How do you give no stars?.... . STAY AWAY!! DON'T COME HERE ... We came to this place earlier during our stay and enjoyed the visit. However, we made the mistake of coming here for a second time before we left to come back to the states. We had been in the outdoor portion of the bar for about 25 mins enjoying our time when we noticed that everyone was slowly migrating to the upstairs part of the bar. My fiancé put his foot on the table, it slid and an empty glass was knocked over. He apologized, helped to clean up the mess and took the empty glass to the bartender..... 5 mins later the bouncers came to let us know that the bar was closing.... And we needed to leave... just us though.... Everyone else stayed... Either in the lower level or upper level. I asked what time they closed.. since online said they closed at 1am and it was 11pm but the bouncer just stared at me and said "we're close" I MIGHTVE been more understanding if they said "we're going to have to ask you to leave" or something to that nature but that wasn't the case... I have never been thrown out of anywhere. The group I was traveling with are not the type to be loud or obnoxious.... I asked the bouncer several times why were being kicked out... & be didn't answer. He was actually more concerned with whether or not I was recording his face. The two bouncers (which by the way were half the size of my fiancé) surrounded us... almost as if they expected things to become rowdy. The experience here was awful. We definitely won't be back. I'm sure they don't really care. My advice is that this place is for locals and they do not like outside visitors or tourists. Stay away!

I was wandering around looking for a few different bars that were closed and made it up to the top of the street to check out this one bar that had a wait and heard some alt rock playing at the bar across the street. I came in, sat down, and was greeted by Andrew who was mixing drinks expertly...he was responsible for putting together the playlist that was making me feel like I was in a Philly bar (although he would probably disagree since he is from Detroit). After a few cocktails myself and a few patrons had a lively discussion about our hometowns and trying to describe what Puerto Rico's vibe was. We couldn't come to an agreement, but regardless this is the kind of bar you want to visit if you want to feel like you are both far away and right at home. Also, Andrew will do shots with you. Make sure you talk to him about EDM which is his favorite.

This was our favorite bar in Old San Juan (and we went to a lot of them)! We stopped in the first night for a drink because we were invited in by a friendly stranger (I don't think he worked there, but I could be wrong). It was fairly crowded the first night and our drinks took a while but we were given a free shot for our patience! The owners Gabriel and Albert are so friendly and fun to talk to. You can tell that they are having fun and really care that their guests have a good time. The cocktails were delicious but even more delicious was the food (which we came back for the very next night)-- WOW! I would not have expected such creative and flavorful fusion food. The clay pot mac n cheese was the standout but the BBQ tacos were also great. The people next to us ordered the fried rice and it looked so good that I considered asking for a plate of it to go. Definitely stop in here for a drink, a chat with one of the owners, and save room for some food.

On a recent Friday night in Old San Juan, we were recommended to stop by for a cocktail. We were specifically told to try the bar on the second floor in the back. To our surprise, we definitely lucked out as we met some of the nicest + talented bartenders at their speakeasy called Sube.

If there's a bar in the world that makes you feel like home, Mono Stereo is that for me. On a Wednesday night and my first night in San Juan, I came here alone without much expectation. And then I met the owners/bartenders Gabriel and Albert and they couldn't be cooler. We shared story after story and took shot after shot. I came home highly intoxicated and happy. During my remaining stay in Puerto Rico I came here three more times and always had a great time. On one Tuesday night when the place was slow, we even asked Gabriel to play salsa music so we could dance. Now let's talk about the food, everything here is Asian infusion. Think mac n cheese with kimchi and pork belly, you kidding me?! Me being an Asian living in America, the food here is right up my belly (alley). Puerto Rico is a special place to me and Mono Stereo is one of the reasons why.

