My kids have always loved this place, but we went in a couple of nights ago and dont know if we are ever going back. There was a really rude waiter, didn't get his name, but was probably around highschool-college age. He was rude to the kids and came to our table twice the whole night. Came here for a meal, left enlightened on the idea of allowing natural selection to take its course. Came in for a nice meal, it took a hot minute for our waitress to show up at the table, which is understandable as it was a busy night. Our complete order wasn't terribly difficult yet we watched as a number of tables that were seated recieved their food first even after they had ordered almost 15 minutes after our order was put in. With such a long wait our food undeniably should have come out absolutely pristine however there are no rocket scientists that are employed here as wait staff or fryer monkeys. Most of the united states workforce is required to have a high school diploma or a GED, however i was unaware that if it was written in yellow crayon on a white piece of paper it still counted. So perhaps i will create my own PhD to become an astrophysicist. Long story short, checking the intelligence of your staff as well as competence could go a long way. Also, I apologize for the prior remarks although as it is probably an insult for me to call them monkeys as primates are far smarter than the crew working at the other place. read more

The server was really rude and crabby , she was aggressively setting down the drinks and taking them to get refiled. The drinks tasted weird and not like what they were supposed to taste like, after I drank my drink my stomach started feeling weird and it just wasn't good. The staff here is very rude. The hostess obviously did not want to be there and she did not seem to care. The server was worse. A person dining with me has a severe allergy and when she asked the server to check the ingredients, the server simply wouldn't do it. On top of that, she had an attitude and a snarky facial expression the whole time. The entire table of 4 had to ask her 3 times to check before she sighed and walked to do it. At that point we realized that we would not have trusted her answer given her response to a serious issue so we left. On the way out I told the hostess about what we experienced and the hostess seemed unsurprised which leads me to believe that this behavior is an ongoing issue. It was busy and I can understand a server being in a rush after a long night, but to treat a serious medical issue as an inconvenience is simply unacceptable. Very disappointed. read more

Awesome pizza that I go out of my way to pick up! Found this gem on a roadtrip through Iowa, and really enjoyed the food. The new york cheese steak sandwhich was excellent, as was the meat pizza. They really do pile on the cheese on the pizza so be ready for that. As far as pizza goes, this is great stuff, with tons and tons of toppings, and a nice thick crust. They have 1919 root beer on tap, which is quite a treat when they put it into a frosty mug for you. Overall, great pie, kind of a dingy environment, but its Iowa, right?! read more

As someone who can't eat gluten, but is fully aware of potential cross contamination in a small place like this, they are completely unwilling to work with me. And it is not like there are options when you are there from out of town. They simple said we don't have anything. And when I tried to see about a plain hamburger or salad, she just shook her head and said we can't serve you. Waited fifteen minutes for someone to come over and acknowledge that we were there. Got tired of waiting and left.

We had a large party trying to get carryout on a Friday night in the middle of a dinner rush, and they had all 18 orders ready on time, (with no mistakes!), and they helped me carry it all out to the car. This is not my first time at this establishment. Growing up in Waverly you could say The OP was my second home. My parents took me here weekly to eat. Why? Free popcorn at this location. Parents dream that there's something to feed the kids right away. As an adult you can't help but eat a couple bowls of fresh popped popcorn while you wait for your meal to arrive. This particular visit we had a large group. Probably a dozen. It was a week night so the place was not overly busy. We were seated all together and the waitress was wonderful. She kept good tabs on us, got our drinks and orders quickly. I love their pizza but their sandwiches are also delicious. The ambiance is bar-like. Lots of tvs with various sporting events playing, full bar, booths and tables. The bathrooms were remodeled since my last visit and were clean. The outside of the building hasn't changed since I was a kid. Doesn't do justice to the treasure that lies within. read more

The service is pretty bad during lunch. I've been the only one in there and been ignored for a long period of time. Sometimes when I've ordered food she'll just look at me like I'm crazy for choosing what I ordered. The food has never been something to write home about, and they don't deliver either. Last night went to the OP for pizza. We ordered the chicken alfredo pizza, which we have had many times from this and other OP's. This one was very different. It was topped with some seasoning we have never seen before. It was extremely oily and the alfredo sauce tasted bad. This is not what we are used to when ordering. We each ate one piece and had no desire to eat any more of it. To their credit (and reason for the second star), we did not get charged for the pizza and the manager informed us that "the bossman" wanted it made this new way. "The Bossman" doesn't know pizza. What we had was terrible, and virtually inedible. They are known for pizza, and over the years, I have had dozens of them. Something is changing and it isnt for the better. read more

Every college town has a place like O.P. II. Dark wood panneling, cheap lighting fixtures, vinyl booths with Formica table tops; you get the picture. Our server came with little personality and was not all that well versed when it came to the menu. Small salads were just like you could get anywhere else. The small lasagna was just o.k. too. All-in-all you could get a lasagna just as good in the freezer section of your local grocery store. The beer was cold, and the popcorn free on the plus side. My advise, find another restaurant.... But to be fair it is a pizza parlor and we did not have pizza. Perhaps we just missed out. read more

My family and I have been going to the OP for years. A big fan of their pizza and bread sticks! As far as staff, it's a luck of the draw. They have several "veteran" servers who have been there for a while and know what they're doing. However they also hire a lot of new servers with Wartburg College being right across the street. With that, you get inexperienced college kids who in turn lack basic service skills. In all, definitely a place to check out. If not for the pizza, for the cold beer and free popcorn! read more

Pizza here was pretty mediocre, one person in our group commented that the crust tasted like it had been trucked in from somewhere. However, I came here during RAGBRAI and the pizza was like mana from heaven to me. Service is friendly though, and they were quick with the Diet Dew refills! Went in for dinner today and was told that they would not seat us because they were short 2 wait staff. They had numerous tables opened. I asked to be seated at a table and I would go to the bar to get my own drinks. Hostess went and talked with manger and he said they would not seat us and we would have to stand and wait.
