Honestly, I probably shouldn't write this whole pub off because a friendless jerk came along trying to pick a fight. I suspect that he was friendless because, well, there seemed to be nobody around him, or egging him on. The Jericho was one of our favorite haunts in town, no doubt due to its proximity to some of my closest friends' flat. It's a warm, welcoming, spacious pub. We usually ate elsewhere or cooked our own dinners before coming by, so I can't speak to the food, but the drinks were always on point. I had a special fondness for the bartenders here because they were always happy to strike up a conversation with us. We had lots of laughs - one night in particular, they brought me to tears making fun of what they perceived as oddities in American passports. They also helped us one night when a buddy drunkenly lost his phone in the building. They were patient and good natured, which is about all you can ask of bar staff. Again, if you're not feeling like making new friends, there's plenty of room to spread out with your own social group or even be asocial, if that's what you're wanting. It's a welcoming, fun place, and a little bit more laid back than some of the other pubs around. read more

After coming off a red-eye flight with about 3 hours of sleep and taking an hour bus ride from Heathrow to Oxford and finally reuniting with a friend of ours, she took us to The Jericho Tavern for breakfast which was such a perfect place to start our food fest in the UK. Such a quaint place. We all ordered a vegetarian plate which comes with eggs, veggie sausage, baked beans, and brown toast. I also ordered a coffee to accompany with it. God knows that I needed a boost of caffeine. Now, this was my first time in the UK so I knew that there would be different variations in the presentation or taste of the food. I wish I took a picture of my plate because the food was delicious, however, the eggs had an orange tint. The veggie sausage did not taste like sausage nor did it look like sausage. It looked more like hash browns rolled into the form of a sausage with frozen veggies. The baked beans were a nice touch to the plate. My husband absolutely loved it and since coming home, has incorporated it into his breakfast. Friendly service. read more

The Jericho Tavern might just be one of my favourite places in Oxford, ever. I've spent ALOT of time here, and never left feeling sour about it. Favourite imports on tap? Check. Big outdoor (and heated) seating area? Check. Wonderfully quirky and fun decor? Check. Good food? Check. Friendly staff? Check. Downstairs, they also have a small stage which serves as a gig venue sometimes, too! It's a classic pub with a young, fun energy. Jericho is a great neighbourhood, and this pub is just another reason why it's my favourite area in town. read more

If I ever open a restaurant, I hope it has as much character as the Jericho. Food is great (though Sunday lunch can take quite a while), beer selection is pretty good, and the crowd is always lively. I would suggest going here several times in order to enjoy the many facets that are the Jericho Tavern. Quiet afternoons can make it a great hideaway to read the paper or enjoy a neat atmosphere in the quiet. Friday nights have live music upstairs and a bustling crowd. Sunday afternoon has roasts and more of a restaurant atmosphere. You are bound to find a time that the Jericho will be your favourite pub. Same owners as the Royal Oak, and thus the same menu. The food here is a cut above the usual gastropub offering. I had chorizo and pork burger, it was excellent. Nice fries as well. And the desserts were really good, including a cucumber sorbet (!). The two other things worth mentioning: a genuinely mixed crowd in terms of ages, unusual for this part of Oxford; and really nice staff. For example: we'd ordered dessert but were running late for the cinema. So the staff boxed it up and lent us cutlery, and just asked us to drop it back afterwards. Sweet. read more

I live in the middle of town but like going to the Jude the Obscure in Jericho for a quiet drink with friends once every week at least (usually Tuesdays, after my life drawing classes at the Jericho community center). Being such a regular at Jude, it wasn't long before I heard about its scrumptious indie equivalent, the Jericho Tavern. I hadn't been before so last week I tried it out to see what it was like. I got there at like 5 in the afternoon, a little on the early side, I know, but it was a hard day and I needed to just unwind. Before my friends showed up I decided I'd try something new. I went to the bar and asked for a Stella Artois, a Belgian lager I had had recommended to me earlier in the week, but they didn't have it. Instead I had a golden Italian beer that I've seen in the supermarket. It's called Peroni. It was delicious. I told that to the bar man, hoping to get chummy ASAP, but he wasn't that nice. Then when my friends got there I had a Leffe, which was sort of expensive, but I heard it was made by monks (Is that true?), and I didn't think its flavor was so palatable. I recommended the Peroni to my friends because they said they had never tried an Italian beer before and they all LOVED it, except for Jennifer. She's just stupid though sometimes. After that I was feeling spicy, so I ordered a bloody mary at the bar. The man asked me if I wanted it very hot and I said 'If you made it as hot as I want it, you'd be serving it in a thong' and gave him ten pounds. He gave me a weird look and then gave me a bunch of coins for change. I don't think he got what I was trying to do. Anyways, we stayed for one last beer (we all had Peroni again 'cause we liked it so much the first time) and then we left. I yelled 'see ya sweetcheeks' to the bar man on my way out, but I think he ignored me. English people can take a while I guess! read more

