Bed on right is subpar go bed on left.
    Holly K.

When we left Montana, we decided to go back to Oregon through Canada. I had never heard of Kamloops, but my husband, the model train fanatic had, and had ran across another fellow modeler that was from the area and told him about a good hobby shop in the area. Adventure on. I read the reviews about the construction going on here, and that was fine, it happens, and as long as it was not in the room with me, didn't care. We find the hotel and park around back, as there is no available street parking and they are attached to a casino. We got in line to check in (15 mins-3 people ahead of us) and as they explained to us where to park, which in an underground tiny garage, the girl checking us in tells us we need to hurry and move the car that they are quick to ticket cars out there. Take note of that if you are going here. When we got to the room, it was okay. I have pictures of what was a serious downgrade for this place that made me think it was a place I would not stay at again. The beds were not the same. Two queen beds, one was nicer than the other. One was clearly newer and plush and the other one was horrible, too short for the box springs. My question had been this, if you were traveling with another person, who was going to get that awful bed? It was bad, we tested it. That set the tone for the entire hotel. Something about the fact they could not upgrade both beds in a room, major turnoff. They put us on the second floor, the room had a view of the manky rooftop and a grocery store across the street. I have traveled with my dad and his wife, plus my sister has joined us out of town, had we had this room, I would not have stayed with a bed as the one in the picture. I hope I was able to capture it well enough in the photo, but in person it was really noticeable that the bed was too short for the box springs and less plush... yes beating a dead horse to death, but for $149 (priceline) a night I would expect better. The Hyatt Regency was $124 a night, in Calgary, and offered so much more. I would do more research next time and see what else is there. The town is cute enough we agreed we'd go back to check it out.

We had been staying at Fairmont Hotels, which are known for their high quality (and expense), so I want to keep that in mind as I write this review. The hotel reminds me of one that we have back home, that is set up for families. The lobby is large and spacious. Upon arriving we were greeting by the friendly staff. Our room was on the second floor. It's a large space, with two queen size beds. There was plenty of space for our luggage, a couple extra shares, and even space to exercise. The bathroom was large and had a tub (I prefer a walk-in shower). The place was "nice", but definitely a bit dated. It was clean, but also needed some TLC (worn/chipped paint, etc). There is a large recreation area that contains a pool and hot-tub. We took advantage of the hot tub which was clean and fully operational (lots of jets and bubbles). Plenty of chairs set up in different areas if you had kids and wanted to keep an eye on them. There are also rooms on all three levels that look out on to this area. Overall, a decent experience. I don't know the actual cost would have been, but on the online price is approx $170/$200 for a weeknight/weekend. They also have a restaurant inside that is a nice convenience (reviewed separately).

The rooms are on either side of the courtyard and the rooms facing have a patio or small balcony. inner rooms on the main floor have two doors. One to the hallway and one to the courtyard. Only thing I could comment on was some mould on the grout of the bathtub. But very minimal. Offsale as part of the buildings but separate enterance. Would definitely stay again.

Nothing more, nothing less. There's a strict no-visitors policy after 10pm, which gave off a slightly sketchy vibe and made me wonder what kind of crowd this hotel usually gets. That said, I had no issues during my stay. The location is solid, with some great food options nearby. The hotel itself, though, lacks any real personality or charm. In this area, the choices are limited, so if you're just looking for a place to crash, it's not the worst option.

When you pay over $7,000 for a party of 3 to ride a train I expect at least a chocolate of the Belgium kind to be on my pillow next to the hunk of a man that is a debonair tree logger or a lovely cannabis rancher. I speak in Jest about a man in the room, just good chocolate. This place had nice staff to welcome us with a sign on the desk stating no check ins after 10, say what? Agatha Christie wrote about this place possibly. It may have been built back in the stone age, way outdated, the dinky cupboards in the room were there for a purpose in someone's imagination, configuration was not HGTV fixable, 3-4 feet above my head. I shared an adjoining room, with a similar poor layout but no cupboards that were not within their reach. My double bed was squashed in the teeny room, no nightstand available because a murphy bed opened up into my bed. How does that work? Beats me. Disgusting to hear road noise all night which is in the same category of snoring. One good thing was they had a tub so I could soak for an hour. Did not feel safe, disappointed that Rocky Mountaineer would stoop so low for their guests. FYI, perhaps it is all Kamloops could offer, but me thinks not. If they offered food, IDK, would not venture into those waters.

We had just finished day three on the Rocky Mountaineer and pulled into KamLoops for the evening. On the train, which usually leaves very early, you enjoy the day, fabulous first class meals, and plenty of wine. You do not sleep on the train. We pulled into Kamloops and then took a short coach ride to the hotel where our baggage was already waiting and we were handed the keys to our room. We decided to have dinner in the hotel's restaurant. While everything started well, it seemed to take a long time to finally get our food and when we did, my friend's plate which was the same item, apeared to be a seriously larger piece of fish. So much so that I showd the manager who offered me another piece. I was not going to wait. In spite of that everything tasted good. We headed back to our room to rest before the early start and final train ride back to Vancouver. A short trip back and we just rested for the evening. The spacious room was clean with a very comfortable bathroom, walk in shower and comfortable bed. Good WiFi always helps to round out a hotel stay. For Marriott elite, there is a curious pantry in the top level Near the elevator that is accessed with your room key. It's stocked with snacks, drinks and some prepared foods and options for breakfast in the morning. It was a nice surprise and open 24 hours. We were in and out with little time spent in town. We found the pool and enjoyed to cool water to offset the blistering afternoon heat. They serve food and drinks on the pool level which is nice as well. Within 10 minutes of the tour buses arriving we had 20 people converge in the pool with kids and parents and grand parents looking for something to do.
