Overall, we had a very nice stay here at The Preston House and Hotel. While the rooms are true to the photos, it somehow feels a little different once inside. The room was missing a few key details, such as a place to hang the hand towels in the bathroom once you used them. There was also no pen and paper like you would typically find in a room. I like to use these to leave notes with a daily tip for the cleaning staff. But there were some nice details too. For example, the rugs on either side of the bed were flush. And I liked that the toilet had a door that closed it off from the rest of the bathroom. They provide plush terry robes and slippers, but upon request. Be sure to ask for them when you check in! The king size bed was very comfortable. The single chair in the room, however, was not. It sits under a reading lamp but it's neither large nor soft enough to really settle into. There's also no table next to it, where typically I would set down my cup of coffee or glass of wine and perhaps my phone as I read. The staff were friendly and accommodating. There was also a complimentary continental breakfast each morning but it ends pretty early, at 9:30 AM. That's fine when you're traveling for business, but not so much when on a relaxing vacation when you may want to sleep in just a bit longer. Because of Covid, all the pastries were individually wrapped, and the fruit came in individual containers.

Went second time, was impressed as first time with great unique food & service- Bessy ( was amazing) she remembered what cocktail i had month ago ( i forgot & was thinking different one)/ grilled octopus- out of this world, who knew tuna & strawberries- can be best together- try it! They had fresh truffles special - which was very reasonable $15 for 3 oz ( plenty for a pasta dish).

Are you kidding me!? Risotto cacio e pepe. I added steak to sub mushrooms. (I'm allergic to mushrooms). This was a FULL portion!? They charged an extra $18 for steak, making it an almost $50 meal. Three discs of unseasoned steak! I make cacio e pepe all the time and this was completely tasteless. My husband has been dying to try the chicken parm sandwich... And then he finds pickles on it... Who puts pickles on a chicken parm!? Not enough sauce, either. Don't bother. Completely disappointed. We've been waiting to try this place for a long time and we tried it out for a special occasion today. This was a completely overpriced "meal". Money wasted. No thanks, preston house.

EXTREAMLY CLEAN HOTEL!!!!!!!!!!! This is by far the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a variety of 5 star hotels (this is a 4 star hotel). The front desk staff is awesome. Very modern, very beautiful and again I can't stress how clean the hotel is. The bathrooms are very pleasing to the eye. Will certainly be staying again! Only annoyance is due to the volume of people in the off season , in room dining is not offered every day. I would of liked to try that. I was not able to eat at the restaurant during my stay (due to being closed on a Tuesday). But seriously great hotel overall!

A lovely and sophisticated restaurant with delicious food. The house setting was quaint. As a foodie, felt like it was NYC quality (as were the prices). We had the strip steak and flounder, salad and Brussel sprouts. Also had fried oysters. Good but there was. A shell in one of them, so that was a mishap. Dessert was beignets with raspberry sauce. Dough was a bit heavy but still good.

Really disappointed that I had to make this review but it had to be done. I have been wanting to come here for about a year and actively hyping it up since then. Finally I decided to try it yesterday and damn, what a disappointment . Came for lunch around two with a friend and it was empty only a few tables with people. The brunch/ lunch menu was decent but not much spoke to us and it was also considerably pricy. I ordered the salmon and my friend got a burger. The food comes out and mine seemed fine although the portion was equivalent to a tapas for $34 I was not thrilled. My friends burger which she asked for to be medium rare came out well done, she hesitated at first but sent it back. When the burger came back my friend cut into it and it was cooked at first sight but then after a closer inspection we realized it was still raw inside- actually cool to the touch which is unacceptable. Naturally we had to send it back or risk a case of e-coli. At that point I was done eating so my friend decided not to order anything else. When the check came the burger was removed but frustratingly enough charged $4 for seltzer which pisses me off honestly. I'm not cheap but give me a break after that shit show the entire bill should have been comped and the manager should have come out to apologize. The waitress was very nice as this is not her fault but I'm definitely not going back here. Also market price on the lobster roll was $52 sorry that is robbery I paid $38 at Duryea's in the middle of July.

    Fisherman's pot! To die for!

