The good, the bad, and the meh. Tried out this pizza place that's been on my local list and it was definitely somewhere I will visit again. The pizza was great; fresh ingredients, homemade sauces, and generous portions. The unfortunate thing: they don't serve all their pizzas by the slice. They only have slices of a select few and my favorites did not make that list. I have to wait until they get listed as a special to try them out or I have to buy a whole pizza, just to try it. Overall, a good slice and will be on the list for a quick bite. read more

New York style slice was legit. Crust had a good chew, cheese pulled right, hit the spot after walking around downtown. No complaints on the food itself. Only gripe is the menu. Pricing wasn't clear and I figured a slice would run a few bucks like most places. Walked out $8 (+tip) lighter for one slice, which caught me off guard. Would've been good to know going in. Post the slice prices somewhere obvious and you're golden. Still worth a stop if you're in Nevada City and want a solid slice. read more

The pizza here is seriously delicious! The crust is crispy on the outside, soft and chewy in the middle, and the toppings are fresh and flavorful. The portions are generous, the staff is friendly, and everything came out hot and fresh. It has that perfect neighborhood-pizza-joint feel without sacrificing quality. Definitely worth stopping by if you're craving a great slice! read more

The pizza is delicious and the staff are friendly. One of the best local pizza shops around.

Very pleasantly surprised as this was about a 30 second walk from my air bnb. Legit New York style cheese and The Grandma Sicilian style was a sleeper hit. I might have to go back tonight. read more

Best slice of pizza in Nevada city! I personally recommend the "wise guy" specialty Detroit style heirloom pizza. You gotta order an entire pizza buy it will be the only thing you wanna order from then on. read more

My son and I stopped in the other day while shopping, and the pizza itself was really good. The crust was amazing, perfectly toasted with a great texture and we tried a couple of different slices, all of which were flavorful and satisfying. That said, the price felt a bit high, especially considering there isn't anywhere to sit or hang out. It's very much a grab-and-go spot, which is fine, but the cost didn't quite match the experience. Still, if you're looking for a quick slice while you're out shopping and don't mind eating on the go, it's a solid option. The quality of the pizza definitely stands out. read more

My friend and I wanted something kinda quick because we had gotten so hungry walking around this wonderful town. Nevada City Cal. Pizza by the slice was a great option for us. This place is tiny with no tables but stands, so we took ours to go and found a place by the water wheel, down the block. It's an open common area with tables near the bookstore .We ordered ranch dressing to accompany our pizza. We love dipping the slice into the dressing, so perfect. I ordered a slice with Tomato, kale, red sauce and mozzarella. ( I can't find the name of this pizza on the menu ). My friend ordered the Maui Wowie, We opened the box to generous slices and found it to be one of the best crusts ever. The flavor was amazing, both of us agreed it was probably the best pizza we've ever had. Next visit I want to order a whole pie and eat until I can't eat anymore. For me this is the most satisfying way to consume Carbs. ever... I want to also say that the female employee counter person ( didn't catch her name ) was really great too. Our experience was definitely worth 5 stars. I totally disagree with anyone who posted a One review. read more

Crazy high prices but foods delicious. Wondering if rent prices are driving prices up or if that's what locals are willing to pay?

My friends and I got pizza slices to go from here, and they really hit the spot. We liked the pizza sauce, but thought there was room for improvement on the crust. The crust needed more flavor. The Pizza Joint is busy, so others must be fine with a bland crust. read more

Absolutely yummy New York style pizzas. Nice folks. Huge pies and slices. They'll take your number and text you when it's ready for pick up so I enjoy walking the shops in the neighborhood if they're swamped. I order a slew of them for special events. Everybody's happy. read more

Such an unexpected find! Not only was the pizza great, but the service Tracy gave was so kind, bubbly, and fun that it completely elevated our experience. I'll absolutely come back here and cross my fingers that Tracy's working because she set the tone for a fantastic night read more

This is a cute little hole in the wall pizza place. I came in here last week with a friend and we got two slices of their individual pizza which are only seven dollars. I got the Italian I think it was called, the pizza was so amazing my friend and I couldn't stop talking about how great it was through every bite. Also, I saw their whole pizzas are only around $35 which is amazingly reasonable considering how good they are, and the large actually looked like a large unlike many pizza places now. The lady that helped us was also very friendly as well. I will definitely be back for a whole pizzas in the future. read more

