The counselors were fun and supportive. The activities were engaging. Thomas loved the food. This year he encouraged a friend from school to join him. That boy had a great time, and they both made new friends too. Thomas came back with greater confidence and displaying more independence too. We can't wait to get back the pictures he took with his disposable camera! What I love best, besides hearing the stories about him getting up early to care for the horses that he once found intimidating, was the call we received from Dawn mid-week. We weren't worried. We've had great experiences at Cloverleaf. We know the ratios of campers to counselors allows for attentive care. Still, the mid-week phone call telling us how his week was going just reinforced how much the staff really cares. For this reason, Cloverleaf will continue to be a Cremidis family tradition for many years to come. Next year, little brother will be old enough for residential camp and he's already making plans for how he'll spend his time.

I didn't feel comfortable with this arrangement and am glad I didn't sign my daughter up for sleep-away camp. She enjoyed the day camp but the staff seemed more concerned with protecting themselves rather than allowing parents to protect their children. I was expecting some nice local horse riding girls to mentor her and instead had to leave her with boys who wouldn't tell me their names. She won't be back.

I have been around the summer camps and have seen that campers get to ride a lot and spend a lot of time learning the ins and outs of proper horsemanship. There are some other fun activities sprinkled in, but the main priority is for campers to have lots of time with the horses! The bottom line is that MWS is a great barn for riders of all skill level, experience, and goals. You will be treated as an individual rather than as an "experience level" (beginning, intermediate, etc). Plus there is TONS of amazing pasture space, high quality stalls, and a beautiful location only just outside of the hustle and bustle of Santa Rosa!!

I don't have my own horse, and I'm basically a beginning rider. She paired me with her horse, Bubbles, who is lovely. Crysta asked what I'd like to work on and we went from there. We focused a lot on getting in tune with my body and the horses movements - it really made a difference over just a few lessons. She was patient, positive, and explained why we need to do what we do as riders. We also worked on basic horsemanship and a little groundwork, which was new to me and so fun. After picking everyone up, our group went to Saddleback Cellars. This was a great vineyard to visit - we were seated right next to the beautiful fields and enjoyed sipping our wine while walking right next to the growing grapes! The lady working there was friendly and it was really nice learning more about the history of their vineyard. They've won several awards, and we could see why! These were some delicious wines. Next, we made our way to Merryvale Vineyards where we also stopped to have our boxed lunch. Their inside space was gorgeous and it was interesting learning about the barrel aging process. We enjoyed our tasting here too! We finished up at Backstage which was one of the highlights of the day - the wines we tasted were excellent and the seating area is just gorgeous, overlooking their beautiful vineyards. We decided to buy a bottle here and enjoyed it later during our trip. Platypus was a great choice for our tour - when I was searching for tour options online it was affordable for our group, had great reviews and I can see why! Army was excellent, I loved that they picked you up and dropped you back to your hotel, and the reduced rates for the tastings helped a lot too! On my next Napa visit I would definitely book with them again.

We've done a total of five Platypus Wine Tours -- four in Napa and one in Sonoma -- and have had a…read moregood experience overall. Some tours have been truly exceptional, while others have been more average. The guides have all been good, although some definitely stand out more than others. Ultimately, though, the biggest factor in the experience is the wineries you visit and how generous they are with their pours. You'll quickly learn what a "revisit" means on these tours. Most wineries are happy to pour you another taste, but some are surprisingly stingy and seem more interested in selling bottles than providing a memorable tasting experience. Some will happily pour their most expensive wines, while others will talk about those wines without actually letting you taste them unless you're willing to buy a bottle. Honestly, that's disappointing, especially when you're there to experience and learn about the wine. That said, Platypus itself is fantastic. The shuttles are spacious, the groups are small, and the overall experience is a great way to explore wine country without the hassle of driving between wineries. My biggest recommendation: tell your tour guide upfront that you want fun, welcoming wineries that are generous with their pours. The right winery selection can take an already good tour and make it an outstanding one. We'll absolutely consider booking with Platypus again!