Wandering around this lively area of Old San Juan, we came across Mono Stereo and were drawn in. The building itself is incredible, be sure to check out the open air courtyard in the back! Their cocktails are incredible and bartenders and owners are passionate and craft their cocktails with care. Come here if you want the best drink Old San Juan has to offer. Ideal for an intimate date or gathering with friends. Their liquor selection is unique and thorough. The place is fairly new, and I can't wait to see what they do to it in the future!

Our favorite bar in old San Juan! They have a great craft beer selection, creative mixed drinks, and a really cool 60s-70s rock vibe. It's also huge and on the weekend nights it was more clubby, but nice because there weren't that many people there. Not sure why it wouldn't be busier! The bartenders were attentive and awesome!

AMBIANCE: Parking: Welcome to Old San Juan, it get get pretty busy - best to carpool or do public transportation. Seating: Indoor seating or private cabana set ups for groups. Room for a total of 100 people. Feels: Welcome to Old San Juan, a mix of touristy and culture. The spot itself is popular for locals and tourists. As for the space itself, what's unique about this spot is this place isn't just one bar. It's actually a series of connected rooms (about 6-7 different spaces), each with its own vibe - speak easy, dance, casual, house, live music and more! I'm surprised each room can contain it's sounds while maintaining its own energy. It feels like a speakeasy maze meets nightlife experience. Dim lighting, vintage touches, and just enough chaos in a good way. DRINKS/EXPERIENCE It was such a fun night, not sure what I ordered but there is an abundance of flavors as every room has different selections. But popular drinks if you're looking for guidance - lavendar mule, espresso martini, a classic mojito. They got the classic to your well-crafted cocktails. Some spots provide food while others is sip and chill or sip and dance. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Fast-paced but solid. Staff keeps up with the crowd and still manages to be engaging. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars! Good choices, reasonable prices, and a vibe like no other. As a gemini that can be quite indecisive, I enjoyed this spot - especially with its multiple options. This is more than a bar - it's an experience. A spot where the night can go longer than expected. TIPS: * Walk through ALL the rooms--you'll miss half the experience if you don't

We were thrilled when we finally walked through the door again after wracking our brains to remember our favorite spot in Old Town. Upon entering, we were greeted by a young woman who, mentioned it was her very first day as an assistant to the bartender. Despite being brand new, she was warm, engaged, and genuinely welcoming, excited for us that we had made it back after several years, and impressed with our efforts. Shortly thereafter the bartender on duty approached us mid-conversation, visibly irritated. When I mentioned that we hadn't yet decided on drinks but were being well taken care of in the meantime, she interrupted sharply to bark at us that she was the bartender and the ONLY one who could help us. The tone was unwelcoming enough that after a moment, my companion and I determined that we would prefer to move on and left without ordering. The atmosphere is truly special, and it deserves to be matched by the experience guests receive at the bar. Our experience was simply not the vibe that night, and I truly was disappointed FOR the new hire who was doing what she should in engaging us until we could be served. I sincerely hope to return on a future visit to San Juan and to rediscover the experience that first brought me back to La Grieta.

It's small, loud, a little gritty, and completely inviting--exactly what a true dive bar should be. The walls are covered in graffiti and stickers from years of visitors leaving their mark, and honestly, that's part of the magic. You can't help but look around and smile at all the personality packed into such a cozy space. One of my favorite details? Look over to the right corner of the bar and you'll spot what looks like a vintage cash register straight out of the 1800s. Then right in the middle of the bar you've got the modern point-of-sale devices. The contrast is hilarious and perfect--old-school charm meeting modern bar life. There's a pool table, plenty of seating for such an intimate spot, and yes, a restroom inside (always appreciated in Old San Juan!). But what really makes this place stand out is the service--the staff is fantastic, welcoming, and they pour seriously strong drinks that are also refreshingly affordable. This is the kind of place where you come for one drink in the afternoon and suddenly the whole evening disappears in great conversation and good vibes. If you're wandering the streets of Old San Juan and want authentic dive bar energy, great drinks, and a place full of character, this is absolutely a must-stop. Highly recommend.
