I travel regularly to Kamloops for work, and Hotel 540 is my favourite place to stay. Front desk staff are friendly, professional, and non-robotic. The hotel is clean and modern. Thick white towels and modern bathrooms. High quality bedding and comfortable mattresses. Special touches such as a microwave for guest use and a non-traditional vending machine with interesting snacks are a bonus. The rooftop (actually 2nd floor) pool/hot tub area is spectacular. Kids and adults alike enjoy using the space. Poolside bar and meal service is available. Staff routinely maintain the pool area, picking up stray towels and dirty dishes. The upgraded executive package is a good deal, as it includes underground parking and a breakfast voucher for the on-site restaurant. The breakfast menu has many options from pancakes to eggs Benedict, and the food is high quality and prepared to order. The hotel is located in the heart of downtown Kamloops and is steps from a full-service grocery store, a large drug store, and many cafes and boutiques. I wear earplugs when sleeping, so I cannot comment on room-to-room noise. I don't feel that the noise transfer between rooms is atypical for a building of it's age/construction type. I sleep better here than at home. Overall exceptional experience. I look forward to staying here. read more

Bad and good experience. Stopping in at this place on my way through to Vancouver. Thought this place looked okay on line so I booked early. When we arrived the building was updated and modern. Smelled nice and it was hot that day, however the hotel was cooled to a good temp. The staff was very friendly. Went to the room and it was so-so. Not the best room, but not bad enough to go to a different hotel. The area of concern was the riff raff they allow in the hotel. The level of clientele was low. We really go to know this when we were trying to sleep. People were partying in the hallway and were very loud. We called down to the manager and they said they would take care of it. We waited and the noise came back. I called down again and management said they would be removing the loud guests shortly. The noise then stopped, however a good night's sleep was out of the question at this point. Not sure if it is the proximity to the casino, but the quality of customers was very low during our stay. read more

When we left Montana, we decided to go back to Oregon through Canada. I had never heard of Kamloops, but my husband, the model train fanatic had, and had ran across another fellow modeler that was from the area and told him about a good hobby shop in the area. Adventure on. I read the reviews about the construction going on here, and that was fine, it happens, and as long as it was not in the room with me, didn't care. We find the hotel and park around back, as there is no available street parking and they are attached to a casino. We got in line to check in (15 mins-3 people ahead of us) and as they explained to us where to park, which in an underground tiny garage, the girl checking us in tells us we need to hurry and move the car that they are quick to ticket cars out there. Take note of that if you are going here. When we got to the room, it was okay. I have pictures of what was a serious downgrade for this place that made me think it was a place I would not stay at again. The beds were not the same. Two queen beds, one was nicer than the other. One was clearly newer and plush and the other one was horrible, too short for the box springs. My question had been this, if you were traveling with another person, who was going to get that awful bed? It was bad, we tested it. That set the tone for the entire hotel. Something about the fact they could not upgrade both beds in a room, major turnoff. They put us on the second floor, the room had a view of the manky rooftop and a grocery store across the street. I have traveled with my dad and his wife, plus my sister has joined us out of town, had we had this room, I would not have stayed with a bed as the one in the picture. I hope I was able to capture it well enough in the photo, but in person it was really noticeable that the bed was too short for the box springs and less plush... yes beating a dead horse to death, but for $149 (priceline) a night I would expect better. The Hyatt Regency was $124 a night, in Calgary, and offered so much more. I would do more research next time and see what else is there. The town is cute enough we agreed we'd go back to check it out. read more

This spot Is considered to be one of the best hotels in Kamloops, featuring a patio pool and all -but the customer service is the worst I've ever experienced in my life. The manager was condescending, rude and seemingly prejudiced against the group of people I was with. They refused our group to lounge by the pool (6 women) - (2 if which were staying in a suite at the hotel on a Saturday afternoon) please note: we were not using any substances or drinking- also note, the patio only had three or four people on it. she said there was 2 , too many of us though,according to hotel policy. Fine, policy is policy - but to approach us , and loudly ask us to leave , even if only infront of three pool patrons, was incredibly humiliating. She addressed us like we were loitering hoodlums vandalizing the hotel. Anyway, just consider this a fair warning - if you plan to go to Hotel 540- you will not be treated with respect or dignity. read more

Eh hotel. We only stayed for one night so I might have not gotten to experience everything, but this is what I can say from our stay: -Upon first entering our room, it had a really bad smell. We had to leave the window open for a long time to get the smell out. -Room was average. Had 2 beds, a TV. Nothing terrible but nothing excellent. -Bathroom was clean. Average shower. -Location is very good. Right in the middle of downtown! It's very close to all the restaurants and stores Kamloops has to offer. We did not really experience anything else. I heard there is a pool but we never got a chance to go. This hotel is fine if you are stopping in Kamloops for a short time. read more

The guys who work at this hotel are incredible. I wrecked my car outside kamloops last August and this was the place I ended up at with nowhere to go after the tow driver dropped me off in town. I tried to get a room there (there was zero vacancies anywhere in the city due to the fires). The hotel staff extended every courtesy to me, including looking for rooms elsewhere in the city, getting me a cardboard box for my bike, and allowing me to hang out in there lobby after the bar had closed so that I could take the 2 am redeye bus back to Vancouver. I really wanted to stay in there hotel and give them my money but they just didn't have any room and I was very touched by their generosity. Thank you hotel 540 staff! read more

