My son lived in an older unit for 2 years and almost zero problems. His last year there, he went to a new townhome. First day, problems start. They gave him his key and unit number and we moved all of his stuff in. Had everything set up and went back to his old unit to stay the night and clean. First thing in the morning, someone calls and ask why he moved into the wrong unit...because that is the one they assigned and gave the key to is why. We got dressed, went to the office and they acted like it was our fault and no one apologized. We went to the unit they had originally assigned and all of his stuff was boxed up and by the door. Pretty sure they should not have touched his things. Someone was watching his tv and they said they were told it came with the unit!!!! One sweet custodian helped moved all his stuff to the other unit which was a few doors down. Only helpful staff I encountered. Then the stovetop had to be replaced, full on cracks upon move in with brand new stove. No blinds on sliding glass doors or front door...all glass for all to see in. Parking taken up by pub goers and noise is loud! Biggest complaint was the power bills! There were 2 months that my son and his roommates were away visiting home and the power bill was over $400! Getting a detailed bill is impossible because it is through a third party. I can't tell you how many times I asked and was told they were investigating. There were no lights left on and everything unplugged...very fishy! Power bill stayed extremely high the entire time no matter what they did. He has been out of there for a year and a half, and I had to wait to write this...or else it would have been much longer and heated. read more

As I have seen in many other reviews, the charges after moving out are ridiculous. If you move into the Puer, make sure to take pictures of all existing marks on the wall and floor. check to make sure all blinds are working and if not have them fixed immediately. We did not do this and was charged for these type of things that were there before the move in. Seems like a common complaint on here. read more

Every vent in our apartment has mold in/on them. And the fridge filter says it is "good" and new, but it is definitely not and tastes unfiltered. Toilet is leaking out of the reservoir too. Reported these problems and have not been fixed. They just keep adding fees every month, double charging for things like insurance or electricity and amenities, giving you a monthly discount for signing early but then not applying it, so they charge you in full for rent. Lazy river is disgusting with mold and still water. The flats gym is terrible with broken machines. The Wi-Fi is terrible and super inconsistent, I have to use my phone data instead. Bus route is awful takes 30 minutes for a 7 minute drive because it has to go to 3 stops in the Pier, and one at the flats. If the bus leaves you (which it does a lot) you will be stuck waiting 40 min. You will be waiting at the bus stop, then the bus will come and say "ill be back in 10 minutes" and just drives off, leaving you waiting and late for class. read more

Very disappointing that when a student moves out they charge you for any and all repairs, painting and cleaning they possibly can. $550 per kid in a four bedroom apartment for minor marks on a wall. Absolutely aweful practises. read more

Do NOT live at The Pier. When we moved out, they charged me and my roommates over $2,000 in "damages" that were either pre-existing when we moved in or just normal wear and tear. They even tried to use photos of things that were already there at move-in as proof against us. When we disputed it, management refused to remove the charges. This place is predatory and takes advantage of students who don't know their rights. If you end up here, document every inch of your unit at move-in, because they will nickel and dime you for anything they can. read more

When we moved in, the cottage looked like it had squaters living in it. WE sprayed and used bug Bombs. Then we cleaned for 2 days changed the airfilter. We did the floors with a machine washed rugs etc. When we moved out they charged us for damage that was there before we moved in. Blinds were dented, we got charged 450 hit my credit. The property is unsafe security absent, trash everywhere. Keep in mind that they have reviews but they are not public and selected, they offer food and drinks for good reviews. read more

We have not even moved in yet and already have had a horrible experience. My daughter signed a lease with some friends last October, unfortunately things did not work out with one of the girls. No fault of own. Racial comments were made by one of her friends boyfriend and the problem was never resolved. We asked if she could somehow get out of her lease. They said to try and sublease. We did to no avail. They placed her in another 4x4 which was fine, she spoke and was texting her new roomies and everything seemed great. My daughter is bringing her dog which the Pier is aware of. We paid the pet deposit, got private renters insurance, paid all the fees, did everything we were supposed to do. Move in is 8/15 at 9. We thought! My daughter got a text from one of her roommates 8/1 saying she is DEATHLY ALLERGIC and she needs to leave her dog at home. I called the Pier and explained the situation to Hannah, at which time I was placed on hold. When she came back she told me management was aware of the situation and they would put my daughter in another unit. so I asked why they would place her in a unit where people had stated on their application that they were not ok with pets? She stated and I quote " Well, they don't always look at that" During a second phone call I became aware that earlier in the week the other 2 roomies had already been to the office and complained about her bringing a dog, which they knew for weeks and were ok with it. My daughter had been reassigned at that time. She was never told, nor was I. When were we going to be told? Again, we already had renters ins for that address and we were under the impression everything was a go. At that time we decided maybe a 2x2 was a better choice for us. It was advertised on the website as $350 off. We did not get that rate. Why? Now her move in time is 3-5. We are from Texas and move in is in two weeks. We can't get a return call, email and no one seems to have any answers. The Pier has made this whole experience a nightmare. I wouldn't recommend this place if communication is important to you. read more

Do not lease here. The management will not respond emails or voicemails at all. They never answer the phones. They will lie to you about the hidden fees that will cost you more per month than building a house and selling after graduation. I would highly suggest voice recording all conversations as they deny what they've told you. This place will "fee" you to death. read more

