All of the roads but one to get to the hotel were closed for construction. This was not noted during the time of booking nor when the confirmation was done the night before. When I was finally able to get through on the one road available for local use only, I found that the only parking lot available was full with homeless people camped out on the sidewalk. Not going to drag a suitcase down the street in unsafe conditions from blocks away. Booked on Expedia.com and used credit I had there. Cancellation/refund policy stated no refunds if the reservation wasn't canceled by midnight the night before. I wasn't aware of the conditions of the roads nor neighborhood before I was in town so seems pretty unfair. Called the hotel to request a refund and can't reach anyone so will be working with Expedia on this. The hotel also seems to be rundown and not kept up, definitely not what one would expect from a Wyndham owned property. read more

Found a good deal for the night in this hotel considering its a friday. Passing thru Kamloops on my way to Langley. The place is nice. Not too big and not too small. It's located downtown Kamloops. Parking is somewhat limited, just one strip close to the hotel but they have another parking spot maybe 2 blocks away. If you are like me, just passing thru and have my luggages in the car, consider bringing them down first then park your car to the distant parking spot. I was not comfortable leaving my stuff in the car and parked far away. The staff was friendly. Checkin in and out was fast and effortless. The elevator was cramped almost only for 1-2 people. It was ok in my situation. The room was clean, and comfortable. I was on the fifth floor and can see around downtown. Didn't have to wait a long time for the elevators when going out or back to my room. There was a complimentary drink, either wine or beer, when I checked in. The bar was not full and I was told there was a hockey game playing nearby. Vancouver and Calgary game was on the big screen when I came in. Breakfast was sausage, bacon, potatoes, eggs, coffee. out of town on biz, the company put us up in the plaza hotel in kamloops. historically, its the oldest hotel in kamloops. location location location...perfectly situated in downtown kamloops, close to a lot of banks, restaurants, the biggest mall in kamloops, govt services, etc. everything you may need is in walking distance. close to TRU as well and the hwy to get you to wherever you need. bonus: there are at least 3 pizza joints right across the hotel, as well as a greek place. within the hotels bldg, there is a pub and a liquor store attached! i mean, if that doesnt get you, then i got no more words to say. lo my room was a double bed by north american standards. small closet and washroom, but ac and heater working perfectly. nice flat tv. renos were done well. free access to the ymca pool and hot tub. comes with free hot buffet bfast in the morning. water in the lobby plus fresh apples and oranges. very nice touch! staff are super friendly. will greet you every chance they get. very good corporate rates and pricing. barely any noise despite the thin walls. my only complain is that the elevator ( yes only 1 ) is a tad too tight. very very old school. only 3 people will fit, good luck if you have a check-in luggage. lol! reminds me of lifts in europe. overall i would not hesitate to stay here again! bonus: the annual santa claus parade goes right infront of the hotel nov 24. cheers!! cheers!! read more

Worst 'hotel' I've ever had the displeasure of staying in. I will never stay here again. Whether you're reading this a day after or years after this advice is still accurate. The only hope this place has in hell of getting better is if someone turned it into hell. Which wouldn't be hard seeing as there aren't fire sprinklers or easy to locate fire alarms. In the likely chance that something happened to this trash hotel I wish luck to the amazing firefighters that would have to put it out. Now for some facts. The service: poor and disinterested, you'd think they weren't getting paid. The rooms: smelly, very far from the elevator and stairs and the bed sheets WERENT EVEN CLEAN, oh and I could hear the people in the other room talking quietly through the walls. The room keys stopped working within 8 hours, I kept mine far from all devices and wallet still didn't help. I stayed there for three nights and had to have my key reset twice per day. The parking was so limited and the overflow parking was not signed so had to check with the front desk which parking spots weren't going result in a ticket. Too bad the front desk staff couldn't give me the same answer when I asked them where it was safe to park. I stayed there four nights each night worse than the next however every other hote was fully booked (I can see why). And after four nights, our room hadn't been cleaned once. Make sure you bring ear plugs as well the toilet flushes so loud that I couldn't hear MYSELF talk even when raising my voice for a whole minute. MUST READ: if you're still considering staying here because everywhere else is full, don't. Sleeping in my car would've been a comparable experience. If you value your money, time, sanity, and don't want to lose your hearing or sense of smell. Do yourself a favor and don't stay here read more

