If I could give ZERO stars I would! A brief synopsis of the facts: #1) I met with Dan at the "The Plan Handyman Services" at our home to show him a kitchen pony wall that had a raised bar area that we wanted cut down to be even with the top of the new kitchen island cabinets that were going to be installed. We also wanted the kitchen sink plumbing moved over 18" inches & the existing outlets relocated on the new pony wall. Dan said they would get the needed materials at Home Depot, & that anything not used would be left so that I could return it to Home Depot for credit. Dan said the material charges would probably run around $100 bucks. #2) Dan took pictures of the pony wall & made some measurements & said he would show his associate (his father) & get back to me with a price. Later, he sent over an invoice with a 1 to 2 day timeline to get everything done. The bid was accepted based on HIS quote & the 1 to 2 day max timetable. #3) Dan & his dad arrived on a Wednesday & worked about 3 hours before leaving my job to go do a job at a T-Mobile store in Long Beach? They promised to be back the next day (Thursday) to finish the job. Dan asked for $200 dollars which I agreed to, even though they weren't done, & put it on my VISA card - but then he charged me an additional $20 to do an "Immediate Transfer' so he got his money right away. #4) Dan messaged me on Thursday to say his dad wasn't feeling well & that they weren't coming that day, but that they would be back Friday with the materials & finish the job. Dan messaged me on Friday about mid-day to tell me they were going to go to Home Depot to get the materials needed - **However, he said he gave me too good of a price & wanted another $150 if I wanted them to continue with the job (my kitchen is torn apart & we have no sink - & we had contractors lined up to do work after the pony wall work was done so I had no choice but to agree). I asked Dan that if I agree to the additional charge would they absolutely get the job done Friday. Dan said they would & so I agreed to the new price. When Dan had gotten all the materials he needed at HD, the cashier & I spoke on the phone - she charged my HD Credit Card $460.00 dollars. #5) Dan & his dad arrived after 3 pm with the materials. Dan presented me with an invoice for the new total - minus the $200 I had already paid. I signed the invoice & he promised to give me a copy. He never did. He also promised to give me the Home Depot receipt (I paid for it) but he never did that either. My wife & I advised Dan that they could work till midnight if needed just to get the job done - Told Dan we had a drywall contractor coming on Saturday to put up the drywall on the pony so they had to be done because the cabinet installers were next. Dan again said they would be done with most on Friday with maybe a few minor details to finish up on Saturday. #6) Dan & his dad worked another 3 hours & packed up & left again, promising my wife and I that they would definitely be back on Saturday morning at 10:30 am to completely finish the job. I messaged the drywall guy & he said he could come Sunday if they finish the wall Saturday. #7) Dan messaged me at !0:52 pm Friday night to tell me that he something personal to take care of & that they would not be coming on Saturday - Dan said they would be back on Monday. #8) I messaged the drywall guy & let him know that he didn't need to come because the pony wall was no-where near being done. #9) On Sunday, my wife, daughter, son & I went over the HD receipt (was able to download it online) & checked off the materials that were here. There was over $100 dollars in SharkBite fittings missing along with a 10 pack of Sawzall blades (I know they used one or two cutting the top off 7 studs in the pony wall - but why take the rest of the pack I paid for?). #10) On Sunday I messaged Dan to ask for the return of the missing materials so I could take everything back & get credit on my HD card &I also let him know that since he had NOT met his OWN timetable, & that he called off the job twice, I was letting him go & we were going to have to get someone else. #11) I messaged him several times over the next few days to PLEASE bring back the missing materials so that they could be returned to HD. At first I wanted the $220 back & the materials but then said he could keep the $220 if he would return the materials so that I could take them back to HD for credit. Dan ghosted me. After about a week of no response from Dan I finally messaged him on a different number & let him know we needed the materials back & the $220. My wife & I are seniors on a fixed income so we can't afford to pay another person to do the job. Dan refuses to return any money or the materials. #12). As a result I have to dispute the charge on my credit card, file a complaint with the Contractors state licensing board for a non-licensed contractor doing a job for over $1000 dollars (labor & materials), & let everyone know what happened. read more
