Whenever we are in Old Town Temecula I always have to stop at the Painted Garden as they always have some unique garden decor things. While they are a little pricier on their garden sculptures from Mexico I'm willing to pay a little bit more since I'm not planning to go to Mexico anytime soon and these are usually things you can't find anywhere else. The Painted Garden is located in the heart of Old Tow Temecula. This really is one of a kind shopping experience. The owner has made this magical garden with steel art all sorts of stuff and all of it is for sale. I have never seen such well cared for succulents and cactus. I love the way the owner used the space. It is not huge, but everything you see is wonderful. The place is just beautiful and so relaxing. The prices are reasonable and they have such a selection. I love the Buddha they had there, but could not fit in my car with others with us. The service is really nice and the person I spoke with knew everything about every pant there, where the art came from and how to make your own magical space. It is worth a visit. Such a beautiful experience! Walking through and feasting your eyes on all of the different pieces created by artist, accompanied by the gorgeous flowers and succulents, is perfect for a sunny day. We moseyed around the garden and took in all of the creative art inspired by nature and were blown away by some of the designs. The staff was friendly and welcoming with the ability to answer any questions that you may have pertaining to the plants or art. First of all, DO NOT TAKE children into The Painted Garden!! I was with my daughter, my three year-old grandson. It is all outdoors. Some of the items/animals are made from cement and rock. They are very heavy. My grandson accidentally bumped the head of an alligator/crocodile that was sitting on a wrought iron table that had no center and it fell inside the ring of the table. My daughter picked it up, inspected it and put it back on the flimsy little table it was sitting on. No damage done. It fell about 10-12 inches. Immediately the employee/owner came over to inspect it. She picked it up, looked at it and set it back down on the flimsy little wrought iron table and walked away. We continued on our way out of The Painted Garden when the employee/owner came after us with the alligator/crocodile head in her hand stating it had a hairline fracture. She wanted $135 for it claiming nobody would buy it like that. It was made of a grey/brownish cement with rocks in it, that was it! It was an easy fix. If somebody hadn't pointed it out to you you would've never seen it. We don't know if the fracture wasn't already there before it got bumped. Actually, I don't think anyone would ever purchase such a thing for $135!! It took, maybe, $15-$20 worth of material to make it. The employee/owner was not very kind at all! Rather than make a scene we paid $100 for this ugly thing! There was not another soul in this outdoor store while we were there. Unintentional accidents happen. Any adult could've accidentally knocked this heavy piece over that was sitting on such a flimsy table... especially, a woman carrying a purse or a bag. The walkway was narrow in that area and the footing is made up of small, loose gravel pebbles, which is not the most stable footing for anyone. There are many lovely yard art items in this outdoor store, but they are very overpriced and you can find many similar items online and south of the border, for a lot less money. I'm just very disappointed in how this employee/owner handled this. No, I would not recommend this business to anyone ! Number one reason, the attitude and personality of the employee/owner, and the high priced items! The sad thing is that we had driven from Palm Springs in hours of traffic for a medical appointment for my grandson. $100 means a lot to a young family seeking medical care for their child! But, I'm thinking this store the painted garden probably hadn't had a sale all week and she needed the $100 more than my daughter and grandson. I just hope she's real happy. I just had to come back to my review and add a little more. I did not read the reviews that others had written before I wrote my review. I see that this owner is pretty void of personality, which is what I thought, and does not appear to be kid friendly in any way from what I've read in the reviews below mine. It is a cash only store with very expensive items. So if you plan to purchase, bring a lot of cash with you. Today people don't usually carry a lot of cash. read more

Was shocked by how the owner body shamed a young girl. We saw this store and excitedly walked in. We had picked out nearly $500 of items we wanted and loved. As we shopped, there were some young girls being typical teenagers and they started taking pictures of each other in and around the outdoor store. One of the girls was wearing a very short skirt. Whatever, her body, her choice. We didn't even notice (why would we???) until the owner made a big deal out of it. We started to hear the owner talk with another customer and they were STARING AT A TEENAGERS BUTT and commenting. THEY were the ones being creepy. What happened next? The owner walked up to the girls and said "Why don't you take a picture of YOUR BUTT!" We were so shocked and grossed out by this woman. She was the one body shaming and sexualizing the teen. The girl was enjoying taking pictures with her friends. If she was so offended, she could have simply asked for them to leave. Instead, she chose to spend the last hour of her day by shaming a young girl and embarrassing her in front of the other customers. Gross. Creepy. Weird. So we walked our way to the next garden stores and they ended up having way better quality items anyway. read more

This place was so cute! My family and I were just touring down town Temecula and we all wandered into this magic, little space. They sell lots of plants and cacti. The outside area was so cute, with lots of metal trinkets and garden items for the yard. It was rainy when we went, so we didn't stay long, but there were the biggest iron-looking statues for the yard. read more

