They seem to always have 4 ales on, including at least one light and one dark beer, and 4 real ciders, fetched from the cellar by friendly and knowledgable staff (usually the landlord). The tasting glasses are tiny beer mugs, which is a nice touch. The main seating can get uncomfortable after a while so it tends to be a place to stop off for one or two pints rather than somewhere to camp out for the night, probably a good thing as it only fits about 20 people so without the turnover you'd never get in.

The wait staff is outstanding here and very friendly! The selection of beers is perhaps a bit limited when compared to other places, but I had no trouble finding one which I liked. The food is also outstanding... perhaps the best chips I've ever had! (I'm told they are cooked twice...) I've been here for Lunch & Dinner and enjoyed each time and clearly this will be a must come to place each time I visit Sheffield.

It is located in the Cornerhouse (Cinema, Casino, Bar, Restaurant complex) at Nottingham and so is surrounded by other good places to make a pub crawl that little bit easier! They serve food here aswell as being a decent nighttime bar venue. I would recommened that eating food here is probably a nicer experience during the day, simply because it is quieter and more of a restaurant/cafe feel than at night when they are more likely to be people just out for drinks. The people who come into here tend to be 30's + as it has a more grown up feel to it than some of the more lively places in Nottingham. Good selection of beers to choose from too and some very good red wines, although as with most wine these days it can certainly cost you.

I have to stress that I used to be a very big fan of this restaurant and was really excited when I…read morefound out they were giving it an overhaul and as soon as my schedule was free, me and my partner went for a meal. It was a bit of an anti climax I have to say. While the overall appearance and atmosphere was still fantastic, even better now refurbished, the service and food was less than expected. Myself and my partner waited at the bar to be taken to our table as we had already booked our table and the restaurant was relatively busy... but the bar wasn't. I usually point out if something isn't up to my expectations and my partner always teases me for this but even he was shocked at how long we had to wait. Once we were at our table our drinks and food were served quickly and piping hot which was great but I have to say the menu is unusual. A few people I've talked to about it have been a bit confused. My partner ordered the smothered chicken which came with chips and... buttered asparagus. I don't know if its just me but that seems like a bit of a weird thing to put with that meal. I chose the macaroni and cheese with pulled pork in tabasco sauce. The other option was with lobster tail but I've never tried lobster tail and wasn't in the mood to be trying anything new so went for the pork even though I was slightly unsure about the tabasco sauce. I was right. It is such a strange thing to put with macaroni and cheese, and it was more the fact it was plonked on top of my macaroni and cheese, would have much preferred having it on the side and being able to eat them together if I wanted to. About halfway through my dish I just stopped eating because the taste was just too weird. Overall not a bad place, i just think they're trying to be a little more different than they need to be, I would still definitely go again to see how things pan out!

So ringing to rearrange always makes me a little nervous (I hate being a pain in the bum). But the conversation I had with the Harts representative was so reassuring that I immediately felt comfortable with my new booking. We were also staying at the hotel that weekend (which I will also review) and had a pre-dinner drink in the bar (which again was fantastic) and was a perfect start to the evening. Arriving at the restaurant (if I'm completely honest) I was a little disappointed with the décor. It reminds me very much of a fine dining establishment in America... which I personally think is quite an old fashioned take on being "modern". But none of that matters when you receive the service and the standard of food that we received that evening. I started with the tuna cerviche. It was garnished well with coriander making the dish light and refreshing. The tuna was absolutely delicious and sometimes I avoid it because it can have a jelly-like texture which I don't enjoy at all. But this was perfect. I then opted for a sirloin main course, and my, oh my, it was one of the tastiest pieces of meat I've ever eaten (and I do love a steak). It was cooked to perfection and exactly as I'd asked for it. Juicy, tender meat served with thrice cooked chips, roasted veggies and a sauce that was sweet and rich. The sauce was actually so yummy that I asked for more so I could dip my chips in it (you can take the girl out of Stoke, but you can't take Stoke out of the girl). We then had a melt in the middle chocolate fondant, with pistachio ice cream. Now this was where the service could have gone terribly, but it didn't. We ordered two desserts and the waiter had misheard us. When one dessert arrived with two spoons, the waiter immediately came to us and apologised profusely. Now I was already stuffed at this point and was ready to cancel the dessert anyway, but the manager then arrived to explain that the dessert was on it's way and would not be added to the bill along with two complimentary glasses of champagne. Now that is service. We were made to feel welcome and looked after in a professional yet friendly way. The little stumble at the end of the meal could have been a disaster in some establishments, but at Harts it just proved that everything is done with grace and expertise. Harts will certainly have my heart for a while.

The restaurant wasn't super busy, but the ambiance was comfortable and despite the fact that we were probably much louder than any other table there it didn't feel like we were disturbing the peace the way it sometimes does in nice restaurants. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable. Our drinks orders were taken immediately and the service was attentive but not over-bearing. My brother's girlfriend is vegetarian which usually means she has the option of only 1 or 2 dishes on the menu, but Hart's had a separate vegetarian menu they brought for her which had about 10 dishes on it- again a sign of the excellent service. It sucks when vegetarians are treated like second-class citizens and Hart's was quite the opposite. The food itself was excellent. I ordered the game terrine followed by the sea bream from the set menu (they had no problem with my mixing and matching, which is always nice). Both were delicious. I also tasted the mushroom fricassee starter which was great, and the venison for main course which was truly delicious. The only downside was that they had run out of 2 dishes - I assume because it was right after Christmas and they weren't expecting a busy night. Definitely a disappointment, however, when we mentioned that we were really disappointed that there was no calve's liver left because the person who had wanted it had never tried it before, they actually brought out a small taste of the dish for him to try - in addition to his main course and at no charge. Again, another sign of the excellent service. All in all, a great experience and if you want to have a nice dinner with great service, I can recommend no place more highly than Hart's.