Living at The Pier has been a disappointing and unsatisfactory experience. When we moved in, our downstairs sink had a large hole in it, and our washer and dryer weren't even plugged in. One of our bathrooms has a toilet that isn't screwed in, and our hot water is atrocious. The stools for our kitchen island are all wobbly and the tops are on the verge of popping off, and maintenance told us they wouldn't fix our fridge filters. The floors upstairs are warped and broken and there's paint chipped off in rooms. One of the bedrooms here has a stench of mildew and sweat that WILL NOT go away. The pantries are difficult to store food, and the fridges are small for 4 people. The couch is the most uncomfortable piece of furniture I have ever sat on in my 20 years of life. We also have a large ant/spider problem that maintenance again would not fix. Parking by our house is sometimes impossible to find, and lastly, the workers here are rude and inconsiderate. DO NOT live here no matter all the deals they offer(it isn't worth it). read more

The new amenity center is gorgeous and the new cottages look great. The new cottages has the largest living rooms in Clemson and by far the nicest furniture. The 9-bedroom mansions will be one-of-kind in the country, let alone in Clemson. read more

This review is based on the initial experience with the Pier. If you're going to lease with them, be prepared for the master bait and switch. Our daughters were shown a beautiful home on the lake and told it would be theirs if they signed a lease that day. But low and behold, when move-in time came, an email was sent out with a different address than what was originally confirmed, and no, it was not on the lake and it was actually an older dumpier version than anything else they had been shown. But same price. Terrible false advertising, and terrible first experience of renting an apartment from scammers for these girls. When we tried to get an answer as to why the address had changed, there was no way to get in touch with anybody, and nobody would return a phone call. After several weeks of attempting to find out why there had been such a bait and switch, the answer was that the person who was "guaranteeing" homes, no longer worked there. No explanation as to why the home they had signed up for was given to somebody else. Super frustrating and disappointing. read more

I made this account just to give the pier a bad review. The Pier will make you think that they're great with all the new amenities, but then take every opportunity to nickel and dime college students. When I first moved in to the flats my junior year, the rent was $555/month. Then they added some cheap furniture, a bad paint job, and upped it to $750, but I was paying close to $870 with utilities and fees. At move out, they charged each of my roommates $150 for paint. The reasoning? "Heavy scuffing" on the walls (they gave me 3 photos of tiny marks and a few nail holes as evidence) that was obviously due to their crappy furniture hitting the walls every once in a while, and they never said we couldn't put nails in the wall. They gave us a ticket for having something other than furniture on our porch (it was a traffic cone, which many other people had). They charged us $300 in the middle of the year to replace our blinds, and genuinely won't return my call looking for a better explanation on the paint thing. We were very clean, very quiet tenants, and wanted to enjoy our time living there and the amenities provided, but unfortunately my experience has been tainted by the greed of their management and I genuinely would not recommend the Pier under its current management to anyone. read more

Horrible living experience for our Clemson student. This property is only interested in collecting rent with no communication of pending construction within the neighborhood. Contractors do not observe quiet hours, staring at day light, with ongoing noise throughout the day and loss of power randomly without notice. Construction debris and trash everywhere. Construction company and workers have no concern for student/resident life experiences. Parking has become overwhelmed with construction vehicles and red clay mud throughout parking areas. Property Management has no concern for tenants after the lease is signed. Once you are a resident, you become an income stream without regard to resident well being. Your student would be better off on campus or at another property location. read more

These people are unethical. Be sure to take photos of the room before you move in, every wall. There were a couple of holes in the wall which were there before move in and then we received a charge on the credit card for $200 for patching walls and painting. Then visited a friend who lived in the same apartment, checked out the room and the walls were never patched or painted; however they charged my credit card for it. They provided a dispute email address which nobody even responded to, then the email address was no longer valid. I called and wrote a letter and no response. I know these are college students that are staying in these apartments but that's no reason to take advantage of them and their parents. Disgusting business practices. read more

The management of this place is horrendous. The place was filthy when we moved in. Mold everywhere and it continuously came out of the vents. AC was broken when we moved in mid August and had to wait a week for it to get fixed. Wifi didnt work either and took a couple days to fix. Throughout the course of the lease it was difficult to get maintenance to do anything. Multiple things that were broken when we moved in were never fixed by the end of the lease, then they try to charge you for it! Simple bills (which you are forced to use to pay utilities) is a scam. Moved in to plastered holes in wall then made to pay for it. Moved in to plaster covered holes in wall. Documented pictures and submitted and called to insure issue was noted. Now in my stay I did cause some scuffs and stains on walls that would call cause for a repaint but due to the fact that the walls were already damaged. I expected no charges. Ultimately was charged for painting the walls. My dispute and the pier responses are below. Full details: The company response was as follows: Per email: "Paint, per our company policy, if a room requires one or more walls to be touched up for paint then the entire room must be painted to ensure paint consistency." There was already damage on one wall meaning they would need to paint all the walls. So not sure how this means that I should have to pay for the walls Called for clarification where it was said that 'their policy says that there has to be evidence of marks on more than 1 wall.' So since they only put holes in one wall of the room i had to put for it. Ultimately the pier is pushing their repair costs off on to the next tenant. Hope this does not happen to you if you choose the pier. read more

If I could give ZERO stars I would. Do yourself a favor and live elsewhere. This place is a joke. My son lived here and when he moved out, they tried to charge him for painting and carpet cleaning when I know for a fact that his unit had not been painted or carpets cleaned in at least 3 years and probably way longer based on the condition of both when he moved in. Painting and carpet cleaning between tenants is the responsibility of the property owner, not the resident if it is normal wear and tear. Their maintenance is horrific. Thankfully, they are so disorganized that they did not ever collect a security deposit from us! read more
