Clemson football head coach Dabo Swinney speaking at the White House in January 2019.
    Daniel B.

I'm not a Clemson fan, but I do like the Tigers and root for them when they're not playing one of my teams, Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. I love the ACC and generally root for ACC teams in non-conference play, especially bowl games, the College Football Playoff, and March Madness. Clemson has represented the league extremely well in recent years with two football national championships (2016, 2018) and their men's basketball team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 as recently as 2018. The first college football game I attended in person was a matchup between Wake and Clemson in Winston-Salem in the late 80s/early 90s. I remember my elementary school friends and I sat behind the Clemson players on the sidelines. My friend got one of the Clemson players' attention and said "Go Deacs!" while decked out in Wake gear. As kids, we thought it was funny at the time. Clemson and Georgia Tech have a football rivalry that dates back to 1898 or 1902 depending on where you look. I still remember where I was my freshman year at Tech when we beat Clemson in Death Valley. October 28, 2000. George Godsey to Kerry Watkins, 16-yard touchdown reception with seven seconds left on the clock for the 31-28 come-from-behind win: https://youtu.be/8WXOg5YNaLQ?t=9094. And of course, who can forget the 2004 game, also in Death Valley, where "a legend was born in Calvin Johnson." Another come-from-behind victory for the Jackets. That time, 28-24. Don't forget, the beloved Reggie Ball threw that pass. September 11, 2004. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JL6YQsw7Y4. I was there at the 2009 ACC Championship Game in Tampa between Clemson and Tech. December 5, 2009. Tech won that game as well, 39-34. We beat Clemson two times in the same season that year. We actually beat Dabo Swinney five out of our first eight meetings against him (2008-2014), but once Dabo got the program established at an elite level, Clemson has pretty much owned us with an 8-2 record against Tech since 2010. The 2016 (played in 2017) and 2018 (played in 2019) national championship games against Alabama were a lot of fun to watch. Deshaun Watson was absolutely clutch down the stretch in the 2016 title game: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kYp9hcsqqRE. In the 2018 title game, Clemson laid the smackdown on Bama, blowing out the Tide, 44-16. The 2019 title game (played in 2020) against LSU was painful to watch, with Clemson getting beaten by the better team, 42-25. However, there's no doubt that Dabo has now established Clemson football as one of the nation's powerhouse programs. I've always liked Dabo. He seems like a swell guy. Clemson men's basketball during the Rick Barnes era (1994-98) was memorable to me. He led the Tigers basketball team to the NCAA tournament three out of his four years with a Sweet 16 appearance in 1997 with talented players like Greg Buckner, Harold Jamison, and Terrell McIntyre. I still remember watching a game between Clemson and North Carolina in Chapel Hill where so many Clemson players had fouled out that Clemson had to finish the game with only four players on the court. I've never seen anything like it since. That was January 29, 1998. Clemson used to hold one of the worst and most well-known losing streaks in sports. They had lost 59 straight games on the road against Carolina, dating back to 1926. That 59-game losing streak is an NCAA record. Clemson finally broke that streak on January 11, 2020, beating the Tar Heels in the Dean Dome, 79-76 in overtime. As far as Clemson fans go, they've always been some of the nicest and friendliest fans I've interacted with. Same goes with Auburn fans. Auburn is like the Clemson of the SEC. The two schools are similar, down to their colors (orange) and mascots (Tigers), and they share quite a bit of football history. The only negative experience I've had with a Clemson fan was at a Waffle House in Florida after the 2009 ACC Championship Game. A young Clemson female fan cursed out the staff of the Waffle House before storming out of the restaurant. She made a scene and was incredibly rude. If you've ever seen those "IPTAY" stickers on Clemson fans' cars, it stands for "I pay ten a year." It means they donate to Clemson's athletic programs. The slogan is from 1934 and they've just kept the name even though it's outdated. It's kind of like how the Big Ten is still called the Big Ten even though there are 14 - not 10 - teams in the conference.

We did a campus tour with our daughter. It was easy to set up online. They have you park at a church off campus and take a shuttle in because parking is hard to come by once you are on campus. I thought the presentation was great and our tour guide was very personable. The campus is pretty nice and I look forward to spending more time up there in the fall.

I didn't get to explore the campus but the part I did get to see was beautiful. It was the middle of a school day so the campus was lively and full of activity. The stadium is huge! I love the tiger paws all around campus--too cute!! I grabbed lunch at one of the dining halls. The hall is huge and consists of a few options including Which Wich, Twisted Taco, and Starbucks. Students can rent bicycles to travel around campus--great idea!

