My group and I left the bar and returned a couple of hours later to finish out the night. At approximately 12:38 a.m., I ordered another bottle of water from the same bartender, JULIANNA. However, this time, the transaction was different. For some reason, the price of a bottle of water had increased by $0.90, from $2.68 to $3.58. Interestingly, that $0.90 difference matches the amount of the "tip" that I do not recall entering during the first transaction. Additionally, the new receipt listed the purchase as "Custom Item" instead of "Agua." I asked Julianna for a receipt, and she told me there was no paper in the machine. I explained that I would be fine receiving the receipt via text, which would be easier. She then told me the machine did not have Wi-Fi to send the receipt to my phone. This seemed odd, considering the terminal had successfully processed the transaction. As a solution, I offered to let her use my cellphone hotspot, but she continued insisting that the machine was not working. She began fumbling with the terminal and appeared to become increasingly flustered before eventually re-ringing the bottle of water. For some reason, she then paid for the transaction using her Apple Watch(Mastercard), rather than allowing me to try to re-pay using mine (VISA). Even after she paid for the transaction with her Apple Watch (Mastercard), she continued claiming that the terminal had no Wi-Fi. However, unbeknownst to her, the receipt had been sent to my phone. I continued standing there, watching her fumble with the machine. Eventually, she took a $5 bill from the tip jar, handed it to me, and told me to leave. I took the bill and walked away from the bar to rejoin my friends, who were waiting for their food. For the remainder of the night, she continued giving me dirty looks and even cursed while talking about me with her coworkers. To summarize, I was never rude or disrespectful to Julianna. I simply wanted a receipt for my transaction. I can only speculate that she became upset because she was doing something questionable with the transactions. Anyone making purchases using these terminals should carefully check the prices and review their receipts before and after completing a transaction. Based on my experience, it is worth paying close attention to the amounts charged and the items listed on your receipts, especially when the transaction details do not match what you ordered.
