Two months to the day before I started seeing Rob, I got shot. This was no little scrape or cut. I was transported to the ER in the back of an ambulance wearing a tourniquet situated just below my pelvis. My blood pressure was through the roof, my platelets were through the floor and a chunk of my thigh was missing. As soon as the bleeding stopped I was determined to get back to normal life. I began working out on my own and it seemed like I was making progress. That is, until I fell. I was in my house reaching for something next to the couch. I lost my balance and I crashed into the window. I am 32 years old and active; I've hiked 14ers and I've ascended the Manitou Incline. People like me don't just fall. Hitting the ground made it clear that my recovery was flawed and that I needed professional help. From the second I spoke with Rob, I knew that he understood my problem and could see the steps necessary for me to regain my confidence and mobility. Exactly 12 days and six sessions after first working together, I went from barely being able to climb the stairs to climbing to the top of St. Mary's Glacier outside of Idaho Springs! I have a 10-day Adirondack hiking trip planned at the end of September and I have no doubt that due to Rob's expertise and dedication, I'll be hiking in the mountains the entire time. I initially sought out Rob Lekan as a personal trainer because I was having knee pain from an unknown cause. Acupuncture, bodywork and chiropractic all helped temporarily, but then it would come right back. I suspected there was something wrong with my body mechanics that was putting added stress on my knees. I had also just finished my 4th year of graduate school and started my own business, which left little time to take care of myself. I was ready to get back in shape. The first session we talked about goals and started out with very simple exercises: crunches, bridge pose, stepping up onto blocks, stuff that we all think we know how to do. Nope. You don't. We went back to the basics to make sure I knew how to use every part of my body the right way. His exercises are less about how many reps you can do or how much weight you can use and more about how you do them to get the most effect and avoid injury. In just a few weeks my knee pain was reducing dramatically and my hips, back and abs were getting much stronger. Though weight-loss wasn't my main goal, I lost about 15 lbs and became much more lean and fit over the several months I worked with him. Most importantly, Rob was a compassionate and non-judgmental trainer who met me where I was physically and emotionally. He pushed me to my limits but never beyond, so I left each session feeling stronger and energized, not completely knocked out. He gives out weekly homework, which is a detailed description of a few exercises for you to do at home or at the gym between sessions. Sometimes he even incorporates bodywork into his sessions. Thanks to Rob I am not only pain-free, but also lighter and more comfortable in my body. I have a better awareness of my movements in my day-to-day life so that even when climbing stairs or sitting down in a chair I am more mindful of how I move my body order to prevent misuse. I found Rob online - I read a lot of reviews and then decided to set up a consultation. My main concerns were upper back strength and knee pain. Rob taught me to move differently - for example use quads/glutes rather than knees. I'm much more aware of how I walk up/down steps and it's been really helpful! He also pointed out imbalances that I had been aware of but was ignoring and taught me exercises to adjust. Now I am trying to correct bad habits and keep strengthening. Rob does amazing work! I feel so much better after each session. I was experiencing knee and hip pain; and in trying to avoid the pain I was using my body in a way that was exasperating the problem. He really understands the functioning of the body and did work to release the pain and has given me exercises to strengthen and use my body properly. The pain I feel in my abs when I laugh too hard, or the muscle soreness in my legs when I decide to take the stairs instead of the elevator is all because of Rob- which is a good thing since he is whipping me into shape! I've had the pleasure of training with Rob at HiFi Fitness for over a month now and I must say- he is the best trainer I have ever had! Yes I am sore for the next day or two but in the past month that I have trained with him I feel stronger and have noticed some definite changes in my arms and legs. Rob is incredibly observant and notices if you are struggling with some of the exercises and he will make changes to make sure that I am doing everything correctly. He is so observant that he also notices when something is too easy and he'll add more weight- so no slacking off on his time! I'm not a huge fan of the 'tough love' that other trainers seem to use and Rob definitely doesn't do that- he couldn't be nicer. His workouts are always different and it never gets boring since you do so many different exercises/machines in each session- the hour seems to fly by- even when I don't feel like working out at all. I came to Rob with an injury that I had misdiagnosed myself twice, an injury suffered just four days before I was set to run a 5k and a half marathon on back to back days. He is so incredibly patient with me and never makes me feel intimidated. More than just reasonable rates and general flexibility for scheduling, Rob is very thoughtful about developing - and tweaking - a routine that works for you and your body's idiosyncrasies. Although I'd been working out in a gym since college, it wasn't until I trained with Rob that I actually learned how to do a proper workout, with balanced exercised and actually thinking about things like balance and core and flexibility (vs. just how much I could bench press). His program includes guidance on nutrition, balance, form and overall lifestyle in addition to excellent personal training in the gym. I am a practicing dentist. He tailored my program with this in mind. The specific challenges that dentists face long term, such as back and neck problems, were addressed thoroughly. After my motorcycle accident in summer 2016, I sought out personal training to ease my shoulder pain.  In my first meeting with Rob, he carefully observed my movements and assessed that while my shoulder pain was increased by the accident, I also had general structural & strength imbalances due to years of favoring my right side, a result of being born with Cerebral Palsy, but also because I was flirting with obesity for years. The structural changes I was born with are still there, but since we worked together the differences have been greatly diminished.  Guided by Rob's extensive knowledge in both human physiology and eastern medicine, he was able to help clarify my goals and design a 10 week course for personal training and independent workouts, setting me on a path toward balance and health.  That was over a year ago.  I am still using the gym workouts and movements he taught me to supplement my other training in powerlifting and Krav Maga, but before I worked out with Rob, those activities were a pipe-dream.  Oh, and shoulder pain?  Non-existent. My husband and I were on the hunt for a trainer and the minute we met Rob we knew we had found the best! Rob listened to what we wanted and was able to create training programs that challenged us in exactly the ways we were hoping. He's not an in-your-face motivator, but he definitely didn't let us slack off... It's more difficult to say what Rob is than it is to say what he is not. He is not a trainer in the traditional sense. With Rob it is not about demanding a certain number of reps, sets, weights or miles from you. His philosophy is the opposite of "no pain no gain." It's more like, "less pain more gain" with Rob. You learn from Rob how to correctly move your body not only in the gym but in life to ensure you are able to accomplish whatever it is you want to achieve. For me, Rob is helping me achieve my goal of running again without knee pain (any pain whatsoever for that matter) after ACL replacement surgery. Within the first several weeks of working with him, I've had several "a-ha!" moments about listening to what my body is telling me, finding my abs! and proper running form that protects rather than impacts my knees. I feel each session with Rob and the assigned exercises are completely customized to my goal, my abilities and how I'm doing that particular day. If I'm tired or had too much wine the night before, he adjusts the session. After each session I walk out feeling taller, more aligned and have less pain. He's keenly perceptive and knows how to perform body work to eliminate pain. My goal is a 10K at the end of May. Wow, hard to really say enough good things about my sessions with Rob. Prior to seeing him, I was pretty much disabled from doing everyday tasks from carrying groceries inside, doing laundry, etc.. following several surgeries over 3 years ago. During that time, I had been relying primarily on trigger point shots, pain medication, and other forms of electro-shock therapy. Within just 5 sessions over several weeks with Rob, I was able to actually start living my life again. Instead of being laid up on the couch daily, I've begun taking almost daily bike rides again. Easily made more progress during my time with Rob than over 3 years using doctor prescribed activities and treatments. I found it was as simple as getting back to basics and re-discovering how to move CORRECTLY. He almost immediately recognized what would be most beneficial to me during the initial assessment, which happened to be trying to build the muscle back around the injury site.
