It is comforting to know that she was so well cared for her last year of life. Our Belmont experience started off in such a positive way. The team was outstanding about helping us get mother settled from the West Coast in an emergency situation. They even loaned us furniture for her apartment until her things arrived. Once we were at Belmont memory care, the considerations continued. Mother had unique California natural food preferences and the Kitchen team was super about filling her requests for salads and salmon and vegetables. She loved the food! We cannot thank the memory care team enough. Our mother lived most of her life independently and alone. The memory care activities every day kept her involved. We saw her thrive having people around her and she lost much of her previous fear/anxiety. My heart smiles when I remember the loving hugs that the memory care assistants gave mom. She'd hold her arms up and they would hug her and tell her she was loved. It was beautiful. Her health situation changed as she became prone to falls and broke her hip. The Belmont nursing staff knew how to handle the situation. Many facilities do not want someone who has both dementia and significant physical limitations. The Belmont team and the nursing staff welcomed her back from rehab with open arms. We will always be grateful to them. Speaking medically, the Belmonts in-house doctor - Dr. Randy Villanueva - was the perfect doctor for us. His medical skills, experience with seniors and his compassionate heart are an amazing combination. He is a gift to his patients and their families. We miss our mother immensely, but it is comforting to know that Belmont made her last year the best it could be. The gift of care and kindness was a priceless one.

The facility was clean. I do think it is overpriced based on the amenities. I have two concerns which is why I rated the facility overall 1/5 stars. 1. The food was not good. Often there were only cold lunchmeat sandwiches and they seemed to run out of food at times. He was paying for the food and it was less than mediocre. 2. When it was time for him to move out, he gave the expected notice. Because he was moving out before the end of a month, I spoke with them about reimbursing him for the last days of the month. Over the course of TWO months, I spoke with the interim director at least 4 times regarding his reimbursement and left countless voicemails. He kept promising to call me back and NEVER did. I even called the parent company, which was Tarantino at the time. I left 3 voicemails requesting to be contacted regarding the reimbursement. No one has ever contacted me. I feel like they robbed him.

I've heard and read various horror stories about this and other facilities and I have this to say, I'm an advocate for my mom. It's near my job and home, so I'm up there daily speaking with the Social worker, business manager, the staff in the kitchen, the staff in rehab, the nurses and the cnas who care for her. We have open communication, we discuss her eating habits, her physical therapy, and everything else concerning her well being. It has gotten to the point everyone up there knows me, and I've built a rapport with them. If there are any issues, they call me immediately. I'd say that anywhere you put your loved one, being active in their care and questioning anything you aren't sure of makes the difference. I'd recommend it to others.

I visit on Sunday Aug 3rd and as I enter the building you could smell the urine in the hallway. As I enter the 3rd hall wing the smell was absolutely unbearable and as I enter my mother room that's where the smell was coming from. Her roommate smell like she haven't been changed in a week nor her bed. I went to the nurse station and ask why was my mother being subjected to the smell or urine at the rate that it was burning my throat so think of a 93 year old bed rider person. I was told that the other roommate refused to be change so there was nothing they could do. I called today (Monday morning) and courses no one is there that can give me a answer. It's 1pm and still no answer so I am going to call the Memphis health department and the local news station to see if they can help me get some answers. I see they are under the nursing home review for poor service so I will get in touch with them also.

It only took a month for my family to realize that Carriage Court was not going to provide the level of support and kindness that should accompany a memory care facility. The staff was always rude...every time I visited, they would tell me how "bad" my grandma behaved. The area designated for memory care patients was dark and shut off from everything around it, much like a psych ward...I would come in and my grandma would be pacing up and down the only hall in the entire facility. Activities were few and far between; staff seemed to be more interested in their phones than interacting with the people they are there to help. She was rarely showered and dressed appropriately. Personal items were not cared for (for example, we got my grandmother a life-like (and fairly expensive!) cat toy because it gives her a sense of calm. One day my family and I came in and the staff had actually taken the cat out of her room and was playing around with it --quite roughly-- with the other residents while my grandma was hiding in her room). Her new glasses went missing, and staff acted like it was a major hassle for them to look for them (needless to say, the glasses were never located). We could not have been more disappointed with Carriage Court and are very thankful to have found a much more suitable home for my wonderful grandmother elsewhere. (Note: This review was posted on their Facebook page, only to be deleted within 12 hours. I suppose they only want comments that make them look far better than the rating they deserve.)

The management team is not responsive or if they do respond, there is NO follow up. I have a relative here and it has been a CONSTANT headache for the entire time. He doesn't want to move or we would be out. They don't abuse him or mistreat him (I would be out and calling the authorities) but customer service sucks and management is a joke. EVERYTIME I am here there is a problem. Do yourself a favor and do not place anyone you know here.

The Terrace, the assisted living section, has gone downhill within the last couple of years. The…read morefood is horrific, I am not sure my dog would eat it. It had no flavor, seasoning or visual appeal. Elementary school cafeteria food is more appealing and better tasting. For one of the most expensive assisted living communities in Memphis one would think they could afford a decent chef or at least get a school cafeteria line cook to get a more quality end product. They advertise and highly tout while visiting their property that they provide support to residents in this section. This is not the case. They do not ensure residents get to their doctors appointments when the Terrace requires residents must use Terrace transportation. Every department; transportation, nursing and aids all blame the other departments for this failure. It is of upmost importance that these residents make their doctors appointments since most are in the Terrace for medical reasons. Senior management is responsible for this facility and should take responsibility, which they don't. They also "put the blame" on the employees. This is a sure sign of a very weak management team. People DIE when they don't make doctors appointments! It is such an easy fix but obviously no one at this facility cares about the residents for which they are responsible but they sure "sell" their concern for each resident when you are touring the facility. BEWARE when searching for a retirement facility for your loved ones!! Trezevant talks a wonderful game but strikes out on delivery of care and product.

My Grandmother has been going here for day care for 6 months and then has lived here for another 6…read moremonths and I can't say enough about the wonderful care she has received. They keep her busy all day! She is always dressed, clean and happy! You really can't ask for more than that. One of their staff members in particular is so amazing... She is always loving on the residents and you just know she treats them like she would her Grandparents. All the staff are amazing, Mrs Tamika is just extra amazing!

I was so impressed at how kind the staff was and how patient they were, never getting upset or unkind and talking to her by name. Many times when I was there they were making treats in the kitchen for residents and guests to share. No memory care place is perfect but Apple Grove is close. A great solution for your loved one.
