M&S at its finest. New store with plenty of bargains with staff happy to help. Coffee shop available. Argos, Next and Matalan all next door.

This is probably the least customer friendly branch of Asda I've ever used…read more As it is open 24hrs I have shopped at all hours, and find problems whenever I go there. In fact I only use because it's on my way to/from work, and it's open 24hrs. I frequently find the shelves empty of want I'm after. Sometimes they are on the trolleys waiting to be put out, but more often than not, they don't have them. And whilst we're talking of the stock trolleys/roll-pallets, why do they have to leave them in the middle of the aisles? If you shop during the evening or at night, I is often impossible to actually go down some aisles because they are blocked by stock waiting to be put out. And the staff have a habit of standing and chatting amongst themselves totaly oblivious to the customers. Sometimes it takes saying excuse me a couple of times, or a quick jab with the trolley, to actually get them to move. And I would never buy anything frozen from them. I have seen, and been told by an ex-employee, that frozen products are sometimes left out waiting to be put in a freezer for longer than half an hour. However, they do have some good points such as being 24hrs. Also they do some weird offers. This week I have bought two packets of cereals for £2, when they are £2.15 each; and five Muller Lights for £1.00 when they are 54p each! Bargains! They also have a petrol station which is normally one of the cheapest in the area

Screaming children, people tottering around aimlessly with trolleys, a less then impressive food selection, I could go on! I can't decide whether it's ASDA I don't like, or just supermarkets in general! The staff always seem friendly enough, I have fond memories of being an ASDA checkout girl during one summer in my teens. I liked being chatty to the customers (I'm not sure whether that was encouraged or not!) But I always have a good natter with the checkout ladies. It can be pretty monotonous scanning food all day long. My other half likes to spend ages looking around the electricals section, some bargains to be had apparently! We didn't come home with a new TV or speaker set this time.

If you are familiar with 'Father Ted' there is a husband and wife who run a hardware shop who are so NICE when customers are in and then try to kill each other when the store is empty. The owners of this shop are just like the Father Ted couple (in that they are helpful, kind and always smiling) only with out the violence! I am impressed by how tidy, organized and well stocked this mini-market is. I also like the sweet little signs everywhere making recipe suggestions and how to use the specialist ingredients. The prices are good value with a range of offers such as buy 3 for £1 etc. The range of noodles is huge! There are Korean, Japanese, Chinese and more! I have discovered one type of lime and coconut flavour noodle that I would happily pay £4 for a bowl in Tokyo. And happily at this supermarket its only 39p! REALLY! With the demise of the Taj on the corner and the rumours of more BIG supermarkets coming to Kemptown Support these wee businesses. Or in just a few years St James Street will be another Western Road. In the 1 year I have lived in Brighton I have witnessed Tescos, Morrisons` and now Sainsburys arrive on the road! Time to think and support the local independent trader. Local shops like this one deserve our custom more than the BIG 4.

Extraordinarily good service. Possibly the best in the area. It's a pleasure to shop there…read more http://sevenstarshop.com/

What I do Love about this place, are the flap jacks... only 65p and slightly more filling than your average chocolate bar, these rule big time... And they come in a decent variety of flavours and all, so everyone's a winner! Also, if you're a bus goer, they frequently sell weekly tickets in discounted bundles here! I got 4 week saver tickets for £30 here once! That worked out as £7.50 a week, witch is a damn site better than £3.50 a day I can tell you... As you'd expect, these are constant demand though, so trying to be one of the lucky few is a constant ambition rather than a guarantee. Aside from food and travel, there's a nice selection of stationary on offer and a plethora of clothes adorned with Sussex Uni name and logo. Its also nice to know that money spent here helps make the uni a better place... Not much use if you're leaving or hate the place, but wonderful all the same!

The USSU shop has recently got a bit better, and now stocks a wider range of instant noodles (a student staple), drinks (even alcohol!), and stationary. They also stock Co-op ready meals such as sushi and wraps, which is pretty handy. And a lot can be said for the range of birthday cards, which are mostly designed by card makers local to Brighton & Hove. It can sometimes be a tad expensive in here, and they haven't quite learnt how to handle the queues at the beginning of the term, when students are all eager and willing to learn - it's much quieter after about 3 weeks of term time.

It shows how cheap Morrisons is that we managed to get three bags of groceries, pasta, rice, tomato sauce and so on for approx £32. The icing on the cake, is that lots of the store cupboard stables we bought were leading brands that would have cost 25-50% more at all of the above. So, why haven't I given it 4 stars? Well, the shop layout is ugly as sin and the small aisles means it's constantly busy. There's no parking and the tills are so jam-packed it's hard to pack your groceries without feeling rushed. The fresh meat, fish and bakery counters are also much smaller than at the main Morrisons supermarkets across the country. With so many bargains on offer however, it's unlikely many others customers will care or notice these misdemeanours.

As far as selection goes, Morissons has as much to offer as Sainsbury's, but the design of Morrisons must be more compact or efficient - it has the feel of a smaller grocer and doesn't take as long to manoeuvre through the aisles. Prices are reasonable - lower than Sainsbury's - and the Morrison line of foods (that also comes in a Smart Eating variety) is even cheaper. Produce is fantastic - apples so shiny they almost glow - and the fishmonger area smells authentically like the seaside. Staff members are alert and friendly, and sound genuinely interested in helping customers. Even the customers themselves seem a nicer bunch. The only downside is the queue length at checkout - yikes. Although, today might still have been showing the effects of the recent snow-melt. The spring time weather has everyone out, ready to fill their cupboards in case crazy snow happens again.

M&S Simply Food at Brighton Station is one of the few shops inside the station concourse, it is…read moreprobably one of the better places in the station to grab some to-go food and drinks ahead of a train journey, with rivals Superdrug and WHSmith barely having a food selection, and PRET being the only other place which sells food, but even then they sell a limited menu compared to other stores. This is pretty different from other M&S Simply Food stores as it is a travel store, they specialise in to go food and drinks at really high prices, as I recall a meal deal cost around £5 which is £1.50 more than a regular store, an increase of around 42.8%. I understand travel stores can cost more because of the location, but this seems to just take it a little step further, knowing there is little competition elsewhere in the station and it is from the Marks and Spencer brand, which has a reputation for being towards the higher-end scale for food anyway. The gluten-free selection was awful, they didn't have any wraps or pasta pots which stores usually have, they had two varieties of sandwiches, even then this is quite poor for a Marks and Spencer store, who have much more to choose from. I personally have a strong hate for seeded bread, which is why it frustrates me to see so many places only offering gluten-free sandwiches on seeded bread, and this location is sadly no different. A useful store, but they really do need to work on making pricing much more reasonable and stock of gluten-free items, which Marks and Spencer are usually pretty good here, so this branch is pretty rare in that sense. 2*

Well, if your train pulls in at Brighton Station you can pick up a roasted chicken, mashed potato and asparagus from the M&S Simply Food. They're open til 11pm every day except Sunday and also sell staples like bread, milk, yoghurt, fruit and juice. Of course, Marks and Spencer is always slightly more expensive than other grocery stores but the food is usually of such good quality it makes up for the extra pennies. If you're super-tired, you can also pick up muffins and coffee for breakfast the next day!