I found this hotel as we were in Merritt. A last minute decision on our way up to Banff. The hotel looks a little run down from the outside, but the inside is beautiful. To get to your room you can take the stairs, or the vintage elevator, which is super cool by the way! The room itself was small, but the beds were comfy. The bathroom was a decent size, but the shower wasn't super clean as there was still someone else's hair in it... The only part of the hotel that seems to have AC or forced air is the hallways, because our room was HOT. I turned on the fan, opened all the windows (Which don't open very much) and I still had to sleep without a blanket and woke up a sweaty mess. Upon checkout I mentioned that it was very hot in the room, and they said they have never received a complaint. Not sure if anyone else has had this experience before? Overall, the stay itself was good. I might stay here again if I ever needed to, as long as the room isn't super hot again! read more

One of the most charming hotels I've stayed in recently. Old world style, lovely staff, very clean and well appointed. I would agree the bathrooms are a bit on the smaller side but definitely adequate. The staff at the front desk was welcoming and very nice. The architecture sure beats more contemporary buildings. The price was extremely reasonable compared to other accommodations I stayed on my drive from Alaska to Washington. The restaurant has a good beer, liquor and wine selection along with some eclectic as well as traditional food options and a knowledgeable bartender. The included breakfast was served buffet style with many choices including hot as well as cold foods and a very friendly attendant. Overall I had a great experience and would not hesitate to stay here again as well as recommend it to potential travelers. read more

Background: I'm a backpacker so my review may be a bit skewed since I normally stay in hostels where A/C is a luxury. Initial booking experience: easy and straight forward. The website even gives you the option to select higher floors if available (no extra charge). Check-in experience: The front desk staff is courteous and check-in was quick. Location: Great! Center of downtown. Close to all the popular eateries. Lobby: The hotel's renovation is nice. It feels like a 3.5* - 4* hotel. Room: Found my room easily. Room is clean and comfortable. Renovation makes it so nice. No safe for your valuables though. A very minor touch: the shower curtain has a clear panel at eye level which brings light into the tub area and also that I can see the bathroom from inside the tub. Amenities: Great! Access to nearby YMCA (4 block - short side of blocks); Access to all the yoga classes at Yoga Loft (on Seymour St. Just behind the hotel. Go upstairs). The YMCA has all the things one need to get a good workout (even has a pool). It is two storeys high and opens until 10pm on some nights. Business Centre: right next to the stairs at the back of lobby. Not much privacy but, hey, it's complimentary. Complimentary breakfast: The server said they have buffet style breakfast depending on the number of guests in the hotel. I got the buffet style during my stay. They opened up Fireside Grill to serve all the guests. They served cereal, yogurt, fresh chopped fruits, eggs, sausage, hash browns and 3 kinds of toasts. Toasters are available. You get a choice of coffee, tea and juice. Value: I booked at the back to school promo rate $89/ night. Such a good deal. read more

Fantastic Boutique Hotel. I stayed here one night on the weekend (Saturday) while on business in the Okanagan and BC interior. Upon parking my car and entering the hotel, the atmosphere was most welcoming. Fireplace, warm colours and friendly reception. To my surprise, they still give you a 'real' key to your room. No key cards that will get demagnetized at the slightest breeze. The elevator is fits 2 pieces of luggage perfectly plus yourself. What I'm saying is it's small :) Something you'd find in cities in Europe. If you have to fit 2 people + luggage, hopefully it's someone you know because it will get quite cozy. Nonetheless, pretty cool. I had booked a Luxury King room which had a King Bed, decent view facing the main street, a small sitting area and of course, a bathtub with shower. Everything was clean and bath robes + slippers were waiting on the hangers. You won't find that at some 5star hotels. Also included was a mini fridge along with some additional amenities which are included in your room rate: - Full hot breakfast - Long-distance and local calls (Globally) - WiFi throughout hotel - Bottled water in-room replenished daily (did I mention FREE?!) - Access to YMCA Indoor Pool & Fitness Facilities - Access to The Yoga Loft for complimentary drop in classes - Business services and business centre access I went downstairs for dinner at the Fireside Steakhouse & Bar. Very nice and friendly staff and you get a complimentary appetizer if you order a main dish. Not bad. Parking is at an additional cost but not expensive at all. $9. Remember, you're right downtown so anything you may need is within walking distance. The funniest thing happened while I was drifting off to sleep. My bed started to shake and I wasn't even moving!. Looked around to make sure nobody else was there with me! :) This happened numerous times throughout the night. At first I thought it might be an earthquake but then quickly realized, having grown up near some train tracks, that it was indeed a train passing. Even though the tracks are quite a distance from the hotel, you feel the vibration baby! Some say the hotel is haunted. Boo! My only recommendation (and nothing terrible because I expected it) is that if you're planning on getting a good nights rest here on a weekend, perhaps try somewhere less central. You'll definitely hear party people in the streets as well as people coming and going in the halls. The room doors are not the most quiet when you close them. I'd definitely recommend this hotel. For myself, I'll stay here again any other day but Friday/Saturday. read more