They sent compliments on the hotel as treats, which was very thoughtful. Since I also had to work during the trip, it was nice to have access to the free printing and seating area downstairs. I personally prefer to have breakfast included in my accommodations. The breakfast buffet had a nice spread. Fresh fruit, assorted pastries, eggs, sausage, and much more.

My siblings and I are planning to gather in Lordship Township, which is part of Stratford,…read moreConnecticut, to celebrate my sister's birthday in January 2025. Our family has gathered here for about 30 years, for holiday dinners at our mom's house, which is in Lordship Township, right on Long Island Sound. For all of those years, those of us who traveled from a distance would stay at Marnick's, a locally owned hotel that's right on the beach near our mom's house. Our mom passed a few years ago and I hadn't returned to Lordship Township since then. On a whim, browsing online for hotels in the area, I learned about The Surfside Hotel. I learned that Marnick's had closed and that a while later Surfside emerged, sporting a whole new vibe. Prior to committing to recommending a sibling gathering there, I spent the night last week at Surfside. I'm happy to report that the upgrade is impressive. While the rooms now cost more than they did when Marnick's owned the place, the prices are well within reason for the area. I took an Amtrak from D.C. (about 6 hours), paid about $12 for an Uber/Lyft from the train station, and arrived to meet Iona at the hotel's front desk. She took my information and offered that she'd been there for about 2 years and the present owners have been there for about six years. All the features of the hotel appeared to be solidly restored and improved upon. I had a second-story room (21) with a balcony looking out to the Sound. There was a complimentary coffee bar with self-serve coffee, tea, hot chocolate, fruit, and snack bars. There's a beach-reading library, so I contributed my copy of Rachel Kushner's recent novel, "Creation Lake," which I finished reading on the train ride from DC. There were no downsides. There's a decent efficient fitness center that includes a Peloton and free weights. There's a map of the area suggesting pleasant walks along the seawall, Russian Beach, the Prospect Light House, and Long Beach Gatehouse. There are paths taking hikes of two miles, 3.6 miles, and five miles, and a suggestion for a longer bike ride. The main reason for this visit was to see whether the siblings would be able to stay on site for meals. There's a well-populated bar and restaurant attached to the hotel called The Little Pub (see my Yelp review.) There's also a neighborhood Italian restaurant and bar half a block away. There's a deli and an adjacent pizza parlor three blocks away, where I picked up a single slice of pizza and a portion of carrot cake. The Lordship Corner Market is right next to the pizzeria, and has sandwiches, newspapers, and sundries for days at the beach. For those with cars, I can recommend the Cricket Car Hop, a mile or two inland, for great hot dogs, burgers & fries (it was a favorite of my mom's, and we went there just about every time I visited, but I wasn't in town long enough this time to visit). Things to keep in mind: Surfside is a small business, not part of any chain. Iona needed to know when I was likely to arrive, to be sure someone was available for check in. No one was at the front desk when I checked out (but I received a check-out acknowledgement shortly after 9 a.m. the day I checked out). I believe pets are welcome (I saw a service dog there as I was leaving in the morning). There are no elevators, and my room was on the second floor. The hotel is still using single-use plastics for the shower, and the tub lacked handholds. But the vibe is good . . . we get the aloha and mahalo greetings, suggesting Hawaiʻi roots. The innkeepers report that "Boy knows nothing about running a hotel, but restaurant comes with a hotel attached so it's all or nothing. Boy must convince Girl it's a good idea. Girl is not impressed. Boy breaks into song. Girl is impressed and says YES! Restaurant and hotel are redone, there is singing and dancing, and everyone is happy." True Romance! Mahalo

The staff behind the desk not only helped me make sure that everything would be ready for us before our stay, but were very kind and accommodating to our requests during the trip. Rooms are nice for the most part, but oddly lacking in the overhead lighting they provide, so hopefully anything you need to get ready for doesn't require too much illumination. Otherwise the rooms are comfortable, albeit a bit on the smaller side but large enough for a short stay. Parking is decent in the attached lot, but getting out can be a little rough since it's right along a main road. Additionally, it's within earshot of the racetrack, which can be quite noisy during the day, but was no issue by the time we got back at night. Breakfast is also served in the mornings and they offer a good variety and decent quality, but nothing to write home to mom about, but I've certainly had worse too. Overall, I'd be glad to stay here again if I find myself needing a night or two out east.
