Lovely pub atmosphere with cosey fireplace and large terrace. The food is also excellent for a pub, can hardly fault!

The Queens Head - Whole Baked Brixham Place - Excellent!!

Fabulous choice without an overly heavy crust and presenting a perfect blend of flavors (and plating design). -Main: Rare beef salad with diced tomatoes and chorizo paired with a gorgeous combination of dressings and salad leaves. Perfectly done beef strip with a creative marriage of background flavors. We came here with our friend's family who we knew we could trust to deliver some outstanding dishes in a quaint, well furnished pub setting. The waitress was fast, helpful, and friendly throughout. The seasonal menu has clearly been meticulously chosen, leaving something for everyone and leaving no one out. The new spring menu features traditional with a twist favorites such as Tempura black pudding with red onion marmalade, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce for starter along with steak, Red Mist ale and mushroom pie with red wine gravy for the main. The prices are very reasonable for the local, fresh produce and expert execution of the food.

We found a choice of tables available many of which had a leather sofa in place of the seats on one side. Very comfortable but in my view not practical to eat from. We were served at the table for both food and drinks. Nice choice of ales including Hoggs Back TEA. The menu offers plenty of choice and it is home (pub) made from fresh. 2 of my group went for beef roast. I chose an steak, ale and mushroom pie, and my partner chose a cumberland pie. Prices ranged between £10.50 and £14.50 (for the roast) for our meals which I felt was a little pricey compared to many. The food was served adn was absolutely first class. Everything was cooked to perfection (the meat, mash, roast potatos, vegetables etc) and was hot. It really was absolutely delicious, as was the desert afterwards (where even the cheesecake was home made). We gularly sample Sundays lunches at pubs and this is up there with the best.

One of those things I think that all Brits instinctively desire is a "nice country pub for Sunday…read moreLunch": this establishment in not-so-rural Surrey manages to tick all the boxes for me: - Plenty of parking - Plenty of tables in the garden (with a BBQ option) - Good food in generous portions - Good service They managed to score a quick bonus point with me virtually as soon as we sat down for lunch: the first thing the waitress did was offer "tap water" rather than trying to perpetrate the oh-so-irritating up-sell attempt for bottled water that has marred recent decades (for most of the UK perfectly drinkable stuff comes out of the tap: it wasn't that long ago most restaurants automatically put a jug of water on the table ...). So I'd definitely commend the Black Swan. UPDATE (Nov-11): After several visits, I'd now have to reduce Service from "Good" to "Generally Good" - there are unfortunately more than one member of staff who need some education about "Customer Focus" ...

Good pub food, a bit fancy. Lovely weekend BBQ plus a gastric pub menu. I had a cheeseburger,…read morecrispy on the outside just as I like it. It was served with chips and three different salads. A great kids menu too, with smaller portions of adult quality food. There's a definite relaxed bourgeois quality, if you are into that sort of thing. Dishes range between 9 and 15 pounds for lunch. I did have to sit in a chair that kept sinking back because it was half on brick and half on gravel, but the food and atmosphere made up for it.

The menu is meat centric and has lots of South African flavored options but there are vegetarian choices. Service is really good and the beer is cold and refreshing. The dessert menu is a MUST read - with over 10 options of ever increasing yummiest (so save room!). The restaurant is split between dinner tables and traditional pub tables so you could "just" pop in for a drink (but with the quality of food on offer - why would you lol). The outside area has a kids playground and plenty of tables for when the sun shines.

We arrived with our dog and although they don't allow her in the actual restaurant, we were able to sit in the bar area and order food from there. It was a very busy day, yet the bar staff served us quickly and even had the chance for a friendly chat with us. We ordered biltong (dry-cured meat) and boerewors (a type of sausage) as starters and then I had the minced Rump burger, whereas my other half ordered the chicken roulade. All of the items were quite tasty and I do applaud the management on that. Nevertheless, I didn't really like the atmosphere at the Percy Arms. To me, it was really too "done up" - it didn't feel real in there...I didn't feel comfortable. The pub looks quite old from the outside, but the inside doesn't reflect this at all.
