It is comforting to know that she was so well cared for her last year of life. Our Belmont experience started off in such a positive way. The team was outstanding about helping us get mother settled from the West Coast in an emergency situation. They even loaned us furniture for her apartment until her things arrived. Once we were at Belmont memory care, the considerations continued. Mother had unique California natural food preferences and the Kitchen team was super about filling her requests for salads and salmon and vegetables. She loved the food! We cannot thank the memory care team enough. Our mother lived most of her life independently and alone. The memory care activities every day kept her involved. We saw her thrive having people around her and she lost much of her previous fear/anxiety. My heart smiles when I remember the loving hugs that the memory care assistants gave mom. She'd hold her arms up and they would hug her and tell her she was loved. It was beautiful. Her health situation changed as she became prone to falls and broke her hip. The Belmont nursing staff knew how to handle the situation. Many facilities do not want someone who has both dementia and significant physical limitations. The Belmont team and the nursing staff welcomed her back from rehab with open arms. We will always be grateful to them. Speaking medically, the Belmonts in-house doctor - Dr. Randy Villanueva - was the perfect doctor for us. His medical skills, experience with seniors and his compassionate heart are an amazing combination. He is a gift to his patients and their families. We miss our mother immensely, but it is comforting to know that Belmont made her last year the best it could be. The gift of care and kindness was a priceless one.

First, I would like to say, my 1 star rating does not include the therapy team. Great job Leo. But any others were garbage. Lack of care, I correct medicine being given due to records not updated. I had to take life-saving heart transplant medicine to the facility because they did not have any at the facility. I had to constantly clean my husband because of a lack of staff. There were days, he laid in his own waste for hours. The food was distasteful at best. No communication from the front office, especially social services. He is no longer there, Thank God. There are so many things wrong at this place.

Took weeks and multiple requests for the facility paperwork to get mom set up with the facility physician. Covid outbreak there which developed into pneumonia and hospitalization for mom. In the beginning of her symptoms I asked a nurse if I should bring flu medication and was told no, all medications are ordered and handled by the facility. But no evidence of her getting flu medication before being hospitalized. Weekly mixup with residents clothing. Mom's bathroom was not properly cleaned, and I found her bed without sheets on several occasions. When I would report it to the care staff I was told it was a housekeeping problem. Took months, multiple facility staff requests, and regional office involvement to get the move-in promotion refund that sales offered. Most of the staff were friendly. Office staff would avoid taking calls or responding to email. I fully regret the Avaline experience.

It only took a month for my family to realize that Carriage Court was not going to provide the level of support and kindness that should accompany a memory care facility. The staff was always rude...every time I visited, they would tell me how "bad" my grandma behaved. The area designated for memory care patients was dark and shut off from everything around it, much like a psych ward...I would come in and my grandma would be pacing up and down the only hall in the entire facility. Activities were few and far between; staff seemed to be more interested in their phones than interacting with the people they are there to help. She was rarely showered and dressed appropriately. Personal items were not cared for (for example, we got my grandmother a life-like (and fairly expensive!) cat toy because it gives her a sense of calm. One day my family and I came in and the staff had actually taken the cat out of her room and was playing around with it --quite roughly-- with the other residents while my grandma was hiding in her room). Her new glasses went missing, and staff acted like it was a major hassle for them to look for them (needless to say, the glasses were never located). We could not have been more disappointed with Carriage Court and are very thankful to have found a much more suitable home for my wonderful grandmother elsewhere. The Terrace, the assisted living section, has gone downhill within the last couple of years. The…read morefood is horrific, I am not sure my dog would eat it. It had no flavor, seasoning or visual appeal. Elementary school cafeteria food is more appealing and better tasting. For one of the most expensive assisted living communities in Memphis one would think they could afford a decent chef or at least get a school cafeteria line cook to get a more quality end product. They advertise and highly tout while visiting their property that they provide support to residents in this section. This is not the case. They do not ensure residents get to their doctors appointments when the Terrace requires residents must use Terrace transportation. Every department; transportation, nursing and aids all blame the other departments for this failure. It is of upmost importance that these residents make their doctors appointments since most are in the Terrace for medical reasons. Senior management is responsible for this facility and should take responsibility, which they don't. They also "put the blame" on the employees. This is a sure sign of a very weak management team. People DIE when they don't make doctors appointments! It is such an easy fix but obviously no one at this facility cares about the residents for which they are responsible but they sure "sell" their concern for each resident when you are touring the facility. BEWARE when searching for a retirement facility for your loved ones!! Trezevant talks a wonderful game but strikes out on delivery of care and product.
