When I was many years younger, the only popcorn store I was familiar with was Karmelkorn, and their caramel popcorn had a medium brown glaze. I could pass it up any day, but if the people I was with insisted on stopping in, I would get some cheesy popcorn instead. Now, the closest popcorn store to home is Laura's Gourmet Popcorn. The caramel popcorn from Laura's red wagon in the Shops of Grand Avenue was first offered to me by my husband, who I blame for making me aware that this treat exists. The thick coating is a light brown color and to me it's almost a toffee-like flavor. In any case, it's delicious, and pretty hard for me to say no to. Sometimes Laura's will also sell popcorn at the Westown Farmers' Market.

Pop's has some of the largest varieties of kettle corn flavors I have ever seen, but most importantly they have nailed the essentials. From caramel, to yellow cheddar, to OG sweet and salty, and a mix of the three, the flavors are outstanding. My daughter can't get enough of the yellow cheddar, which is coated thick with cheese. She loved the White Chocolate and Maple Bourbon flavors, which I was glad to hear. However the price was pretty high given the amount of popcorn that you get and the location isn't nearly as convenient for me as Goody Gourmet, which tends to have better prices as well. Service was pleasant if a bit slow. There wasn't anyone in there and I knew what I wanted right away but it took a good 15 minutes to fulfill my order due to a "labeling issue in the back." I liked the look of the place, from the art to the games on the tables and it would be a fun place to hang out for a bit though the food menu outside of the popcorn and spring rolls is a bit limiting for me, making it a bit unlikely for me to come and stay for a while.

While I was there, they had dark chocolate and milk chocolate. I got the dark chocolate and my sister had the milk chocolate. The chocolate melts perfectly, the marshmallows pop up out of the shell. It is the perfect chocolately hot chocolate. They also have so many other fun treats to get. We also got chocolate covered cherries. The store associate took so much care in packaging our items, I was humorously reminded of the scene in Love Actually when Alan Rickman's character is buying the necklace for his assistant and not his wife. On my first visit, I ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken sandwich, which comes with fresh cut fries, as do their other sandwiches. I would likely ask for the sauce on the side or skip it next time. The fries are great!. Well seasoned and cooked in oil that hasn't been reused too many times, which leads to dark colored and bitter flavored fresh cut fries. I liked the mac-n-cheese, which I found to be on the creamy side. A lot of places don't balance the thickening agent they use, leaving a gritty texture in their mac-n-cheese - not the case here. The wings were some of the best tasting I've had in town. Their finished on the grill and have a little kick to them. The cheese curds were also some of the best I've had in town. The were lightly battered, and I thought the batter was perfectly seasoned! I thought the side of ranch was also tasty and the serving of cheese curds provided a great value. Finally, the cod fish fry is beer-battered and also very good. I very rarely order a beer-battered cod fry because the temperature of the oil needs to be just right to prevent the batter from falling apart, and often the fish is oily when served, and maybe a little gray and slimy inside. This fish was white and flaky and the batter was appropriately seasoned. The truck just came on the scene the middle of this summer. I'm not sure how long they'll be out, but watch for them downtown and at events. They use fresh and locally sourced ingredients, and their food is rock solid! I hope to try their butter burger and gumbo soon.

Love me some popcorn…read more This wagon reminds me of trips to the zoo and filling up on popcorn. You can't beat the real butter the old lady pours over the white kernels. The bag is overfilled and then dropped into a plastic bag so that you don't have a buttery mess. Get a small bag, if you fill up on anything bigger it may kill you.

We bought ice cream for our kids and grandkids and there was an error made with one of the cones…read more They gave us a flavor we did not order and then charged us $2.00 for the correct flavor. They just put it on top of the flavor we did not want. We asked for a cup to scoop out the original flavor they gave us and they charged us .25 for the cup. After spending more than $25.00 on ice cream, to correct the error with the flavor we wanted would not have cost much. Isn't the customer always right. Not good business practice.
