Set over three floors, Smacks is a great bar / club that sells a decent range of drinks at decent prices and has some fantastic Indie, Rock and Alternative music to boot. It's a relaxed place and it isn't filled with drunken chavs or pretentious idiots, just down to earth people who want to have a good night out. It's also one of the few places where all my girlfriends like to go on a girl's night out and between us, we have a very eclectic taste in music. This is a fab little bar and no night out in Burnley is complete without at least one drink in Smacks.

It's perhaps a more mature person's pub, although I'm a mere 25 years old and obviously appreciate the finer things in life. There's a phenomenal selection of beers and lagers which are quite reasonably priced and plenty of seating and sofas to relax with friends, enkoy a drink and catch up on some gossip. Incase the new name doesn't make it clear, Guys As Dolls is a gay bar, not that it means heterosexuals aren't welcome here. At least, I've never felt unwelcome when I've visited. Guys as Dolls is a friendly little pub which opens well into the small hours on weekend evenings and combines plenty of kitsch tunes to dance and sing along to with cabaret performances from some very convincing drag queens. As a single girl, Guys and Dolls perhaps isn't my favourite place for a night out since my chances of finding Mr Right are remote to say the least but it is still a fun and cheesy night out full of laughs and well worth a visit if you're in Burnley and looking for an alternative night out on town.

They always play really good music in here and the atmosphere is very welcoming. The staff are very friendly. This pub looks really smart inside. I think it has just recently done up but they have a done a very good job of making it look moderrn inside. It's not located in the town centre, but it's only a couple of minute's walk away and this does mean you're less likely to find drunken louts and fights breaking out. The pub is a bit old and tired inside but they have a nice open fire at this time of year and there's plenty of seating. Prices are reasonable and the atmosphere is nice for a chilled night out for a few drinks, especially if you appreciate decent live music.

It tends to be quiet and is what I would class as a 'drinker's pub' with enough regulars to keep the place in business but not the sort of atmosphere that is likely to attract many new customers. There is a pool table if you fancy trying your luck as a hustler but beyond that there is little to tempt me into this place. Fortunately, it's location on the way out of Burnley town centre means you're unlikely to inadvertently wander in and there are plenty more appealing pubs in the vicinity if you're in need of some refreshment.

The decor is a tad on the old and tired side but the pub really comes into its own when it comes to live music. During the Burnley Rhythm and Blues festival this is one of the best pubs to catch a wide range of bands and best of all it's free. Even outside of festival times, you'll often find live music at the Coach and Horses so despite the general averageness of this pub, it's worth a visit if you're a music fan looking for a good night out.
