On the other side was my father in law and myself going in to watch the football on the Saturday night and finding quite a few show off drunkard locals who were fairly openly racist and made the viewing of the match fairly unpleasant. The landlord seemed friendly when chatting to him at the bar but this isn't somewhere I'd regularly go if it wasn't the only pub in the village showing the match.

Only open a couple of days a week - at the weekend - it serves quite reasonable food and fantastic beer - personally I love the absolution. The landlord is usually to be found drinking a bowl of tea in the bar by the fire with his whippets and reading the Telegraph. I wish it was my local great way to spend a Saturday lunchtime in the middle of a days walking! Be warned though it doesn't suit everyone though for the life of me don't know why!!

Super tasty quality food, I noticed that on the menu it even tells you which farm the meat came from, or where the ice cream was made etc. The Greek Lamb and the Gammon are both brilliant. The portions are huge and I'm always left with enough food for another meal but save room for the Holly Bush sundae because you wont ever have a such a selection of tasty locally made ice cream :) The prices are great too, last time I went it was around 30quid for the 2 of us.

During our visit we ate in the restaurant several times. The Fish n Chips were fabulous, very tasty and not greasy. The Toad in the Hole was another favorite and a new experience for this American. The Sunday Roast was second to none. The owners, Diane and Phil, are very hands on with their business and are delightful to speak with. When we are back in the area, I know where we will be staying.

Popped in on the way back from a cold day out at Alton Towers…read more We got a lovely warm welcome, were quickly seated near a roaring fireplace and settled in for a great meal accompanied by some very well kept Hartington IPA. The pub is cosy and friendly, and in a great location for walkers and cyclists on the Tissington trail.
