The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research is South Florida's largest grassroots fundraising organization with over 20,000 members. The mission is creating A World Without Cancer! All funds raised at our events benefit Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. There, physicians & scientists work on groundbreaking research programs to eradicate all forms of cancer.
With other 50 chapters in Dade, Broward & Palm Beach counties, over $110,000,000 has been raised. This charity is named after Dr. George Papanicolaou, who diagnosed the Pap smear to detect cervical cancer. In 1961, Dr. Papanicolaou was invited to Miami to lead & develop the Institute which was renamed the Papanicolaou Cancer Research Institute. The cancer activists formally became The Papanicolaou Women's Corps, now known as The Pap Corps Champions for Cancer Research.
When Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center opened at the University of Miami Medical School in 1992, the Papanicolaou Laboratories were already located at the medical school campus. Throughout all of the growth, The Pap Corps has been raising funds for all types of cancer research.