A great downtown hotel with some great history! But the honeymoon suite desperately needs to be refreshed! We were upgraded to the honeymoon suite upon checking in, which was incredible! The suite offers beautiful views on either side and lots of space, the bath tub was my favourite feature! However, the vintage appeal went too far with the heavy curtains and dark structure that hung over the bed. There are far too many pictures depicting people when I think less is more in this case and I would seriously consider more landscape photos (the photo of the little girl outside 509 is just plain creepy). Making the room lighter with certain vintage pieces would make it so much more light and airy. But I do suppose it may depend on a person's taste! Check in and check out were effortless, the staff were terrific! Free breaky was delicious :) read more

This may seem a weird thing but I have a really sensitive sense of smell and this place smelled very clean and fresh. I recommend this hotel and have plans to stay again in September! read more

I really enjoyed the ambiance of this place. It was built in 1928! I love the huge picture of the hotel in the lobby - not much has changed! The inside is very nice, they have done a ton of updating and it looks great. Five bucks for parking - that kinda sucked - why should we get charged for parking when we are staying at your hotel? We got our room with a queen-sized bed for $106/night off of the Trivago website. We didnt know about that large room deposit, I believe it was $200, which would be returned in the morning after it was inspected. Maybe it was because we used the Trivago site that it didnt say anything about it. It was a shock to put up that kind of money to stay but what could we do? The room we stayed in was small but cozy. It had wifi, a large screen tv, ipad service, a nice view and a breakfast the next morning down in the pub attached to the hotel. When you stayed there you could get a percentage off your beer and wine at the liquor store just next door and you could go to the YMCA for free too - pretty cool! The bed was comfortable and air conditioning was very nice since it was a hot muggy day in Loops. We couldnt open the window and make it stay open but we didnt mind. The breakfast the next day was the typical you see - eggs, bacon, hashbrowns, make your own toast, cold cereal, tea, coffee and juice. The hashbrowns were horrible - small overcooked nuggest of what use to be potato. The eggs rubbery - typical of buffet style eggs. We were glad to be fed even though it was lack luster food. It was a nice hotel and I would go back. We didnt get to try the actual bar food but it was pretty full whenever we walked by. read more

Staff were friendly and helpful.The room we booked was for 2 people but it was very very small and so was the bathroom. Amazing hotel. We had two rooms that were joined for only about $170 which meant our kids could go to sleep early in one of the rooms. Great blackout shades on windows which we loved after not having any in our previous accommodations. Lots of TV channels, great pillows, beds, bathroom, and decor. Air conditioning worked well. Highly recommend. The free breakfast in the restaurant downstairs was awesome. Great breads, fruit, amazing yogurt, eggs, sausages, bacon, potatoes, and cereal. The coffee was excellent and they had a huge selection of juices although I didn't try any. read more

The Rocksalt Lounge that is in the Plaza is where we stopped for a couple of drinks. It was nice and casual and fancy at the same time. You can sit in the corner with a couple of friends have a couple of drinks and talk. The service was great and it was a nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed it. We stayed in a standard queen room for one night midweek on our way from Seattle to Banff. The room was well appointed, clean and comfortable with all the amenities one would expect, and charm to spare. If I had been staying more than one night, I might have upgraded to a Luxury room to get a little more space. The bathroom is teeny with a small corner shower, no bathtub. Breakfast (include) is served in the ground floor restaurant and is made to order, not buffet style. Overall I think it was a very good value, and I would stay again. read more

