The cafe has an indoor section and outdoor patio. The service was lovely and the owner was very friendly. The food was delightful and we were thinking this little community is blessed to have a place like this here. The menu is a cafe with a range of food from sandwiches to pizza to pasta. They have breakfast, deserts and drinks. We had photo error but actually had pasta and a superfood salad. The pasta was flavorful and used Spanish style chorizo. The superfood salad had yams, hummus, quinoa, various greens and I added chicken. It was bright and flavorful. The soup was a wonderful standout as was the treacle bread that came with it. It felt like home. The desert was a carrot cake with blueberries which was also remarkably light and the blueberry was a surprisingly beautiful addition. We can easily see why this place was a five! If you want a lovely stop off the N7, this is the stop for you.

Only had to wait about ten minutes before getting seated giving us some time to peruse the random things (hates, postcards, etc. ) they had for sale. We got fish and chips, mushroom soup and a turkey sandwich for lunch. Everything was terrific, I loved the soda bread that came with the soup especially. Warm and delicious with a little bitter spread on top. The service was great, very friendly and helpful. Definitely a gem and worth a stop if you're in the area! Don't forget to get a couple baked goods on your way out, the brownie was terrific!

Up until then, I'd avoided this establishment as I'd found it particularly expensive. I was sure there must be a catch. Usually, just a coffee costs more than that. Maybe, only one or two disgusting cakes that were about to go off were included in the offer. Since that fateful day, I've dragged (okay at that price, they came pretty willingly) three friends here, and I was pleasantly surprised to learn that there was no catch. One can enjoy tea or any type of coffee with any choice of cake (apart from the Gingerbread Man. No point trying to save him missus, a fox gets him in the end). Although the waitress was friendly, she was impatient for us to order quickly. With such a selection, I'd rather be left alone for a few minutes to make my mind up. Today, I was more in the mood for something savoury so I had the Shepherd's Pie with a selection of salads, which was very tasty. At €7.99, I still find the savoury food to be over priced. I ordered a coffee with my lunch. The helpful waitress pointed out that I may as well get a dessert. She then stared at me until I made a decision. I panicked and asked for a mince pie (even though I know I don't like them). Seen as we had a lot to catch up on, my friend bought us a couple more Americanos. She arrived back to the table, happy with her doggie bag of two mince pies. As long as this offer lasts, I'll be bringing everyone and anyone here. Nice on the wallet but not on the dress size, I'm sure...

Delicious coffee! (4/5 green stars) Bull Lane is a great…read morelittle delicatessen and café with very friendly and helpful staff. It's mostly designed to be a place to take food and drinks to go but it does have a counter and stools at the window. I picked up a flat white and a small Portuguese sweet cream tart. The espresso coffee was delicious, and the flat white was really well made. The coffee, from a traditional Italian roaster, is actually a 50:50 Arabica/Robusta beans and it blew away my misconception that you can't make good coffee with Robusta beans. The tart was interesting; the sweet cream was like dense sweet custard, rich with egg yolks. I'm not crazy about custardy things (why did you buy it then?!) but still enjoyed it! My brother goes there often, in particular for their Reuben sandwich, and highly recommends their savory food (along with the coffee!). They have just been has been nominated for Best Café Award in the Restaurants Association of Ireland - congrats folks! I'm also giving them 4/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact. They have a lot of healthy and vegetarian options and their food is made in-house, including condiments like chutneys, dressings and pickles. They source ingredients locally whenever possible; from either the green grocer next door or their own garden (the owners have a poly tunnel). They source their local cheese directly from makers or via Sheridan's and their bread is from a local artisan baker. They use free-range eggs, including some from hens belonging to a staff-member! Their coffee is from Portioli, and old family-run roaster from Milan. It's probably because Portioli are so old-school that they have nothing to say about their coffee sourcing practices and they also don't have any certifications (Organic, Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, etc.) so it's hard to judge for sure. Coffee aside, Bull Lane deserves kudos for making the effort to be independent from Big Food and intensive agriculture. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)
