We love Paws Gurus so much! Our dog Jugaad was at Paws Gurus for over three years, and she absolutely loved going there. We had a high energy dog, but even just a couple of days a week at Paws Gurus would make her so happy and calm her down for the rest of the week. We were so thankful that we were able to give our dog Jug a second place in the city where she felt absolutely at home with people she trusted, especially as she was a nervous dog. Other than regular daycare, Vera looked after her during a few trips we made out of the city where we couldn't take Jug - once even for two weeks when we had to go to India. We always came back to a happy and well-adjusted dog. The staff at Paws Gurus was also communicative whether through the day or over a longer stretch of time, and we felt completely comfortable leaving our dog in their hands! My dog, Natasha, has been going to Paw Gurus for 2 years now. It's her favorite place and she loves Vera! She plays all day with her friends and is always happy to go. Vera even throws birthday, halloween, and holiday parties for the dogs. Natasha has been to several daycares and this is her favorite by far. She has separation anxiety so she goes there almost everyday day since I work at an office. I've been bringing my dog to Paws Gurus for doggy daycare a few days a week for the last few years and they've been really great! I appreciate having a spot in the neighborhood that is convenient and cost effective compared to other options. It's fun to watch the dogs on their IG stories and while my old dog mostly naps while the other dogs run and play it's nice to know he has company and overtime I've seen an improvement in his interest in other dogs. My wife took our husky here once and she mentioned that Zeuse needs another bath and to get his nails done. But before she was able to bring him. She passed away at Mount Sinai las Saturday nigh. Frantically looking for somewhere to take him so I can lay her to rest I tried to plead my case to a very in compassionate unhelpful person I ask if he could get a bath and nails trim while he booked in to. And get this like it was a 5 star hotel but he must first go through some sort of screening process?? Ok I said why don't you let me bring him for spa treatment and you can assess him the. The funeral is Wednesday and Thursday. So she gives me some song and dance about how she can't no space or some nonsense. I mean really you go to a hotel you get spa treatment. Just called the funeral home. He's welcome to come with me there. I'll just go ahead and screw that place. read more

One of the worse dog boarding experiences I've ever had. I don't leave comments often on Yelp, but this was an experience I don't want any other dog owner to have. My husband and I brought our dog to Paws Guru to meet the staff and see what the facility was like. We have a very sweet Golden Retriever mix. The owner, Vera, was visibly annoyed when we asked if we could get a tour of the facilities as if this was an unreasonable request. They took some time to clean up the back area before allowing us to briefly look around. We later asked if we could board our dog over a holiday weekend, which Vera said would be at her apartment/house with a group of other dogs. When we arrived back to NYC after the holiday to pick up our dog, the pickup time kept getting pushed back. An hour and half had passed since the original pickup time and my husband couldn't pick our dog up anymore so I had to rush over from my appointment to pick up our dog. Vera was furious that it took us an extra 15 minutes from when she finally arrived to pickup our dog after she was over an hour and a half late - she threatened that if we weren't there within 5-10 minutes that she would drive away with our dog to be boarded one more night. I rushed to meet her and apologized for making her wait. As I walked up, the car was running in the middle of the street, our dog was sitting there with the car door open, she was at the door but our dog could have easily jumped into a busy New York street. Visibly frustrated, she quickly sped away after handing over our dog. As I walked our dog home, I noticed his urine was extremely dark, almost brown. When we got home, he drank almost 2 bowls of water. Vera was not only extremely unprofessional but we don't feel that our dog was adequately taken care of with her. We do not trust this business with our dog and will not be coming back. And after reading other comments, I know other people have had similar experiences. Please consider taking your dog to another business for grooming or boarding. read more

I highly recommend Paws Gurus and their staff for boarding and day care. We've been using their services for more than 2 years now. I think the best sign of how awesome this place is how happy and energized both of my dogs are whenever they come back from boarding and day care with Vera and their staff. Every time my dogs see Vera and other staff they can't contain their excitement. I have a shy small dachshund and a highly energetic and social black lab mix. They both seem to love it even though they have very different personality traits! The dogs are never in crates, they get to spend all of their day playing and socializing in a big open room and running around outside in their yard. This speaks volumes as to how amazing this place is for dogs. Scheduling appointments as well as pick ups with them are always easy, and Vera is very communicative and will always do everything posible to fit our schedules and needs. I tried a couple places before finding Paws Gurus to have my 95 lbs. Great Pyrenees mix groomed, and Paws is by far the BEST! They do an incredible job every time and then when I pick him up give me details about how he did, any areas that seemed sensitive, etc. They do a great job deshedding for an incredibly high-shedding breed, they do his nails, brush his teeth and trim his coat. I always recommend them to friends at the park who ask and highly recommend to anyone, especially people with long haired breeds that are a bit more difficult to groom! read more

WE LOVE PAWS GURUS! I first brought my dog, also known as Chief Chief to Paws Guru in January 2022. We live in The Bronx and its' so worth the travel it takes to get to East Harlem. We tried a daycare literally 8 minutes from our apartment, Malcolm wasn't haven't it. He tried to escape their gate every time and the way he would try to run out of there when I picked up, broke my heart. Paws Gurus from Day 1 has been totally different. He gets excited in the car on the way. Upon arrival, he rushes tothe door and scratches the door to let them know he has arrived. He doesn't look back when he enters. Here are the things I appreciate... 1. I TRUST Malcolm is safe. 2. I TRUST Malcolm will be fed HIS food the way I desire. 3. I TRUST the staff to engage with Malcolm throughout the day. 4. I trust Malcolm's mediciation will be administered as the vet prescribed. 5. I TRUST Malcolm has a good time. 6. I TRUST the daycare is open when they say they will be. 7. I TRUST I will be communicated with about anything that has happened throughout the day. I can't say enough about this place. As a single dog mom, it feels so good to have someone/ a place to help me with my Malcolm's care. read more

