Recently, my hybrid (heat pump) hot water heater failed abruptly. According to the Econet app,…read moreeither the elements were not working, or there was an issue with relays on the control board. The unit is less than 2 years old, and between wiring the required electric circuit, and installing it, I had spent about $6,000. The units come with long parts warranties, but labor is limited to 12 months. I actually ran into the same issue a year ago, and it took multiple visits by multiple plumbers before it was repaired by replacing the control board. I called the plumber that installed the unit, and I was told that labor for repairs was no longer covered by warranty, and this plumber no longer serviced these units. I was given the names of two experienced plumbers that could help me. Mark Plummer (really his name!) from Pro Hot Water & Plumbing Service, and another person. I looked at Mark's solid reviews, and decided to give him a call. I am very glad I did. Mark is a third generation plumber, who worked as a factory service representative for various major water heater companies, prior to starting his own firm. He knows the products very well, and he also knows the issues that often arise when less experienced plumbers install equipment, or when wear and tear take its toll on plumbing. He was easy to contact, and immediately asked me to provide some photos, so he would know what unit I have, and what he might need. We set up an appointment, and he arrived promptly. He knew that even when an app indicates that heating elements may be failing, this might not be true, and he knew how to immediately test the elements. I then recalled that when we had this problem last year, the plumbers that came out immediately ordered replacement elements. We waited a number of days for the parts to arrive (with no hot water), and then when they installed the new elements, they concluded that this was not the problem, so they ordered a new control board. We waited additional time without hot water, until that the replacement board arrived. We had been glad this did resolve the problem, but it had taken a long time. Mark got the replacement board request out immediately, and we had it within a couple of days. I called Mark on Friday evening when we got the board, and he said he would be out at 9 the following morning to install it for us. This was done efficiently and properly, and meanwhile he educated me on our options going forward, given how troublesome this unit has been. In addition to installing the replacement part, Mark carefully examined all of our hot water plumbing, and determined that we had another issue that was impacting how well we got our hot water .. a regulator valve which was no longer controlling the flow of water leaving the tank. This enabled cold water to combine with the hot water, making our system perform much more poorly. Mark suggested replacing the valve, noting that this can be a somewhat labor-intensive repair, but it is very worthwhile. I decided to let him do this, and we planned for doing the work later in the week. When Mark did the valve replacement, things went very well. His work was very clean and professional, and it took him less time that he had expected. As an honest repairman who takes pride in his work, he immediately offered me a substantial discount on the work because it had proven easier than we expected. This really impressed me. I am hoping that we will not face another failure of the current unit in the near future, but if we do need to do a replacement, I know what we should use, and I know that Mark is the person I would want to do the work for me. He is excellent, and I would encourage you to reach out to him, for excellent service at very fair prices. You will not be disappointed.

Eddie came back to check everything and, when it became clear we needed a plumber, he personally reached out to Joe, someone he trusted, which speaks volumes to begin with, to help us get to the bottom of it!