We stayed here for three nights. We loved it. I love the character and antique feel this place has. We stayed in a king room and it was $105 per night plus $8 per day parking. Not too bad. Hubby thought the bed was too hard, I liked it. The rooms seemed a little small, but cozy. There was no fan in the washroom. I was actually mad about the parking. But then I realized we won't have to pay for anymore parking downtown ! Love the location. In the morning there was a couple hobos outside the liquor store that's attached to the hotel. Enjoyed a lovely stay while in town for business. The heritage room was perfect for my purposes; I didn't have to pay for space I didn't need, and was quite impressed with the value I got for what I did pay. Staff were highly attentive, and the included breakfast at the hotel restaurant went far and above the standard self-serve toast/muffins/cereal spread. Only possible complaint was that the heat register made some popping sounds around 4:00 a.m. or so. It woke me up, but reminded me a little bit of the house I grew up in and added to the character of this heritage building. I have a family member at the hospital and had nothing but issues at another hotel the first night in town so went in search of another one the next day. The ICU nurse recommended The Plaza Hotel so I booked a room as the price was so reasonable! What a fantastic place. I checked in around 11:30 pm went to my room and the TV was on playing music my lights were on. There was bottled water beside the bed. Complimentary items available to me at no charge if I wished. The bed was so comfy I immediately fell fast asleep. The next morning I enjoyed a beautiful full course breakfast included in the room charge! A beautifully redone historic building with lots of charm and welcoming friendly staff!! Highly recommend this place to anyone who had to stay in Kamloops ! read more

We stayed at the Plaza Hotel unexpectedly when we were unable to return to our other hotel during the major flooding in Alberta recently. The staff at the Plaza were super helpful and accommodating, even supplying us with all the odds and ends we needed since we didn't have our baggage. The room was much nicer than we expected for a hotel in this price range. The staff in the restaurant were really nice, both at dinner and breakfast - and again, the food was better than we expected. All in all, if you are staying in Kamloops this is a really good place to stay, with a heck of a lot more character and friendliness than the usual chains. read more

The Plaza Hotel is in a charming old downtown building, complete with ancient elevator and squeaky hardwood floors. It is decorated with style alluding to the period, but not kitschy or frilly. When we told Robyn at the front desk we were honeymooners, we were immediately upgraded to a charming corner suite with a very comfortable king size bed dressed with fine linens. She warned us that the street is noisy on Saturday night, but we didn't find it to be excessively so. We thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay and recommend it as a romantic hotel. read more

Worst experience ever... I have been travelling 34 countries over the last decade staying in all kinds of hotels. Never before have I experienced such a poor customer service at all. After thirteen hours and three flights I arrived around 8pm for check in. They did not have me in their system and therefore weren't expecting me. Ok, s**t happens! The receptionist suggested to book me in as a "walk-in" which got me a little upset as I clearly had a confirmed booking at a bargain rate (the reason for losing my reservation???). After quite a while (me being persistent) and lots of phone calls going up the chain of authority they suddenly found the reservation and booked me in as stated on my confirmation. "Sorry, a glitch!" So I went to my room and was quite happy with it: small but tidy, not the best view (parking lot) but a comfy bed and a huge 40 inch flat screen, tea and coffee making facilities, a small fridge, free wifi (strong signal) and an ok bathroom (shower) made up for the bad first impression. As I intented to do some serious hiking in the area I thought I might as well stay a couple of nights extra and booked the same deal again. I told reception to make sure not to lose this reservation again and to let me stay without switching rooms in between. "No problem!" Some very nice days passed by and unfortunately the day of me checking out had arrived. When I woke up I saw my invoice lying on the floor (they slide the invoice under your door at night to make the check out process faster - a good thing one should think). The invoice stated a final amount which was nearly 200 Dollars higher (for a six night stay) than the confirmed rate I booked. I then dropped the invoice at reception telling her to "fix" it (she was on the phone) and went for breakfast. When I returned she said she could reduce the amount but it was still a lot more than the total amount stated on my original confirmation. "My boss says it is not commissionable" I told her again and again that I would not accept this. Since I work in hotel business myself for more than 13 years I do know that the hotels have to pay commission (usually 10 to 15 %) for receiving bookings through channels like Expedia, booking.com or hrs.com. The commission IS NEVER TO BE PASSED DOWN TO THE CUSTOMER on top of a final rate. Every decent manager should know that and honor that. I had the clear impression that the poor receptionist was forced to do that by the management. Out of a sudden a guy as slippery as an eel (dressed like a plumber or mechanic)appeared, always repeating the sentence "we honor your booking" (he was not management that's for sure). If you did, why are we having this conversation? As fast as he showed up he was gone again without giving me the opportunity to talk (another thing that I hate: treating the customers as if they were morons). Finally it was agreed to charge me the amount I had on paper all the time but it totally ruined my experience. When I left, the receptionists looked kind of sad and I am pretty sure that it was the management that forced them to try to rip me off (I cannot prove it though). So Mrs. Shatha Al-Reihani, I hope you do read this (since I have not seen you once in six days and was told you were not available) and I hope you do not punish your receptionists but the person who is responsible for such a policy (I do hope it is not yourself). And please do not tell me that it was a misunderstanding as my booking confirmation was at your desk and in your system ALL the time! If you want to have a hassle free time in Kamloops do yourself a favor and DO go somewhere else! read more