Unfortunately, my wife and I had an incredibly disappointing experience at The Paws Gurus yesterday. I reached out to the owner via email with the below information, and their appalling response is included below. Despite having taken our dog here once previously and having a good experience, our appointment started off badly and only got worse. When my wife and our dog arrived within 1 minute of the appointment time that was provided to us, the groomer upstairs expressed surprise that she was there and seemed frustrated to have her lunch interrupted. Her annoyance was noticeable enough that my wife even asked "is something wrong?" This groomer promptly stated that there wasn't any type of haircut that could be done for our dog, despite the fact that she has fairly long hair in several areas of her body and has had a haircut there in the past. She said that the only thing that could be done was to give her a bath. While this was surprising news to my wife, she decided to trust the process and leave our dog with the groomer anyway, because we had had a positive experience in the past and the groomer insisted she was going to give our dog the same treatment as last time. When we hadn't heard back after 3 hours, I called to check and was told that our dog had been very difficult to work with and had only just finished bathing and needed to be dried. (We have several neighbors who will vouch that our dog is incredibly sweet and calm, but my wife does agree that our was quite hesitant to go with the groomer. Hearing my wife's experience, I believe this was at least partly due to the way this groomer interacted with her.) After another hour, the groomer called back that our dog was ready to be picked up. When my wife arrived, the groomer was clearly very angry and our dog was standing in a pen that was covered with poop. While it is truly unfortunate that our dog pooped, and for that we apologize, I don't think anyone should be too surprised given that she was there for 4+ hours without the ability to go to the bathroom. In fact, when my wife asked if she had been taken out during her time there, the groomer was incredulous and said "Your dog was very difficult. You expected me to take her out?" My wife asked if she could take our dog out of the poop-covered pen while the groomer prepared the bill, and the groomer refused. My wife then asked AGAIN because our dog was clearly very anxious and she was concerned she would step or sit in the poop. The groomer AGAIN refused to get her out and wouldn't let my wife get her either. Our dog then backed up and sat down in a pile of the poop. When my wife told this to the groomer, the groomer repeatedly claimed that my wife was wrong and that she had merely "stepped" in the poop. When our dog got home, she very anxiously lapped up 2 full bowls of water as if she hadn't been given any water for the entire time she was there. So, at this point, we've paid $163 for grooming that resulted in a disrespectful groomer taking 4 hours to bathe her without giving her water or a potty break and letting her sit in poop afterwards. (Not to mention, no actual grooming, because apparently we have a breed of dog that has completely ungroomable hair some days and very groomable hair other days! Who knew!?!) I'm attaching a photo of the happy and groomed pup we picked up the last time we went as well as a photo taken yesterday for you to compare. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, so I reached out via email to give the owners of this shop the opportunity to make this right. This was their response, which I find almost as appalling as the way my wife was treated in person. Thomas, We did everything right and rightfully earned every penny we charge for a double coated breed her size, and went above and beyond for a pup who was extremely sturborn for everything. She was treated with the utmost patience, and caring compassion for a dog who resisted everything from going into the tub to a deshading shampoo and conditioning treatment with brusing, to the drying process when she tried to jump all the time. Given that she came in 2021 as per records and you were charged exactly the same price. Her butt area was trimmed as per her double coated breed specification. Her nails trimmed, ears cleaned, anal glands expressed and teeth brushed . It took longer than usual bc of the above which requires alot of patience and compassion to work on dog so stuborn, and for which all of our clients appreciate that of us. It may seems as though the pup was not given a chance to do her business #2, for which she had an accident as soon as she came upstairs to the waiting room. The wife claimed the pup soiled herself, however the paper towel I gave your wife came out crystal clean of any poop stains as the wife claimed. Wierd. Att, Vera read more

Vera runs the best boarding/day care/grooming facility in Manhattan by far. For the first 6 months I had been using Vera, she provided exceptional service and me and my dog were very happy with her. Then, I had to abruptly relocate overseas for my job and she took my dog in for over a month while I settled into my new location. For anyone who has ever had to relocate a dog to another country, you will know the arduous process that is involved and Vera assisted me step by step. From going out of her way to assist me in getting my dog vaccinated to facilitating the pick-up process, Vera demonstrated her care and professionalism. Incredible! I've had great experiences with this place. I've boarded my dog here for a few nights at a time when I've had to travel and couldn't arrange a sitter. The owner, Vera, is great. She spends time with and knows all the dogs personally and has been very communicative by email when I've had questions or needed to make special arrangements. She uploads videos of the dogs on their Instagram, so you can check in on them, which is great for peace of mind. The dogs aren't in crates or caged, they get to spend all day roaming free in a big open room, and also get a chance to run around outside in their enclosed yard. In order to leave your dog there for daycare or boarding, your dog has to pass a trial first, to ensure they're properly socialized, which also gives peace of mind that your dog's not going to get into fights when they're there. Vera has been caring for my Nugget for a few years now, and when she decided to take her dog-care to the next level and open The Paws Gurus, I couldn't be happier for her! She is attentive, caring, and loving with the dogs, and most importantly is reliable and communicative. I trust her with my baby inherently. I had had some other doggie day care experiences that were mixed-- I loved how happily tired Nugget would come home, but not the fact that he smelled like dog pee. I don't have that problem with The Paws Gurus at all! Nugget comes home clean and happily tired, smelling like the sweet clean little pup he is-- not other dogs or their pee. The facility itself is on the small side, but Vera ensures she takes the dogs out for walks regularly, she keeps it very clean, and the pups get their exercise playing!