The staff was friendly no problems. The inside was a super cute rustic pizza shop. I really enjoyed it. There is no inside dine in seating it's more of a chill and then take it to go which is kinda fun. Honesty I heard amazing things about this place and my family loves it. However, on a more serious note the red sauce is just plain tomato sauce. There's no onion or garlic / Italian seasoning. The pizza was evenly/ nicely cooked. Just not really that intricate. I had my hopes up for some garlic type flavors. Overall super cute spot would stop by again for a slice and some kombucha. Whole pizza was too much for enjoyment. However I will say the portion is quite large for the price. read more

Damn good Pizza! Excellent crust. And you can get slices.. quick in quick out. Will try and whole pie next time.

The pizza slapped. The vibes were immaculate. But Tracey? Tracey stole the show. Friendly, fast, and genuinely cared that we had the best experience. She turned a quick dinner into a "we're definitely coming back" kind of night. read more

We waited in line for over 30min no big deal.. the pizza is great! But man oh man the two girls in the front taking the order & serving the pizza.. such an ugly attitude... I get it you guys are busy! I also own a small business & even on our busier days we don't don't respond the way she did when I asked her for a few plates. We bought a large pizza & a few single slices to try diff flavors all I wanted were a few plates for our younger kids. read more

Came through town heading up the mountain to an Airbnb and decided to pick up pizza for dinner. This place had the best reviews so we came here. We lucked out with a metered parking spot on the street and came in and ordered. They had some different choices on crust and we opted for the Detroit style which was Amazing we were so please when we dove into this when we arrived at our place for the night. I bet it would have even been more awesome right out of the oven but this was honestly even great cold the next morning! We will definitely be back. read more

The Pizza Joint - a pizza in a box - Pizza Near Me - Nevada City, California

Terrible Experience - Accused of Stealing Over Their Own Mistake. I went in for dinner and ended up being accused of stealing pizza. I ordered a few slices and asked for ranch. The lady at the counter gave me my total, and I tapped my card on the terminal. I heard the beep, assumed it had gone through, and stood there for the next 30 seconds waiting for her to acknowledge the payment. She said nothing. I figured everything was fine. I waited about five minutes for my food, grabbed it, and walked outside. I wasn't even leaving--just standing further away, looking for my car keys--when the same lady ran after me, yelling aggressively that I hadn't paid. I went back in, she yelled the total at me again, and finally flipped the screen around so I could see it. I paid again and told her I was sorry--I genuinely didn't know the payment hadn't gone through. But she continued treating me like I'd tried to steal it. Here's the kicker: I was at this place a week earlier, and something similar happened. That time, I tapped my card, waited for her to acknowledge it, and eventually had to ask if it went through. She seemed annoyed, flipped the screen toward me. Clearly, this is not a one-off issue. I seriously encourage the place to check the security cameras. I did tap the terminal. The issue is with staff who are not trained (or too checked out) to handle it properly. If someone can't manage the register or track transactions, maybe someone else should be doing it. If you're just visiting, skip this place--there are better spots in Nevada City with friendlier, more competent staff. If you live here, respect yourself and go somewhere else. To the staff: please, train someone who actually understands how the payment system works. And stop pretending like you are from New York. Their attitude is authentic, yours is just pathetic. I won't be back--and neither will my friends or family read more