Free wifi! I do like the location of this hotel. It is very close to quite a few food places. The only thing I am not a fan of is the bathroom door. It does not close all the way. It is the design of the door. Aside from that, I am very happy with this hotel. They do have a sports bar in the lobby. It is pretty nice with quite a few tvs. I will be recommending it's place to my clients. read more

We got a good deal on Priceline - King size room for $134. Friendly staff greeted us and told us some neat information about how almost every evening they get about 60 rooms filled with Rocky Mountaineer guests. We were pleasantly surprised when we checked in to find out that within that price it included the $13 a night underground parking and 2 complimentary breakfasts! We spent the evening on the rooftop pool - it was filled with slightly obnoxious soccer players, but the staff did a good job trying to keep them respectful. Quick tip - turning the music down or off usually shuts a party down fast. The renovations are welcomed but I wish they invested in better pillows - I honestly would've given this hotel a 4 star rating had the pillows been usable. I'm Not even that picky but we tried to watch tv but found our necks couldn't handle the airplane like pillows. Also the doors are quite loud when they shut, and the walls are not that sound proof - so if your neighbours get up early, so do you. The mattress is also quite firm. I would stay here again just for the pool and hot tub. read more

My family and I went to Kamloops for 4 nights and 5 days and stayed in a family room at 540 Hotel. I've been to many hotels in the past and this place was great. Reading the previous reviews, I think there was construction going on earlier in the year but it is all finished now. The room was spacious with a nice mountain view; 2 queen beds and a large couch. Everything was spotless and clean. Breakfast was included in our nightly fee and the breakfast each morning was spectacular. We got to choose any meal from the breakfast menu and it was super tasty and a great deal as well. The staff were always super friendly and helpful. Parking was easy to navigate as well. However, the WI-FI was pretty poor quality and difficult to work with. Otherwise, everything was great and we would love to go back again! read more

From check in to check out, shoddy customer service and one star treatment . For $60 dollars per night pets receive no extras. Mobility assisted room is not one. Very noisy with 100 guests a night from the Rocky Mountaineer train. Lousy preparation on checking with no forms ready for dogs (over a ten minute wait after a long drive), instructions not followed regarding bath chair and late check out was not honoured. When staff checked the room at least thirty minutes before the agreed up check out time they left the door ajar where a 90 year old, two dogs and various valuables were left behind an ajar door. When speaking with the front desk manager he kept saying he understood. If you really understood it would not have happened. Won't stay here again and won't recommend any of my clients host meeting here. One star service overall and 0 for handling my complaint about the experience within the hotel. read more

Actually this place is no longer called the Executive Inn but the Hotel 540. There is free underground parking. The check in process was friendly and professional. The rooms are and comfortable. However, did find the HVAC system a little loud. The staff seem friendly. The restaurant was a bit overpriced for breakfast. read more

Well this hotel was not terrible I was very disappointed. The website does an amazing job of making this place look like a modern upscale trendy boutique style hotel in reality it is an old unappealing building with a few cosmetic upgrades (think of an old lady with a facelift and boob job). I was pretty upset and immediately regretted my decision. When we got to the room and saw 2 lumpy beds. If your going to spend a pile of money to upgrade a hotel maybe put some of that budget to comfortable beds. I have to say this place did have a lovely rooftop pool area complete with a bartender. It's pretty great a little small but that's okay. All and all I would say if your looking for somewhere to stay for more than a night on your way through town you probably want to keep looking. read more

Stayed a midsummer night driving back from Banff to Seattle and wasn't particularly disappointed. The rooms are decent, A/C blows cold and wi-fi coverage is abundant. I got em to throw in a breakfast voucher too. Once i got there, I thought their underground parking was nice but packed to the gills. And not the easiest to navigate. Their terrace pool was a hit with the boys as was their breakfast buffet. I ordered from the a la carte breakfast and was made to wait for a full 55 minutes ... it'd have been nice if someone had told me I had a choice between them and the buffet. But then this is Canada and while they say "everything is better" they surely aren't referring to their customer service skills. Yet I won't let the restaurant staff mess up my experience with this property's management in general. read more

The hotel was smart to spend money on renovating parts/areas that would appear great on their marketing materials (online & print). However, the room I stayed at was less than impressive. The rough patchwork in the bathroom walls was very visually displeasing. The blinds are not black out blinds and cause lots of light to come through the window first thing in the morning making it difficult to sleep. The soundproofing between the room and the hallway was also poor. One could hear almost everything happening in the hallway. read more

what a lovely stay - the room was a bit outdated and we booked a king bed and got 2 doubles - the pool wasnt open late enough for us to visit but we did check it out the next morning and cant wait to stop by in the summer for a dip! the cocktails were delicious and staff was super freindly- id recommend getting a renovated room for sure and something close to the pool! read more

Great location, everything is in walking distance, the rooftop pool was great. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in kamloops. So many place nearby to eat, shop, drugstore just behind hotel. It was so nice not to drive. I am giving this place five stars because the other options are just to far form everything. The restaurant was great. My room came with breakfast (I had the steak and eggs), valet parking and I had a room on the top floor. Will be back. read more
