to guide the sludge down the drain. Went to the front desk and showed them this picture. Gave them the room number and proceeded on our day. That evening, we returned to the room and ran the tub, which was still slow to fill with sludge, the toilet was slow to fill, and the sink had a trickle. I went to the front desk, and they switched our room. I went to the room and checked, and all the water was working, or so I thought. It's not easy to move rooms, but it's not the hotel's fault that the main broke. The new room is going along fine, but we don't have any hand towels or toilet paper. On our way out, we tell the front desk about our needs. We return to the room and note that there is no toilet paper or hand towels available. To add to the problem, the toilet would not flush. They sent up two rolls of toilet paper and one hand towel. I was told they would adjust my bill. I have yet to see a credit on my charge card. This was not our first time at this hotel. Can't say it will be our last stay. I have to see how they handle the bill.

Unfortunately there was no room upgrade as a GOLD member - they claim the place was booked for the night. The parking lot sure didn't look full early in the morning... Many will give you a bottle of water or some other perk as a elite member but nothing. The room itself was nice and in good shape. The only downside was the absolutely horrible water pressure in the shower. Is there a drought here? The breakfast at Fairfields are usually OK but this one was the most spartan ever. They didn't have at least a quarter to a third of the food offerings we have seen at other locations. Disappointing.

First there is the name which give you a hint of the vibe, an old school reimagined as a boutique hotel. The school themed decor follows through from the minute you walk in the door to your room. The designers thoughtfully left many elements of the school and incorporated them perfectly. The rooms are spacious and well thought out too. Beds are comfortable bathrooms are well lit (hard to find in hotels) and every space is exceptionally clean. I stayed on a Monday so the restaurant was not open but no worries there are a number of good restaurant choices within a 2 block walk. The only issue is a minor one that wouldn't matter if you don't work out when traveling. The workout room only has one elliptical machine, 2 treadmills and a few weights. The elliptical was a brand I was not familiar with and I wasn't able to get it going to use. The space is small but large enough to add a bike or another elliptical. I would love to find more hotels like this when traveling for work, it would make it more fun. I would definately stay here if I come through again. I can see where this would be a fun place to host an event.

The Fleur-de-Lys is the epitome of a luxurious getaway. Whether it is the quaintly appointed guest…read morerooms or the delightful library and parlor, each area of this former residence is unique and meticulously maintained. While it is not likely the norm, the owners, Mark & Leslie, met us at the front door, quite literally inviting us into their establishment. It was simply the most welcoming manner in which to be introduced to this treasure and Leslie quickly engaged us with the history of the home and how she and Mark had recently become the owners. We chose this destination based upon the significance of the Fleur-de-lis to my love, a native New Orleanian. Given St. Louis' rich French heritage, the mansion was originally outfitted with four chimneys that feature the fleur-de-lis design and the pattern is repeated throughout the home. While we enjoyed a quiet morning coffee in the back of the property, a lovely shaded patio area, she noticed how many places the symbol was present. She actually made mention to Mark & Leslie that they could make an activity out of counting/finding all of the fleur-de-lis around the home. What a fun idea! We were fortunate enough to book the Tower Grove Park room, a spacious room fitted with a king-size bed and a two-person jacuzzi tub. There is even a 'fainting couch' for that extra French touch! The bed was amazingly comfortable and the decor and accoutrements were exceptional, right down to the pocket doors and writing desk. But a B&B is set apart by the fare served in the morning, and this is where Mark, a chef by trade, and Leslie, a self-taught baker, knock it out of the park. That morning's menu included a fruit starter, fresh juice, Leslie's home-baked sourdough toast and home-baked English muffins, and Mark's egg and sausage soufflés with country potatoes. The entire breakfast had us completely over the moon! We felt so at home that we wanted to clear our own place - so we did! The rates are competitive and well worth every moment spent here. There is parking behind the property, as well as across from the property, and each guest is allowed a unique security code so as to gain entry while you are enjoying your stay. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed this getaway, and Mark, Leslie, & assistant Sammy made us feel like family from the moment we crossed the threshold. We'll be back - and you should give Fleur-de-Lys a try!