It was like walking through the "Land of Oz!" My cuz & I were doing some window shopping in downtown historic Temecula, and from across the street the enticing entrance caught my eye. My cuz told me that her brother was a huge fan of this store. That's all my ears had to hear...I was quickly crossing the street so I could look at everything!!!! We were immediately greeted by Rachael standing behind the counter with the most beautiful smile! She runs it with her mama Lorena who has owned it for 22 years. I really enjoyed all of the colorful planters, plants and garden accessories! She took the time to get to know us and tell us about some of the plants and how they grow. Very much appreciated!!!! Worth visiting this shop and I highly recommend taking your time perusing around the garden path from start to finish. Something wonderful was purposely placed/planted to be discovered by a potential buyer. We walked out with 4 plants that hopefully will blossom with our brown thumbs! Lol!!! Can't wait to go back. I highly recommend this garden shop. It's a family owned small business. They have so many different amazing plants and garden decor. The small plants in the front like "the pink lady turtle vine" and the "tigers jaw" would be on sale for like 2 for $10. The tigers jaws are beautiful succulents because they open and close depending on the position of the sun. It's pretty spectacular. Lorena is the owner and she's very sweet & kind. I stumbled upon this garden while walking my dog in Old Town and I met this kind young lady named Rachael working the counter. She sent me home with a free plant and told me to stop by and bring my dog anytime. We became really good friends and I spent a lot of time in this garden with her. This is truly a fun spot right on Old Town Front Street in Temecula, California. What they offer is a wide variety of novelty items that are great for outdoor patio settings or indoors. The kind of things they offer are bright, colorful painted metal flowers, statues of the Buddha, planters, and all of that kind of stuff that maybe you can find in other places but you certainly cannot find such a fast selection of in any other one location. I've been lucky enough to go to this place when they are open, and are open for free I am told that generally they charge a fee to go in here. I imagine this is due to the fact that so many people just wander in, drawn in by the colorful items. One way or the other, this is a fun place to go shopping if you are looking for that unique item that you may want to place on your patio, in your den, or maybe near your pool. By far the best small owned garden I've ever been too. The woman who owns this place is incredibly knowledgeable and insanely kind!! I bough 2 succulents and she told me everything I needed to know to help them thrive. She even gave me a free plant from her ICU and a few free clippings (one was of a plant I've been searching for) She was so genuinely nice without any expectations back, a reminder of the good left in the world. She also had a super old ripped up book with beautiful pictures of succulents in it, I would die for it! But sadly the cover was ripped off. If you enjoy having houseplants, you'll probably find yourself buying too many. And if you don't enjoy plants yet, you may find yourself starting to! The Painted Garden is one of the shops I like to wonder through in Old Town Temecula. Living in the southwest, it's sometimes hard to find tasteful ordainments for the desert-scape backyards. I have problem with bird fountains, and some of these can be over the top. But Painted Garden has style and classy selections, included a recorded number of Buddhas. From colorful clay pots to tiny ants made of metal, this place never ceases to amaze me with cuteness. As far as I know, almost everything is for sale. There's usually one employee working and she's very friendly. She loves the art and sharing it with others. This place is kid friendly but ask that you please be respectful. They ask you don't allow your children to run wild touching things, for good reason. Each time we stroll through with my son it's so cute to watch him in aww as he admires the colors around. If you ever find yourself in Old town, I suggest taking a stroll through this unique garden and picking up a fun piece for yourself or a friend. This place is amazing. I've been here quite a few times now. My grandma and I both love succulents and I wanted to bring her for a while. We went today not knowing it was supposed to be her day off and she was sweet enough to open for us just long enough for each of us to grab our favorite plants! Have you ever had an instance where you could have SWORE you had posted a Yelp for a place...maybe you even remember doing it...and then when you look at the entry for the place, its not there? Not even in the "filtered" section? This is one such place for me. I thought for sure I'd reviewed it but alas... Time to fix that! The Painted Garden is a spot in Temecula;s Old Town Front Street that the wife makes a point to visit whenever we're in the area. She loves garden art and statuary, and this place features that in abundance. The inventory is mainly from artists in Mexico and Central America and are usually brightly colored and sometimes even whimsical in design. The shop itself is an outside affair that kind of winds in and around from one area to another. I'll be honest. This shop isn't too extravagant. Their selection is nice and their prices are so-so. We've not encountered any unpleasantness with the owner that some other Yelpers have (yet, anyway). However I must point out that this is a cash-only place. That's a little off-putting. Especially in 2015 when you can get a Square Reader for your smartphone or tablet for free, and there's free WiFi all along Front Street to use for it. It seems a little customer-backwards in my opinion. Still and all - we have a few lovely pieces from this shop in our garden and in the outside-front entry way of our home. Its worth a visit if your in the area. Keep an open mind for sure - but do be wary of what the other Yelpers have had to say; and if your experience is as unpleasant at theirs then by all means...Yelp about it! read more

I went back into my purse to pull out my wallet again to pay in cash. It took me about a minute because I didn't except to pay in cash. Such a unique and inspiring garden. Mermaids, lobsters, turtles and flowers abound. The colors are vibrant, the atmosphere is serene. Lorena and her staff are more than courteous.
