Athena has become "the big city" in recent years... used to be just a whistle stop on the main highway. The locals rely on this store for basic survival provisions, especially when Winter hits. If you're looking for a townie chances are they will show up here before long. I like to patronize local businesses and always stop in here for a snack or something at least. The folks there are friendly and Athena is a really nice, friendly town. When I used to come here in the early 1980's the local cop used to eyeball me pretty closely and follow me around in his cop car until I left town. I guess they don't get many visitors showing up on Harleys. He must have retired or lost interest in me lately cuz I haven't seen him in recent years.

Their cereal is mostly sugar based, same effect on the brain as cocaine and proven to cause brain rot. There are few to no organic options I buy such as hummus, cereal, chips, non sweetened fruit, bread, unprocessed protein options, and milk. Personally I don't like being "served", I think required politeness and civility hurts workers by emotionally enslaving them and isn't authentic to the history of the products, how they are made, and what they really are. Instead of processing the history of products they are selling empty emotional transactional "vibes" essentially trying to emotionally own the transaction. Payment shouldn't be a value The bulk food section is an option with a wide selection though not as many organic options as I'd prefer. The vitamin selection is adequate though I'd prefer to buy medicinal tinctures in larger quantities than available. The vegetarian processed food is too expensive to buy on a budget, non organic, and have way too much oil and salt in them. Most of the brands sold are lecherous and emotionally manipulative. I know they are trying to process their "biblical" beliefs but "killer" bread, "love" cereal, "gold" milk, "Morningstar" vege food, is just garbage.

It's not often that I find myself wanting to rate a gas station, but this one joins a short list of gas stations that I will go out of my way to visit. Mission Market is owned and operated by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, which are the Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla tribes. Mission Market is much more than a gas station. It is also a grocery store, deli, and drive-through. The groceries, which can be ordered online, are competitively priced. Mission Market also has a spotless laundromat, and even a place where you can get your blood pressure checked. One of the things that stood out to me both times is that Mission Market not only provides top tier gas, they provide you with clean, soapy water, and squeegees that are in excellent shape so drivers can clean their windows. It doesn't take much time and effort to do that, but the vast majority of gas stations today do not. I appreciate that the owners and operators of Mission Market take such pride and ownership, and that they care about their customers experience down to the smallest detail. * Because I was running behind schedule, I didn't have the opportunity to take photos of the interior of the store. As soon as I walked in I was in heaven with this carnivore promoting meat market / butcher shop! They had some great looking fresh meats behind the counter at reasonable prices, an area with beef jerky and dried sausage sticks, and a freezer area with a multitude of sausages and other frozen items (rabbit, bison, et al). They had such a wide variety of different flavor infused sausages I couldn't help but pick a few out to take. I only had so much room in my suitcase so I selected the '7 Pepper Bratwurst', 'Philly Cheesesteak Bratwurst' and a pack of 'skinny dogs' (hot dogs). There were at least a half dozen more I would have purchased had I had that room in that suitcase of mine. They made it home safely with me (TSA did not confiscate [to take home to their own freezer? lol] and they are in my freezer awaiting the right time to indulge. I picked out two dried sausage sticks (maple habanero and jalapeno) to try, along with a slab of their teriyaki flavored beef jerky. Each was individually wrapped. I would later eat both the sticks and enjoyed them both, the jalapeno more so. The slab of jerky was for my son, but I tried it and it was very good as well - not too much teriyaki flavor, which I really am not a fan of. It had just the right amount for me and I should have bought some for myself. The young staff working the day I was there were very friendly and helpful, with one of them giving me pointers about meal preparations on the frozen sausages I selected; primarily the philly cheesesteak bratwurst (which I have never tried before, but sounded quite interesting). If you are a carnivore you should make this one of your stops, be you a local or tourist. If you are only into eating nuts and berries then give it hard pass.
