The One was, no doubt, the closest eatery and drinkery to where I and a few friends lived while spending a summer in Oxford, so many an evening of mischief was spent here.
It feels pretty prototypically pub-ish, especially from the outside, which makes the ensuing fusion Asian cuisine (Japanese, Thai, and Chinese, mostly) and tiki drinks all the more shocking. Still, it was "our" pub, and it was never too busy, so it was always easy to get a tasty drink quite quickly. We actually never ordered food, as far as I recall, so I can't speak to whether it's any good.
The bar served me well, though, because I prefer sweeter and/or more dessert or fruity type alcoholic drinks rather than just beer, which made me a bit of an outlier among my pint-enjoying peers. I could always find something for me at The One, which made me happy. Lots of cocktails and such, always served with a strawberry cut with a very disarming smile.
Honestly, kind of a strange place! But not a bad place. Many fond memories here. :) read more
