Family lunch on a Sunday - not very busy- food arrived quite quickly however the meat in the burgers was lukewarm at best and one person took theirs back as it was completely cold. A serve of potato chips was delivered- however the person had ordered sweet potato chips- so the waitress took the meal back and returned shortly with the sweet potato chips instead - and then asked for $2 as the sweet potato chips are dearer than ordinary chips- are you serious!!! Unless this establishment lifts its service and quality of food, then they will definitely lose out to all the new restaurants at TTP read more

Awesome food. The burgers tasted great and we're cooked to perfection. Had a slight issue with one of our meals, brought it to the attention of staff and they replaced it straight away and even gave us a complimentary drink. The manager came out to check and he apologised, discovered it was my sons birthday and offered a complimentary dessert as well. Very unexpected and went above and beyond. Atmosphere is warm and rustic. An outdoor veranda eating area which is heated and comfortable. read more

Today the team were at The Pickled Duck. Ever since I've been writing this blog, I've had recommendations to visit The Pickled Duck. Today, as we found ourselves in the area we thought, why not? It was a strange time to be eating - 3.30pm. We had both missed lunch and didn't want to wait three hours or so for dinner but The Pickled Duck have all day dining so that was helpful! The first thing we noticed as we walked in was how large and clean the restaurant was. High ceilings and heavy wood featured in the decor giving us a relaxed, family style restaurant feeling. Maybe something Mike Brady from the Brady Bunch would have designed. It made us feel comfortable! We were given menus and told to come up to the bar when we were ready to order. The menu itself was simple and easy to understand. They mostly have burgers, pizza's and a few salads as well. They also had desserts on the menu, including dessert pizzas! From what I had heard, burgers were the specialty so I was eager to try one. Hubby decided to go for some sliders so that he could get a good idea of what a few different burgers would taste like. I think the slider option is a great one for exactly that reason and on this menu you were able to order as many as you want, starting from just one which is great if you have someone with a small appetite in your party. The restaurant is next to a bottle shop and they have a joining door which could prove to be handy. They encourage their diners to take advantage of the wine cellar where they showcase a fine collection of Australian and world renowned wines. They also have a unique selection of craft beers from some of the finest South Australian microbreweries. I did think there were lots of great options on the wine menu and ordered one of my favourites. I did feel a little disappointed when the meals came out. In retrospect, they were very filling and I'm sure the size would be big enough for the average diner but my first impression was that it was a little small. I ordered the Swiss Beef Burger. Beef, sautéed swiss mushrooms, caramelised onions, rocket, gorgonzola cheese sauce. It was such a tasty little package!! The meat was just gorgeously seasoned and the caramelised onions.. mmmm is there a more perfect combination? They weren't stingy on the muchrooms either and together, it was really a delight to eat. Hubby was both amused and horrified as he watched me trying to eat this with sauces dripping down my fingers and smeared on my face. But that's got to tell you that what you're eating is good right?? He made a really good choice ordering the four sliders. BEEF SLIDER- smoky BBQ onion jam PORK SLIDER- asian slaw, baja sauce DUCK SLIDER- pickled green onion, carrot slaw CHICKEN SLIDER -smashed avocado, rocket He started off with the pork slider. He said he found it a little dry but it was still very good and tasty. The next one he tried was the beef slider and that was such a brilliant explosion of taste in his mouth that he decided to keep that one till last. He loved the bbq sauce - He said it reminded him of bbq ribs. His third slider was the chicken slider. He said that was delicious also and was smothered in mayonnaise. Last of all was the duck slider. We had forgotten that was one of the options and as we don't often eat duck, were interested in how it would taste. Hubby said it was nice but not his favourite. I'm not into pickled onions in my burgers so I don't think I would have liked this one myself. We also ordered some wedges and I'm just mentioning them as surprisingly, we even had a little sour cream and chili left over after the wedges were gone... That never happens!! I liked that the server came to check on us to make sure everything was as we'd ordered. I had told him that I'd heard good things about this place and he said must have been because of his great service which I thought was a good response! All in all we had a nice time at The Pickled Duck. The food is definitely above average and you can tell they really care about what they're going to present you. Dessert options are decadent and great for a girls night out. Hmmmph when will something appear in the north east that is worth my time?! The Pickled Duck have a nice amount of seating and the atmosphere is not horrible. The menu is a vegetarians nightmare, and I am no vegetarian (excuse me don't label me) but my meat intake is low, lower than most, I selected the Italian pizza in a small without pancetta...one word BORING!! No flavour, with pizza the tomato sauce base is everything if it has no flavour you have cheese and bread....which for $14 is ridic!! Now on a busy Friday night I do not want to stand for 6 mins waiting to order only then to move to the bar and wait another 5 minutes there to order drinks. Lame. No I have guests waiting at a table I would like to get back to. I think this might be one of those places I may go for an afternoon beverage on a Sunday along with some sweet potato fries and well that's it. It was wishful thinking this place would be better and the north east would have something to put to its name. Sad. I gave this 2 because the atmosphere and size is good for families and large groups. read more

