This is a classic newsagent in some ways, but it has several add-ons…read more There's the old fashioned penny sweets section for the children, its a lot of fun to see them ogling their sweeties while they're gazing at them with their little trays in hand. There's quite a big section of postage material, labels, envelopes, boxes and the like, and a really good variety of cards, magazines too. There's a kind of household section, more than you might think, cleaning materials, candles, the odd fusewire, that sort of thing - the sort of thing that if you've run out, you really need it. There's also a table in the middle filled with gift books and children's books, which could probably do very well for a late present you've forgotten to get. The post office is to one side of the shop, and keeps normal post office hours, more or less. For me, it doesn't have the atmosphere it once did, but I can tell from those around that actually other people still like it just fine.

They used to occupy one shop within the arcade, and when another became vacant - not even adjoining - they expanded into it. So, on view are two or three shop windows full of beautifully designed, handmade bridal and occasion wear. I often pass nearby, and I've often seen the lights on at very odd times of day, with a young woman and her mother sitting there talking to the staff. Consultations are unhurried and detailed. They need about four months to put a dress and a look together, and they really do do everything. When I was last in there, one of the members of staff was sitting quietly sewing a fascinator - those things that are a cross between a hat and a complicated hair ornament. They have a beautifully produced A4 booklet that enables you to take home the look, which also has quite a bit of help with wedding etiquette and so on. Beautiful, flexible, comfortable designs, with a huge amount of attention paid to detail.

Being based in the small retail park in…read moreHollingbury it's really easy to get to if you just want a couple of specific things and don't want the hassle of getting in to town. It's fairly a fairly big store with sections for men's, women's and children's clothes, as well as a small home wear section. I have to admit that I'm a little bored of Next clothes for myself as they seem to be a little predictable these days, however I do occasionally find something I like. My main reason for popping in here recently tends to be buying children's clothes or things like candles and smellies as gifts. It's also a handy place to pick up a gift card if you want something a little more classy than can be found in the nearby Asda!

There's also very speedy service here, with it only taking 1 minute for my product to turn up instead of the estimated 4 I was suggested at checkout. Being an extra, there's also those few extra items to pick up. You're probably better hitting Robert Dyas for a lot of the electrical goods you get here, or a dedicated retailer or Entertainment and electricals in my opinion, as they'll give you either the help with choosing you need, or just the extra value for money you won't find here.

That said, it is handy for particular household items where style isn't the top priority. They deal in practical items here and at a reasonable price. It's also fairly near my house so saves the trek into town when I can't be bothered with crowds.

It is such a joy in comparison to my other local supermarket! Fewer people for a start, everyone was fully dressed and nobody was screaming at their kids! Joking aside, yes its a little more expensive than some of its competitors but the quality of the food tends to be a lot better. Having it on my doorstep could end up being a little dangerous, both to the wallet and the waistline. It is has a cafe on site. I haven't popped in yet, but will certainly be doing so in the near future

This is probably the least customer friendly branch of Asda I've ever used…read more As it is open 24hrs I have shopped at all hours, and find problems whenever I go there. In fact I only use because it's on my way to/from work, and it's open 24hrs. I frequently find the shelves empty of want I'm after. Sometimes they are on the trolleys waiting to be put out, but more often than not, they don't have them. And whilst we're talking of the stock trolleys/roll-pallets, why do they have to leave them in the middle of the aisles? If you shop during the evening or at night, I is often impossible to actually go down some aisles because they are blocked by stock waiting to be put out. And the staff have a habit of standing and chatting amongst themselves totaly oblivious to the customers. Sometimes it takes saying excuse me a couple of times, or a quick jab with the trolley, to actually get them to move. And I would never buy anything frozen from them. I have seen, and been told by an ex-employee, that frozen products are sometimes left out waiting to be put in a freezer for longer than half an hour. However, they do have some good points such as being 24hrs. Also they do some weird offers. This week I have bought two packets of cereals for £2, when they are £2.15 each; and five Muller Lights for £1.00 when they are 54p each! Bargains! They also have a petrol station which is normally one of the cheapest in the area

Screaming children, people tottering around aimlessly with trolleys, a less then impressive food selection, I could go on! I can't decide whether it's ASDA I don't like, or just supermarkets in general! The staff always seem friendly enough, I have fond memories of being an ASDA checkout girl during one summer in my teens. I liked being chatty to the customers (I'm not sure whether that was encouraged or not!) But I always have a good natter with the checkout ladies. It can be pretty monotonous scanning food all day long. My other half likes to spend ages looking around the electricals section, some bargains to be had apparently! We didn't come home with a new TV or speaker set this time.
