Switchback Room. The window is too small to be used as a secondary form of egress.
    Laurie B.

We reserved the Switchback Room, not knowing that it is partially underground. As you can see from the pics I uploaded, there is no acceptable secondary form of egress from that room. The window is way too small and even if one managed to get out, there are bars on the outside. I agree with the former reviewer -the room does smell. The ceilings are also too low. Both the low ceiling and the lack of a sufficient window are definite code violations. Because of the low ceiling, the bathroom mirror was hung at a height that I required me to squat in order to use it (I am 5'8"). I was definitely a nervous wreck knowing that if there was a fire, we may not get out. The linens were a little beat up. The room was clean, though. I noticed afterwards that Maureen posted that there is WiFi but we were never offered a password. There is no cell service in the Switchback room -not surprising since it is like a cave. The location is great, Maureen was helpful with local activities, and the breakfast was excellent. We did not see any of the other rooms but If you decide to book here, do not stay in the Switchback room.

A perfect place to stay for a weekend! They offered the best breakfast in town! Micheal were absolutely nice and friendly. The bed was comfortable, and the room was very clean. The entire house was like a gallery. We enjoyed our time there, and we will definitely visit here again.

Good location, nice breakfast, but the room (the "Switchback") reeked of mildew. This was unacceptable.

We were greeted with a brief history of the town, and the house itself and were escorted to our rooms by Michael who assisted with our luggage. He provided a map of the town and outlined brief highlights and provided hours and restrictions (due to COVID). He even booked us a reservation for dinner on short notice. It is located in the most central portion of town, making it perfect for exploration of all the boutiques, restaurants, train rides, bike trails, and other attractions. The outlying area is filled with other attractions like hiking, white water rafting, and state parks within a short driving distance. Your hosts are more than willing to provide you with detailed recommendations based on exactly what you are looking for. The house itself is an architectural masterpiece, filled with eclectic art, antiques, and various collections each carrying a story if you're willing to indulge yourself, as they are part of their personal collection, reflecting their taste and experiences. Each of the guestrooms has a bit of a theme but is cohesive with the rest of the house. No hokey clutter here. Everything is very clean, and the attention to detail in every category is what makes this place shine. Breakfast is equally as exquisite. A multi-course experience that is unique each day, prepared by Jeffri. Everything is locally sourced, with some items coming from the gardens of the property. They are accommodating to dietary restrictions, which did not apply to us, but I am sure are equally as creative and impressive. The Dolon House is not just accommodation, it is an experience that highlights Michael and Jeffri's experience and successes in the hospitality industry. They deserve every kind word spoken around town, and every accolade they have achieved.

The murder mystery itself was the highlight, the storyline was engaging, and the actors were clearly well-trained in improv and very kind. Murder Mystery: 8/10 The room was fairly standard, what you'd expect in an old-timey house. No TV or modern extras, but there were plenty of charging outlets, which was appreciated. Room: 7/10 The food during the stay was incredibly disappointing. Most of it felt like reheated microwave meals. Breakfast included eggs, bacon (very thin, broken pieces), cubed potatoes that were oddly watery, ham slices, stale danishes, cereal cups, and a parfait option that had run out by our 9am time slot. Dinner was similar in quality. I chose the cheese ravioli, but despite being second in line, it was cold. The same watery potatoes from breakfast were served again, along with green beans. The only highlight was the coffee, which was good. Food: 2/10 Unfortunately, the parking situation is very poor. There are only 5-6 spots directly outside and a few more up the hill behind the carriage house. I was dropped off at check-in and informed staff that my boyfriend would be arriving late. I was assured there would be parking available and that staff would be present 24/7 to assist him. However, I woke up to a call from him saying he couldn't find parking. I went downstairs to get help, but no staff could be found. Not wanting to disturb other guests, I eventually gave up, and he had to park on the street in the neighborhood on top of the hill overnight. At breakfast, we were briefly told about additional parking behind the carriage house, but there was no apology or acknowledgment of the issue from the night before, nor any attempt to make it right. Parking: 1/10 The staff overall seemed inexperienced and, at times, unprofessional. While I empathize with younger staff members, there were several uncomfortable moments--such as hearing an employee joke about "killing" another staff member over a small mistake, and staff walking away mid-conversation while we were trying to ask follow-up questions. Staff: 4/10 Overall, there were some enjoyable elements, especially the murder mystery, but the experience didn't quite match the price point. With a few key improvements, this could be a much more worthwhile stay.

Just in time for Halloween!…read more Perched atop Packer Hill in the village of Jim Thorpe, this place was used as the model for the Haunted Mansion at Disney, whose interior is anything but spooky. After our tour at Asa Packer, he later built his son Harry a mansion next door as a wedding present in 1874. The mansion's impressive facade could have been taken from a Gothic novel, so much so that the building's design caught the eye of Disney Imagineers where my partner, his aunt, and I came to take some photos last Saturday. The Harry Packer Mansion Inn is open for lodging, tours on weekends, drinks at Libations Lounge, and, of course, murder mystery. Fifteen-foot ceilings, marble fireplaces, and gilded mirrors reflect the elegance of the Victorian Age. If you are in the area, it's a photo op.

The suite was spotless and beautifully furnished and had a very comfortable king-size bed. We received a gracious and warm welcome from the host when we arrived. First, let me start from the outside going in. The street that the Inn is located is so quaint and charming, we weren't even inside yet, and I knew it was going to be wonderful. Diane and Chris were fantastic hosts, gave us tips on where to eat and things to do. The Inn has a fireplace in the common area along with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate. Our suite was a great size, and I was very impressed with how clean it was. The mattress was very comfortable, and so was the couch in the sitting room. The in room breakfast was perfect! Stocked juices in the mini fridge, fresh yogurt with honey and berries, and ready on our table were granola, fruits, scones, muffins, biscotti and the most delicious cakes. We did not get into our car at all as everything was less than a 10 min walk away. We did the train ride, a show at the opera house, Big Creek tasting room, Myst, Molly Maguires, and shopping. When we come back to Jim Thorpe, and we will be back, Times House will be our place to stay! I'm already trying to arrange a friends trip for next fall!

We didn't have to hunt for parking, as they have designated spots for the bed and breakfast. Chris (one of the innkeepers) greeted us after we parked to offer assistance with luggage and show us to our room. We were staying in Serenity which was located on the third floor. The room was beautifully decorated and meticulously clean. A small table was already set with dishes for breakfast the next morning. Fresh baked goods, courtesy of Diane (the other innkeeper), as well as fresh fruit, homemade granola, and a refrigerator stocked with orange juice, apples juice, bottled water, creamers for coffee and yogurt were all provided for us to enjoy for breakfast at our convenience. Down in the main parlor there was also a side table set up with coffee, tea and hot cocoa. When housekeeping visited our room the next afternoon, everything was tidied up and the items we consumed were replenished. The room had a television with streaming ability. The location of Times House was perfect and we were able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. We did not have to visit our car again until our departure. My husband and I have already recommended Times House to several friends and plan to visit here again ourselves.
