I rarely leave negative reviews, but my experience with the accountant was so appalling that I feel…read moreobligated to warn others about Gerald F Paolilli. I contacted him with a few reasonable questions about my return that he prepared. I was immediately met with passive aggressive attitude, condescending comments, and a complete lack of professionalism. Rather than answering basic questions, I was told to "go elsewhere" and also to hurry up and pay the invoice. I wasn't being difficult, I just wanted to understand few things. Apparently, that's too much to ask this accountant (who is clearly a miserable person). I have never been treated with such blatant disrespect by a so-called professional. It's honestly shocking that someone like this is running a business. If you're looking for an accountant who is patient, respectful, and willing to communicate, I strongly suggest you look elsewhere. Avoid Gerald F Paolilli at all costs if you value being treated like a human being.

He is incredibly intelligent and responsive, I was sending him emails, in no time I was receiving the reply, on weekends or holidays, if it is urgent and sensitive, for sure he responds to your needs immediately. Douglas made the home selling process for a first time substantially easier and much less stressful in this difficult time.

I am VERY disappointed in the inadequate services when I refinanced my condo in 2016. My original…read moremortgage was through Mass Housing, and included 2 loans as part of a first-time homebuyers program. They neglected to discharge BOTH mortgages that I had, which I was made aware of now that we are selling the condo and buying our dream house. I've been trying to get this resolved for 2 WEEKS - with no results. Their closings team has been good at responding to let me know they are working on it, and has been very nice, but has not understood the level of urgency and that time is of the essence. Since we are closing in WEEKS, I had to escalate this myself...and after LOTS of redirecting phone calls, I finally got Mass Housing to help me. I cannot believe the ineptitude of their services - how can you pay off TWO mortgages, but only discharge ONE?!?!?! Be warned - if you hire this law firm, be prepared to double check to make sure they ACTUALLY finish the job.

TLDR: Unresponsive, not accurate, rude, and would have cost us thousands…read more This was the worst tax experience of my life. John was very short via email if he replied at all. In addition: 1) He made an error on our HSA contributions that only we found. When pointed out all he did was send an updated return and no acknowledgement. 2) He did not enter the cost basis correctly on Employee Stock Transactions and if we did not point it out it would have cost us thousands of extra $ in taxes. No apology or explanation just updated the return. 3) He never confirmed when the return was filed. While we were out of the country on April 15th he would not respond to emails. When we finally got a hold of him on the phone he said he receives too many emails to reply and this is how he does business. I would not use him unless you have a very simple return and trust that it is right without combing through many pages of returns with no help from John.

John Costello has been preparing my tax returns for too many years to mention …read more Around June 20, 2021, I received a letter from the IRS stating that they needed more information to process the return. The listed what they needed: a copy of pages 1 and 2 of my return, amounts and dates of all estimated tax payments made for 2020, any documents verifying income and withholding. John faxed the information to them. He said the problem was "identity". The IRS wanted to make certain I am really me! I thought it was strange why they requested estimated tax payment and income and withholding information if they thought it was an "Identity" problem. However, I didn't question John. He said I would just have go wait until they mailed me my refund. As the months went on I kept thinking why did the IRS want estimated tax payment information. On January 13, 2022, I called John and said I was still waiting for my check and that I haven't heard from the IRS since June. I asked him if he could do anything to help me. He shouted, "no, I won't do anything to help you." His shouting upset me more than what he said. So, I made an appointment with another tax preparer for January 18, 2022. The new tax preparer looked over my 2020 tax return and the letter I received from the IRS, and he stated and should me the mistake that john Costello made. I left the office of the new tax preparer, and went to John Costello's office. I pointed out the mistake that he made. He entered my Federal tax payments on the wrong line, and he omitted my estimated tax amount. He tried to say that I did not give him the estimated tax payment information, which is a blatant lie, and i told him so. In June 2021, when I showed John the letter from the IRS, he knew that he made a mistake, and, if he didn't know, he should have examined the return that he prepared. John Costello didn't have the ethics or courage to admit to me that he made a mistake. Tax preparers are each given a phone number from the IRS, so the tax preparer can reach them. John denied this! If he had admitted to me, in June 2021 when I should him the letter, that he had made a mistake, I would not be typing this letter!
