I'm launching my 4th startup and never needed outside funding before. I decide that I needed some seed funding to build up a creative social e-commerce agency as I dont want to wait around for years to grow organically. First off let me start by saying I researched a lot of business plan writing companies and from the beginning this one stood out by their kind and warm demeanor and just how much they offered to help new business owners. UPDATE: After the review, the company reached out to me with an offer of rewriting the plan and a partial reimbursement. I asked for time to think about it because I had already spent so much time I wasn't sure I wanted to go through the whole headache again. They reached out again to offer a second option of a website without partial reimbursement. When I questioned why if the website is less than what I paid for the business plan, the owners response was abrasive, harsh, and uncalled for. I have never been rude, mean, or disrespectful. I asked to understand and gain clarity. After that unpleasant conversation, I no longer felt comfortable working with this company again. I asked if a full refund was an option. I was further offended by their response, saying I am taking out my hardship on their company and withdrawing all offers. To clarify, I hadn't requested anything from them previous to their offer. They reached out to ME. Only then did I ask about alternative options based on their snark response to questions, making me further uncomfortable Now I am even more sure this company is unethical and just bad business all around. Perfect example of gaslighting. Acting nice, extending an olive branch, reducing the offer, blaming the client for questioning, then being mean, and making the client look hostile. I have not changed my mind. Would NOT recommend working with this company! Waste of money, waste of time, and overall terrible experience. I had worked with Matt Khalili who created a plan that incorporated financials for a traditional retail pharmacy and a detailed forecast for a delivery revenue stream. What I liked about my plan is that their people understand trends in the pharmacy retail business and know how insurance companies painfully cut into our cash flow each year. We were more confident in our path as we found the necessity for new revenue streams to keep us at the profitability we want. My plan was done in about one week and they used a research report based on a California market retail pharmacy analysis. Overall, the people at this company are smart and efficient. A more focused look at the negative reviews is in order before one considers engaging Matt Khalili and his team at The Plan Writes. My experience working with them to produce a Business Plan and accompanying Presentation Deck was quite frustrating. In spite of my providing more than enough detailed material and having many direct phone conversations with members of The Plan Writers team, the work that was delivered was incomplete and not satisfactory. It contained a narrative with factual errors, lacked relevant market data, and contained financials with significant omissions and formula errors. Also, the finalized layout and graphics were never completed. Finally, a completed Presentation Deck which was contracted for was never delivered. When I queried Matt about the poor performance of his team in delivering what was contracted, he gaslighted me insisting the work was complete and of good quality. Working with the Plan Writers has been a complete waste of time and unfortunately a waste of almost $10K. read more

When I solicited plan writers to update my business plan to include subsidiaries I had initiated, I was initially pleased with the 1st call and their flexibility on payment options as this was the only reason I didn't work with initial Co. Firstly, Communication was seriously lacking, I had to constantly email to ask if they needed any info. 2ndly, They require full pmt prior to initial draft which didn't come with the financials (most imp since I had 70% narrative done). 3) Assigned to an immigration specialist for a healthcare plan. (Matt said she has experience with visas, I guess because my organization is abroad, he thought we needed visas as opposed to someone with healthcare experience?) 4) Plan goes to Graphics department arbitrarily decides, without any input from customer. They did a good job, however, it did not reflect the community I'm serving. 5) It took 5 months to complete the plan and the assigned writer actually told me it's one of the longest time periods its taken. Eventually, we had a conference call which began with Matt dictating what was to be discussed and what I was not allowed to express 4) when I voiced my concerns, I received an email from Matt stating I needed an 'attitude adjustment" . I've been a nurse (RN, MpH) for 21yrs, currently starting a hospice, I know how to articulate myself professionally, I don't curse or yell, so I'm not sure what he thought needed "adjustment". When I called Matt to let him know I was offended by his insinuation that I'm an 'angry black woman" for expressing my concerns actually laughed! I was shocked and I asked him incredulously why he would laugh, he stated he thought I was joking? I don't know which part of this scenario would be funny? Personally, Lesson learnt, due a lot of due diligence research especially for something this important. More importantly, plan writers are in the business of articulating people's visions and dreams into a business format, why would you not welcome and be so resistant to input from the clients you're supposed to be serving?