Good pizza, absolutely terrible service. We visited The Pizza Joint over the weekend when there was quite literally a winter snow storm. This was our first time checking out DT Nevada City and we were so impressed with the diversity and amazing gems we found up until we landed here for a quick bite before we braved the snow. We ordered three slices and when asked if we wanted a box we agreed because the 3 slices were a lot to hold for two people (they're delicious giant slices!) There were two other patrons eating there when we got there (also eating from a box) and during our time there there was one customer who came in for a pick up. We enjoyed our two slices and when I picked up the Grandma it was very cold. Since it's super thick I figured that's why. My husband asked if it was possible to heat it up after the fact, the staff member said no (which is totally understandable and not a problem). What she said after WAS a problem. She proceeded to cop up an attitude and say how we shouldn't even be eating in the restaurant and "a box usually means to go, ya know?" gesturing towards the door. I turned around and couldn't believe someone would talk to a paying patron like that, but especially given the weather and how we shared we were so excited to try some slices. We immediately picked up our things. I threw away the cold slice and crushed the large pizza box in half and carried it out with me (since there was a "no pizza box" sign at the trash can). Mind you, the two other patrons who had been eating there before us continued to eat there and were not asked to leave and/or given a hard time about eating from a box. This made the previously great outing a negative experience. Truly a rude staff member who has the opportunity with each guest to make a positive impact and chose to be rude and beyond inconsiderate. Not only will we will not be dining there again, we will definitely not be recommending this establishment to any one. If anything, we would discourage those we know from trying it. There's plenty of places to eat up there that know how to treat customers. The pizza is good, but definitely not good enough to have such a nasty staff member. read more

I live in the LA area and have traveled the world and eaten hundreds of different pizzas from various cities and countries. While in Nevada City visiting our daughter and her fiancé we found the food in that city to be mediocre at best. Except for the pizza joint. The pizza we ordered, great grandma pizza, was the best we ever had anywhere. What a delicious and delightful surprise! So fresh, so tasty with high quality ingredients and cooked perfectly! Such a gem. So disappointed that there is nothing in Los Angeles area that compares to it. read more

The food... top notch and 5/5 pizza. The service 0/5. I think they're trying to give the impression they are from New York, and New Yorkers are rude. As a native East Coaster I can tell you they are nowhere near the mark of what a true New Yorker is like. They are rude, dismissive, and act like they're doing you a favor. This is probably the last time we'll come here. It's not worth it to spend upwards of $50 for a few slices of pizza for this type of service. Oh, and get this, they don't even let you use the bathroom. The only business I know of that is still running pandemic era restrictions. The prices go up, the service keeps going down. Last time for us. read more

food was good, expensive for a slice of pizza but good food. the lady at the cash register was completely rude and seems like she forgets she is working CUSTOMER SERVICE and her job really isn't that hard, she had a lot of attitude and seemed to have a huge problem with the fact that me and my friends were paying separately, which wasn't a big deal at all. she was very rude for no reason read more

It's great pizza, especially if you like thin crust. The toppings are very good quality. But if you haven't been here before, don't expect a "joint." No place to sit or hangout, roped off bathroom, no signed celebrity photos, no street vibe, $3.75 sodas, no juke box or great music, none of the things that make a "joint" a joint are present here. Thus it is the Californication of pizza, which is fine but just don't think of it as a "joint" -- because that, it ain't. read more

Visited Nevada City for the weekend and stopped by for a slice during a day of shopping. The staff was awesome and the pizza was absolutely amazing!!! In fact I we went back the next day too. The pizza is DELICIOUS!! Perfect crust, flavorful and well worth the wait if its busy. This pizza is so awesome that I will drive from Sacramento to Nevada City just for this pizza...that's how good it is!!! Kudos to the staff for an amazingly awesome pizza and fantastic service!! Pizza so good, I wish they had one in my town. It wasn't just the pervading air quality

Pizza snob from New Jersey here. I always have to lower my standards for pizza in the west but was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this pizza. Ordered a large pepperoni pizza that was cooked well, not burnt and still soft. I would give 5 stars but the over abundance of pepperoni killed the mild flavor of the cheese. The size of the pizza was much larger than your typical pizza and at a price of $33, it was worth it. Staff were very friendly. Will definitely go back again and try again. read more

You're only as strong as your weakest link, and unfortunately, this pizza place has plenty. I placed a phone order early in the day, expecting it to be ready by 6 PM for a friend to pick up. However, when my friend arrived, they were told the pizza had already been picked up. Instead of taking responsibility, the staff initially argued that the mistake was ours. After some back-and-forth, they admitted their error and promised to remake the pizza--only to hand over a cold pizza that had already been made. Alienating the local community is a surefire way for a restaurant to fail. As for me, I won't be returning and will advise my friends to do the same. read more
