By the time we got home, both his eyes were red and he kept squinting. As the day went on it got worse -- by the evening he was hiding under furniture, wouldn't open one eye, and his face was wet from tearing. I've never seen him like that. I took him to an emergency vet that night. They diagnosed him with a corneal ulcer and sent us home with four prescriptions: ciprofloxacin drops, a triple antibiotic ointment, an ocular repair gel, and autologous serum eye drops they had to make from his own blood. He's on a 14-day treatment plan and needs a follow-up recheck.

My friend had to travel at short notice to visit ailing relatives and needed boarding for his…read more8-week-old male Australian Shepherd puppy. I was traveling with him, and our departure the next day depended entirely on making suitable arrangements for the dog. We needed care for 10 days, and with so little time to research options, we went with a recommendation from my trusted vet: Instinct Dog Behavior & Training. We reached out to person who identified herself as one of the co-owners, who offered to personally care for the puppy. Because he was too young to stay at the main facility, the plan was for her to keep him at her personal residence. We dropped him off at the East Harlem business location and headed home. My friend is very attached to his dog, and he even got an Uber back the same day just to bring the puppy's blanket. He left feeling reassured that the dog was in good hands. That night, my friend was already missing his puppy and asked for an update before bed, and she sent over some photos, which he shared in our group chat. At first glance they looked great. Almost too great. Anyone who has spent five minutes with an 8-week-old Aussie knows they never stand still, so my first thought was that she must be a remarkable trainer to get a puppy posed so perfectly. But looking closer, I noticed irregularities in the images, and they appeared to be AI generated. These were later confirmed to be AI generated. I want to be fair here. I don't believe there was any bad intent, and the puppy was returned to us in perfectly good condition. But sending what seemed to be AI-generated photos instead of a quick real snapshot was a lapse in judgment that undermined our trust at the worst possible moment. When you've handed over a very young puppy on short notice, an honest update matters more than a polished one. Given the circumstances, we felt more comfortable collecting the dog, and a refund was promptly issued, which we appreciated. With departure set for the following morning, there was no time to find replacement boarding, and the trip had to be cancelled entirely. Between the non-refundable bookings and rearranged plans, it turned into an expensive problem. Others clearly have good experiences here, and the co-owner was pleasant throughout. This just wasn't the right fit for us, and I'd encourage them to stick with real photos for owner updates, even imperfect ones. Honest beats perfect every time.

I started working with Angela when my 7.5-month-old pup, Vesuvius (a mix of Black Mouth Cur, Lab,…read morePit Bull, and Husky), was full of energy and still adjusting to life in Manhattan. He chewed my furniture, jumped on everyone, pulled the leash constantly, and tried to eat everything off the street. Since working with Angela, he's made huge progress in every area. While he's still a puppy and has his moments, he now pulls much less on walks, chews far less, and is generally much more obedient. Angela uses positive reinforcement, and Vesuvius absolutely loves seeing her -- his tail starts wagging the second she arrives. Beyond training, Angela is incredibly knowledgeable about dogs and shares valuable advice on health, products, and how to better understand the way dogs see the world. She's always punctual, caring, and checks in on him if he's not feeling well or if any issues come up. It's clear she truly loves what she does and genuinely cares about the dogs she works with. I highly recommend Angela -- she's made life with my pup so much easier and more enjoyable.

Long story short, they hurt my dog so bad in the mouth area that she wouldn't eat for 48 hours. I was outside and I heard my dog shriek. I came to see what had happened and my dog was walking out visibly in pain in the mouth area. She was whimpering while pawing the area of pain. Kelvin downplayed it and said nothing happened. I know something happened. I heard it. I ended up spending hundreds of dollars in hospital bills and the owner Nuria and Kelvin would not take responsibility. I understand accidents can happen but what really upset us is that Nuria and Kelvin kept denying anything happened, despite our repeated pleading to help diagnose the situation - and we (and the doctors) were having to take guesses in the dark. It's been one week since the injury and our dog is still not back to herself. I wonder whether she ever will be. They did refund the grooming, but I had to request it.

Despite this, she was approved for future boarding, even though she came home clearly traumatized - shut down, not going outside, and not peeing or pooping for nearly 24 hours. They called me repeatedly during work hours to discuss after I flagged the injury, and though I responded promptly via email and text, I was accused of being unresponsive. After requesting a refund for the vet bill, they stopped replying entirely. While they did refund the stay itself, their lack of accountability and care makes me question how much attention dogs truly receive at this facility. This review is meant to caution other dog owners - our dog deserved better.

I'm honestly disappointed to be here writing this review as I was very excited about this facility,…read morebut I feel like people need to know. My dog went for a board and train to work on loose leash walking, basic manners, impulse control, things like that. I filled out a survey with my training goals and was told I'd have a call with the trainers prior to the start of camp so we could better define the goals. That call never happened, and my emails with additional questions were ignored. I was also promised regular communications throughout the week: two training updates and daily photos. My second update came over 24 hours late and my dog was rarely in any of the photos taken during play time. Upon returning home, my dog had not gained much in the way of new skills but had developed a severe increase in leash-related human reactivity, which has not historically been a problem for him. I can't definitively say that FFA and their training methods caused this directly, but it's pretty hard for me to think of another likely explanation. Especially since it has now begun to subside as more time elapses from his stay at FFA. I was told that FFA believes in only using positive reinforcement training, but looking at videos of what transpired at camp tells me that their definition of R+ is a bit creative. I saw them using leash pressure (a form of negative feedback, and NOT R+) in multiple different training scenarios, something I specifically asked about on the phone prior to booking and a staff member assured me that was not something my dog would encounter. Overall, I'm incredibly frustrated to have spent so much money on what could have been a great experience for my sweet dog, only to learn I unintentionally traumatized him. I'm now spending more money with my local trainer who is truly R+ to reverse the damage done at FFA and we are making great progress, but we should never have had to work on this in the first place.