The decor is nice enough and seating generous, but the staff were unenthusiastic, the waiting time for food was long, and once I received my meal (veggie pizza) it was overcooked and bland. I loved the pickled duck! The new restaurant and lunch spot for the north east for sure! The Pickled Duck is very well spaced but does not have as much table room as you'd expect for such a large area. A bonus but also turn away! The modern decor and appearance for this fancy feast is appealing and sets the tone for the expectations. The outdoor seating is a popular place for people to sit and drink but once again limited in space! Now to the important bit. The food! All burgers are well sized but a serving of fries or snacks is a must! The salads could easily be shared by 2 people with a side of sliders! The food is prepared in a highly visible area with an awesome looking pizza oven sitting right in front of the counter! The dessert menu will have just about any sweet tooth craving for sweets. If you just wanted the desserts you could surely be forgiven. The staff are all friendly. Very young but friendly none the less! I would be inclined to give this awesome little treasure a try and enjoy it for yourself. read more

Great atmosphere and perfect for groups! The staff were very friendly and keen to help. They specialise in gourmet burgers and pizzas with a ripper dessert menu and loaded milkshakes! I had the Swiss beef burger (portobello mushroom, Gorgonzola sauce, rocket, caramelised onions and beef) - absolutely delicious!! To satisfy my sweet side I got the loaded choc Kit Kat milkshake - also delicious! A great lunch or dinner place - and on weekends they even have a brunch menu. read more

One of the newest cafe to enter the burger scene, owned by the same mob that runs the Modbury Plaza Hotel is The Pickled Duck (slang for drunken duck). Externally the use of black against wood keeps it on trend. A lot of the brick facade was kept as a feature throughout the premise. Minimalism is appreciated when good balance and colour selection is professionally utilised. The interior is also lovely; bright and airy. As with many new establishments, getting a table is challenging, especially if they do not offer a booking system. Luckily we found an end to a long bench, which we shared with strangers. No staff was free to greet us or offer us menus. Understandable, as it was bedlem and everyone looked busy. Hopefully the lack of service is only part of the "teething" problem with new eateries. The menu is very basic, boasting burgers, sliders and woodoven pizza options. We all decided on a burger each. Choices were The Pickled Duck, the Aussie Prime with additional bacon and the Classic Chicken, all served in a brioche bun (the most sinful kind!). Sides included onion rings and crinkled fries. All burgers was nice, nothing unique or interesting. Sides were good, well battered onion rings made for extra crunch. Personally, I think it is overpriced for what you get. It is just stock standard items that you can get in most pubs. Lastly, what drove me bonkers all evening was the noise! The acoustic is absolutely terrible. We spent all night screaming over other patrons. Because of this reason, we won't be back in a hurry, however, it is worth a gander for the curious ones. read more

Thank goodness I checked the website before calling as you can't book a table. Walk-ins only! As this was the case we decided to go early at 6pm. The place was packed up to the brim. There was a line for around 6 tables of 4+ people by 6:30pm. We were lucky enough to get a table, it was the share high table but we didn't mind. It was really loud inside, but the staff were very accommodating. Burgers were delicious and meals came out very quick for the amount of people that were already there. Dessert menu looked amazing. Would love to try that next time, would also like to come for breakfast. Nice views, very hip and nice deco. Love the idea that you can go select a bottle of wine from the bottle'o and pay $10 corkage and have it with your meal. Nice selection of beers available and prices were good. I've been twice months apart and both times had ridiculous waits. Most recently a Sunday morning brunch outing ended without our meals! We paid for our bacon and eggs and were told there'd be a 40 minute wait on meals - this was okay, as long as we got it in an hour or so there'd be plenty of time. By 11:15 (from a 10am booking) we didn't have our food and I questioned with the staff if it would be soon, as some of us had to leave to get to work. Yes he said we will fast track your table's meals. Unfortunately I saw 2 other tables complaining about the same time - and not all the meals can be 'fast tracked' at once. Another 15 minutes with no meals and I asked for my money back, as I really had to get going. Didn't seem as though the kitchen was prepared - I saw 1-2 pans on the heat at once, with 3 or so meals coming out every 5 minutes. One staff member seemed entirely dedicated to doing toast with a lot of standing around, which seems like a waste - surely he could monitor an oven tray of bacon too? At one point the head chef had to go to the back to refill the hollaindaise - a waitress/server/toast man could do this? I've worked in hospitality and these people were not hurrying as one should at a busy service. The first time I went was not far after opening so I ascribed this to teething problems, but this is just ridiculous. Additionally I have had family members go on a weekday lunch and had terribly long wait times. I strongly recommend the managers take a look into other kitchens and modify the structure - the staff cannot handle the service, either from being improperly utilised or a failure of kitchen equipment that limits their productivity. However, the coffee we were served was very nice and the waitresses on drinks were very good to deal with - the offered free coffee in compensation for the wait. read more