With a "Song that Shakes the Southland" these Tigers are no drag. It's not played by some cover band We jam to the Tiger Rag! Clemson Football speaks for itself. A great team, amazing coach and thrilling environment, make Clemson one of (if not THE) best schools for football season. All athletics aside, Clemson University is a spectacular school. There are so many majors to choose from and a staff full of dedicated professors and administrators. I did not attend myself but was accepted and have several friends/colleagues who shared experiences with me. Truly a wonderful environment for academia and the college experience. Through all of the visits for tours, field trips, football games and friendly gatherings, I've never left this place unhappy. C L E M S O N -- T I G E Rrrr S! Fight Tigers, Fight Tigers, Fight, Fight, FIGHT!!

Been a Clemson FAN FOR MANY YEARS!!! Our son attended their football camps while in high school and applied but did not get accepted but our daughter did get accepted and is currently a Freshman Education major. We are members of iptay and love the tailgates during home games.

Gorgeous campus, friendly people. We are here for a campus tour and will hopefully return with a freshman in tow next year! The football stadium is amazing. The dorms and buildings are all well maintained.

Gorgeous campus but be prepared to walk a lot of hills! Visitor parking is scarce and metered which seems uncalled for. Make sure you get a picture with all the tigers and go see Littlejohn as well as Howard's Rock! The lawn with tiger paw is a great photo op!

Even many years after graduating, I am drawn to this place and cherish the time I get to spend here. A beautiful campus and a great place to get an education.

Western Carolina University is amazing!!…read more As I write this review I am a Junior. I love Western Carolina because ALL of the staff are really nice and respectful. The professors, janitors, student workers, peers... everyone! I have never had a professor here who was hard to deal with. Each are very unique and well experienced in what they teach. The first two years you must live on campus, which can be hard to adjust to, but in the end, gives you a great experience that will be worth the while. The campus is really beautiful and there are many things to do. The gym is really nice and it is two stories. There is a track, weight lifting equipment, treadmills and various cardio machines, a rock wall, and a basketball court which can double as a volleyball court. You can rent games or sports equipment with your cat card. Western also hosts tons of events like concerts, fairs, karaoke, etc... All of which are free to WCU students. The sporting events are also free to students because it is covered by the athletic fee. They are very cool to attend. Western Carolina is also very accessible to students and people with disabilities. We are the first school in the country to offer a University Participant program (UP), offering students with disabilities a chance to come to college for 2 years and gain college life experience. The program helps individuals to become more independent so that they can one day live on their own and have a job for themselves. The UP students are not separated from other students, rather, they are included in the mix with all other students and their classes. It's great! Let's talk tuition! Compared to other universities in North Carolina, Western is pretty cheap. We have NC promise which takes a lot off of tuition, and also, books here are free (very, very, few classes require out of pocket book fees) I have met out of state students who have come to Western because it is cheaper for them to pay out of state tuition here than it is for them to pay in state in their own states!

We took a tour of the campus. Our tour guides gave a 5 star tour. I was very impressed with their…read moreenthusiasm and knowledge of the campus. The campus is beautiful and it seems like a tight knit community. It is nestled in the beautiful mountains of NC. Schedule a tour!

They accepted me into my program, then when it came time to do internships I was not accepted BECAUSE I was a single parent. 2) I went thru a severely difficult time. An advisor (professor) in the college of missions, as well as an outside person who I was referred to by the college for mentoring, not only gossiped but also added to the severely difficult time I was going thru, rather than be any help. 3) After having to leave the college due to personal and financial hardship, which was also impacted by the 1st two points made above, I had a personal balance owed to the college - which I made arrangements to pay down directly to them. They turned the balance over to collections which doubled what I owed, regardless of my communication with them and commitment to pay. It wasn't any type of tremendous balance to the college, but it was for me (made worse by the collection fee that was added) while trying to survive the recession following 2009. I reached out to administration, thinking they might be willing to assist, they did not. I now owe a tremendous amount of student loan debt ($40k), in addition to the smaller personal debt, to Toccoa Falls College, which I believe is a enormous burden that goes against the Christian principals which they teach and promote. I am still doing my part, every day, to take care of my responsibilities regarding my debts, but they need to look at the negative impact and hardships they are putting on families, in a variety of ways, for the long-term.

Peaceful and open to the public (and free), the college's namesake is just a short walk on a level gravel trail to a beautiful vista. We were there pretty early in the morning, and there was not another soul in sight, student or otherwise. To find Toccoa Falls, just enter the campus at the main gate and follow the signs to the Gate House Cottage. Park in the cottage's lot, and enter through the wrought iron gates to the right of the front door as you're facing the building. There are a couple of benches that would be a perfect spot for a picnic lunch or to just to sit for a while to watch the falling water.
