I'm relatively new when it comes to the world of organic and natural bedding and mattresses. I knew from some extreme symptoms that I was having that my new Sealy mattress contained some potent chemicals that were affecting me, though I did not know what exactly. I did some internet research and found The Organic Bedroom, I also found people with similar stories to my own. Joey and Vicki are the store owners and helped me to understand flame retardants as well as what foam (in most typical new spring pillowtop mattresses) is made of. I am happy to say that I'm sleeping on a much less toxic mattress and cannot wait to purchase a mattress from them. I'm slowly re-vamping my bedroom and making it clean and have the following items from their thus far: -- 2 Shredded Latex Pillows (made of natural latex with an organic cotton cover) -- A set of Bamboo Pillowcases -- A crib mattress for a friend, as well as an organic cotton fitted sheet for it. -- A washable wool mattress protector -- An organic merino wool comforter (my most recent addition) I dare say I sleep on a cloud now after these additions to my bedroom. Do not purchase from this company! Matt made up a fabricated LIE saying my return had a strong essential oil smell! It sat in his business for days before he even inspected it. The topper wasn't even used at all but he refuses to believe me and will not issue a refund! American Express came to the rescue and refunded me. read more

I bought a bed from The Organic Bedroom in September. The bed was online for cheaper but we wanted a store front in case of any issues. When I received the bed in October I noticed the bed was not as soft as the floor stock model. I called the following day after sleeping on it and told them my concerns. Matt, the owner, called Berkley and was told that we should wait awhile to see if the bed softened. It has not. The bed is still too hard and The Organic Bedroom will not provide us with a softer mattress unless we pay $600 for another layer that may or may not work to my satisfaction. If we return the bed, they will only give us 70% back. This may all be in the contract fine print, but it is surprising to us that you can spend this much money on a bed and then significantly lose a lot if you don't like how it felt from the first night you slept on it. I had a wonderful experience at The Organic Bedroom. I knew I wanted an organic mattress, since I was expecting a baby soon, but I didn't know which brand/type of mattress to buy. The owners were very helpful and knowledgeable about their product and helped me weigh all the options and alternatives. They also offered to loan me a bed frame, free of charge, when I told them that I wasn't sure whether my new bed frame (ordered from a different store) would arrive before the mattress. I am very happy with my new mattress, which I have had for four months now. Also, the delivery and set-up of the mattress went just fine, in contrast to the other reviewer's experience. Very disappointed the store is NOT wheelchair accessible. Should at least be noted on their website. Knowing the plaza where the store is located, and knowing the locations around it are accessible, I ASSUMED The Organic Bedroom would be since I would think the buildings owner would be consistent. When I first went into the Organic Bedroom, I wasn't sure what to expect. what I found was a super courteous and patient staff who answered all my questions, and even asked me some of their own so they could help me find just the right mattress for me. I was probably in the store for 2 hours or more, trying every mattress and pillow. I ended up buying a king mattress and got 2 pillows and a wonderful mattress pad/cover. I am sleeping so well now! Fairly wide selection of organic mattresses and models to try. I was unable to try the Savvy Rest mattress in configurations that might have suited me because they had a sign saying unless you were going to purchase a SR mattress they could not move the latex. I have since tried Savvy at another store in this area where they had no problem at all reconfiguring the latex layers for me with no pressure to buy. (Do make an appointment). read more

My wife & I recently purchased a bed here. The in-store experience was great. We chose a Royal Pedic and left feeling good about the purchase. The owner had promised us "white glove" service upon delivery. We had emphasized to him that, since my wife is disabled & I am older as well, that we needed that level of service. The trouble started when the bed was delivered. The third party delivery company said they were told to just drop off the merchandise. Hardly top-notch service. Then the the owners, in turn proceeded to argue with us on the phone for nearly an hour involving the mattress company, the shipping company, & the deliverers in the process. They were rude and obstinate. Whatever happened to customer service? In the end, we were disappointed with the whole deal. My experience at The Organic Bedroom was absolutely 5-star. After years of back issues, I invested in a Suite Sleep latex mattress. I was impressed that it is a family business; the owners spent a lot of time educating me so I could make an informed decision. The delivery team was completely professional and on time - they even went out of their way to help me configure my base correctly (already owned) which wasn't their job. This is the first time in 6 years that I wake up without back pain...even my skeptical boyfriend had to admit the mattress is extremely comfortable. There are certain things you cannot skimp on - a mattress makes a huge difference to one's health!! It is one of the best purchases I ever made - cost-effective since it will last a very long time. The Organic Bedroom: Buyer Beware! What you lay on in the showroom is not what you receive. We purchased a misrepresented and defective mattress manufactured by The Organic Bedroom. After delivery, we were told "70% of people who buy this mattress have to buy a topper because of the discomfort". Talk about a bait and switch scheme. Needless to say, the mattress we received bore little resemblance to their "floor model." The Organic Bedroom mattress is a terrible quality mattress. It is lumpy and it creaks. Every other mattress we sleep on is better, including: a cheap air mattress, a 20+ year old mattress, several hotel mattresses and a warehouse mattress. If you have any problems or issues with your mattress, do not expect respectful or understanding customer service. The owners avoided any and all liability after delivery. They insinuated that we spent too little money at their store to matter, they told us to throw the mattress away if we didn't like it. We've been working with the NC Atty General's office to have this company investigated. The Organic Bedroom has the worst return policy in the area. They claim mattress companies do not do returns, but many do, including, but not limited to: department stores, warehouse stores and online stores. Here are some of the online options: Saatva, Keetsa, Loom and Leaf, Bed in a Box, Leesa, Casper, Tufts & Needle, Brooklyn Bedding, Alexander Nest and Helix Sleep. I hope that nobody else makes the same - expensive - mistake we made and bought from these scam artists. read more