A quaint and clean little hotel in downtown Kamloops. We stayed one night and while the hotel itself is perfectly acceptable, I'm not sure I'll stay here again. The pay parking lot beside the hotel is not secure (not their responsibility, I understand) We had a bunch of tools covered in the back of the truck so we backed it against the wall and hoped for the best. The lobby was clean and comfortable, a short ride up in the smallest elevator I've ever encountered, our room was also clean. There's a mini coffee station, a fridge and safe. The bed was very comfortable and the staff were pleasant. The complimentary breakfast was one of the better I've come across and we left actually full and satisfied. All good things. Now for the reasons I'll probably choose to stay somewhere else next time - Our room was like a sauna. Any attempt to turn the temperature down was unsuccessful. There's a little note on the thermostat not to turn the temp below 60 degrees to prevent the pipes from freezing. We tried to sleep with the window open but unfortunately we were downtown Kamloops on a Saturday night. The drunken bar-goers might as well have been hanging out in my room with me. So we closed the window and tried to sleep with no covers. It was just intolerably hot. Also, the complimentary bathroom amenities have mint in them - of which I'm allergic. I always bring my own shampoo for this very reason, and the one time I forgot them was when I needed them most. Even the bar soap was minted. All of these things are outside of the control of the hotel or not their responsibility - I get it. But they are the reasons, I'll most likely go somewhere else. I can't imagine staying there in the height of an Okanagan summer with an even busier bar scene! read more

I stayed at The Plaza in Kamloops for 8 days and it was nothing short of perfect. The bed was comfortable, the complimentary toiletries smell AH-mazing, the shower is hot and the terry cloth robes are cozy! The location is right downtown, about a 7 minute walk from Riverside Park and the Sandman Centre. My room even had an amazing view of a mountain that I woke up to every morning. Plus access to yoga at the Yoga Loft is a HUGE perk, I'm a bit of a yoga snob and the instructors there blew me away. There is always citrus water and apples in the lobby which is great when you're running around like I was. Also, the staff are all genuinely lovely people. Everyone from the front desk to the cleaning staff people were always doing anything they could to make me feel welcome and comfortable. The complimentary breakfast is also great since you aren't doing the whole breakfast buffet thing, they actually make your breakfast to order so everything is fresh! (But also check out Hello Toast across the street at least once because YUM). read more

I usually enjoy taking friends and family to the Plaza steakhouse while visiting Kamloops for an upscale dining experience. I was dissapointed by our last experience on a Friday night visit. We indicated to the server that my daughter was celiac and could not have croutons on her ceaser salad (no gluten free childrens menu items were available). When the salad arrived it had croutons on it and we sent it back indicating they could not simply take the croutons off and bring us the same salad and requested a new salad be made. When they brought the 'new' salad my daughter immediately found another crouton in the salad. By then everyone had nearly finished their meals and didn't bother with a third try. They did not offer any appology or compensation for their mistakes (2!). The restaurant was not busy, the manager did not come out, and we left dissatisfied. Naturally we police our food when eating out but two mistakes in a row with no compensation nets them 2 stars. read more