Despite these minor drawbacks, I would still gladly opt to go to The Pickled Duck for the atmosphere & menu options. The Pickled Duck puts a new spin on the classics - think Moroccan style burgers, Duck burgers, duck pizza, as well as catering to other more conservative tastes. Well worth the wait for a table! Try the sweet potato fries... Yum! The desserts are deliciously decadent - think rocky road pizza, churro sandwich, chocolate plate, and so on. All the meals are well presented, & the taste lives up to, or perhaps exceeds expectation. Although busy I didn't find my seating area too noisy, which was a bonus... Sunday morning breakfast with the family, including 3 young children, was an enjoyable experience with decadent milkshakes for the kids. Unfortunately the kids menu for breakfast didn't exist and the waffles were a major letdown especially when pancakes aren't on the menu. As much as the environment was fantastic we won't be back soon as the simple meals we purchased made for a very expensive morning. With a great atmosphere and a relaxed setting, The Pickled Duck seemed like a nice place to have a casual meal. After deciding to meet there for lunch with mum and one of her friends (who had suggested it initially), I was excited to finally check it out. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a lovely staff member who handed us our menus and told us to take a seat wherever we felt comfortable. The menu is reasonably priced - consisting of burgers, sides, salads, and pizza. We each decided on different burgers to try - I personally chose the veggie burger because I'm a big sucker for haloumi and avocado. Service was quick, and staff were incredibly friendly. The burger itself wasn't too great, the veggie patty fell apart and I ended up taking it out entirely and eating the burger without it. We decided to order chips & onion rings to snack on after our burgers while gossiping, and they were an incredible choice. Both were delicious, and I'd go back purely to reorder them along with a nice glass of wine with friends. The drinks menu is also A+, with an amazing selection. All in all, a very enjoyable experience and I am more than likely to return. read more

Sliders never seem to disappoint, sweet potato fries will be the death of me! Open plan, high sealing dining area's both indoors and out. Perfect for anyone, loved that its open all day but would be even better if your breakfast menu was too :) staff polite, good customer service skills, always happy to accommodate. Uniforms are clean, but would suggest waitresses/waiter's with long hair to be in a bun or braid as all had hair in ponytails which were close to dropping in food/drinks. read more

This is exactly what the north eastern suburbs needs.Whilst everyone seems to be focused on complaining about being unable to make a table booking, i have really enjoyed the fact that i can order lunch/dinner in mid afternoon rather than waiting for set times ti eat like all of the other resturants in this area. It is a wonderful addition to modbury. The burgers are delicious, wasabi and softshell crab on a black bun is my favourite dish. read more

Me and my friend decided to give this place a go after hearing about how good the place is. First of all the wait is ridiculous. We arrived at about 7, and didn't get a table until nearly 8. Once we got a table, things went a bit up hill from there. The service was quite decent, and the food was great, but definitely not worth the hype. I've been to places just after they opened with much less hype, and had much better food and service. It's quite expensive for what it is, expect to pay upwards of $30 a person. To sum it up, it's a nice place to go if you're around and not up for the travel to one of the better, cheaper burger joints or pizza places, and ready to wait up to an hour. read more

Don't bother. poor service and very average food. I went to the bar and greeted the female working there with a smile and "hello". Her response was "What are you after" No hello, smile or what can i get for you. I later ordered potato skins stuffed with pulled pork and my friend ordered chicken burger in a gluten free bun.