Vicky and Joey are the owners and they put both knowledge and heart into the business. We purchased a mattress from them on a promotion when they first started their business a few years ago for our teenage son. I remember being impressed with their knowledge and how nice they were back then. Recently we were forced to throw out that mattress and all our others (plus most of our belongings) due to Mold in our home. We came in to them shell shocked and they could have taken advantage of us and sold us more than we needed or could have afforded. Instead they found us what we needed and worked with us on a great price which worked for our budgets. Since we were in Flux we chose to try a queen latex and if it did not work for us we would move it into either our son's room or our guest room when we were resettled. We normally sleep in a king so this was a way for us to try the latex and have a back up plan if it was not right for us. We tried Latex which I dont think I would have before and are very happy with it. Our son is using a spare bed from my dad's house and when we get settled back in to our lives we will come back and get another mattress or two. I had a great experience with The Organic Bedroom. I had been reading their ads in the INDY Weekly for weeks and had been concerned about the toxic chemicals in non-organic mattresses (and carpets and furniture!), including memory foam mattresses which was what I current used. I visited their store on a Sunday afternoon and Emily there was most helpful letting me try the different mattresses and also a mattress topper that was just wonderful. Yes, these are expensive but so are any medical problems that could be associated with the chemicals that surround us in daily life. I felt this purchase was worth it, so I ordered a mattress and topper. The mattress and topper had to be ordered but when it was delivered to the store, hte delivery fellas, David and his son, brought in the many boxes to unload and set up on my bed frame. They cleaned up after themselves and took away my old mattress and all of the empty boxes. I'm so glad that I didn't have the mattress and topper delivered to my door as I would have never been able to handle the weight of all of them or putting them correctly on the bed. It took a while for the correct mattress topper cover to come in but the owners let me use another one until the ordered one came in. When it came in, Joey and his wife (the owners) brought it to my home after work and put it on for me. I was most grateful to them! I know that Duke University employees can get a discount on the mattresses and Joey is working on getting a UNC discount as well. It definitely worth visiting The Organic Bedroom! read more

Very good variety to choose from and the owner is so helpful, patient and knowledgeable. We wanted a non toxic, natural mattress and they have a lot of great options for less price than a conventional rip off memory foam mattresses. I am not usually one to write reviews, but The Organic Bedroom has really been great to us. A few months ago we bought a bed that we are really happy with. The in store experience was much better than any other bed store I have been to. The delivery company was very friendly and did a nice job of setting up the bed. Most recently, my wife and I wanted to get one of their wool bed covers before having our baby, but my wife was feeling contractions so I didn't want to leave her to drive to their store (45 minutes away). One of the owners delivered the cover to our house that evening, which worked out wonderfully and is definitely above and beyond any service I would have expected! read more

ABOUT US We are 40+ husband and wife team who love to live organically and in complete health. We searched high and low for a local company who specializes in organic mattresses and bedding. Back in April 2013, our then 3.5 yo daughter was transitioning from her organic toddler/crib mattress to a double bed. We started our research online and quickly found that we really wanted to see and feel the mattress options in person. Most wonderfully, we quickly found The Organic Bedroom in Raleigh. I emailed them to schedule an appointment, so that we could get a full understanding of the different types of organic mattresses and material that they offered. They courteously spent 2+ hours with us, which was exactly what we needed in helping us find the perfect mattress for our daughter that she could grow into and use for the rest of her life if she wishes. Me and my husband recently bought 5 organic pillows from the organic bedroom. I was sooo happy that I was able to go into a actual store and feel the pillows out in person. I had previously spent $90 on an organic cotton pillow online (pure-rest) to then latter be disappointed with the product. But at the organic bedroom me and my husband were able to feel every pillow making sure we liked the product before we purchased it. They had a very large selection of organic pillows of all kinds. Buckwheat to wool. You name it they had it. I just loved that! I was able to figure out exactly what I liked since I had never laid on a wool, latex, kapok, or buckwheat pillow before. There customer service was excellent. They were helpful, and friendly and they even stayed open hours later for us. We showed up when they were about to close and they never once tried to kick us out. There service was outstanding! They also had a large selection of organic mattresses. My husband and I recently purchased a mattress, foundation, and other accessories (mattress cover, pillows, etc) from The Organic Bedroom. The service was outstanding! Joey and Vicky are extremely knowledgeable and very patient. Not only were they fine with our 1 year old daughter running around the store, but they even gave her a small toy (free of charge before we even committed to buying anything). In addition, the store was somewhat crowded when we arrived and they offered for us to come back anytime (even before/after the store's regular hours) so that we didn't have to make our daughter wait. The day of delivery went smoothly and not only did the delivery people arrive on time, but they were courteous and respectful. Mattresses here do range in price and most are more expensive than a traditional mattress store, but if you average the cost over the life of the mattress, you don't really end up spending more! Although we won't need another mattress for a long time, we will definitely go back to The Organic Bedroom when it is time for our daughter to move into a kids bed! read more