Made a booking for a Friday night and found it PACKED when we arrived. It's essentially a gastro-pub; food and drinks are ordered at the bar and then delivered to you table. It was a little difficult to order food because the tavern was SO busy! The food arrived all together, even the appetizers, about 35 minutes after we ordered it. The food was all really tasty and fresh, with the exception of a side of carrots that had the texture of mulch. Overall the Jericho Tavern had great food and a youthful, trendy vibe. It's a great place to hang out with friends and eat some innovative pub-grub, however if you're for a more relaxed meal this isn't the place to go. read more

Jericho Tavern is easily my favorite pub in Jericho. They have a great selection of beer, plus cider, fruit beer, and wine. Hoegaarden, Red Stripe, Perioni, and Franziskaner Weisbeir are normally all on draught, but don't forget to check the cooler for choices like Chimay and Erdinger. The main room is quite large and has tables and a few sofas. The space works well for big groups, or just people hanging out by themselves, taking advantage of the free WiFi. There is also a large patio area in back and some of those seats are covered. Jericho has good pub food and offers the same menu that you will see at the Royal Oak and Turf Tavern. One of Jericho Tavern's claims to fame is their live music. The have an upstairs stage that hosts bands several nights a week. There is normally a small cover to see the shows. With the great selection of beer, tasty food, and live music, Jericho is hard to beat. read more

Went to The Jericho last night and it was a rather pleasant experience. However, as I paid with cash, the bartender (didn't catch her name but she was working a shift with a woman with platinum blonde hair) was hesitant to take it, gave me a rather cross look, and decided to lecture me about using cash in light of the development of the coronavirus. That is all well and good, and definitely something to be mindful of during this time. Maybe put it on a sign that the bar is card only or card preferred rather than singling out the Asian customer? Not sure if she told the same thing other customers paying with cash as well. read more

Good beer, good food, reasonable prices. The usual drinks options are teamed up with some guest beers, which is nice. The prices are a little high though. The food is good. It's typical bar food: burgers, bar snacks, fish & chips and the like. I've had their beer & burger deals once or twice and have been happy. Their bar snacks are good, but could be a little cheaper and then we'd likely order more. Fun environment, happy staff. read more

I've never really been a fan of this pub. Maybe it's because I'm not a hipster, but it always seems like you need to know the secret (probably vintage) handshake in order to get served, when i did get served my pint was £4.20! The food is actually pretty good, but most of the tables inside look like they're about to collapse. Outside is much nicer and it's actually a pretty nice garden, and of course if there is a gig on upstairs it's usually a fun night, but generally service and price lets this place down. read more

Good food is good. Good food in small portions is bad. So this was bad good food. Why, Jericho Tavern? When dishes are delicious, I want them to go on and on. I had the smoked mackerel on bubble and squeak with a poached egg (solid yolk, boo) and hollandaise sauce and my word, was it yummy, but the serving was just a bit mean. Following the despondent looks on my dining companions' faces when our plates arrived, we decided to order some sweet potato wedges to pad out our portions but even then, we received barely a handful. Avant garde my arse, IT'S NOT THE 90s ANY MORE. We don't need Cordon Bleu style mini-portions. Heroine chic is out. Give me food. I'd also query the "bubble and squeak" description since it was a bit more like (very tasty) mashed potato with a few veggies in it (in my opinion, the ratio of spuds to other ingredients should be roughly equal) and there were none of the fried crispy slightly burnt bits that I'm used to but then maybe my mum just fobbed me off when she told me it was meant to be like that and I've been getting it wrong all these years. Is it not supposed to be blackened on the edge? And taste slightly charcoaly? But that's my favourite part. Anyway, it was still really good, even if my mum's is better in all its (deliberately?) charred glory. The atmosphere was great and it felt very warm and welcoming, but I was disappointed by the range of drinks available; no obvious sign of anything mulled or spiced, which I would expect at this time of year, and the beers on tap were all deeply uninspiring. But we had a nice bottle of wine and they were saved by the menu, really. Although they call themselves a tavern, the focus seems to rest solely on the food. I felt as if they'd abandoned the pub moniker and headed straight for the gastro. I'm not complaining, but it's good to know what you're getting. Finally, I don't know if it's a city-wide thing or we just got very lucky but the Jericho Tavern was also the third pub we visited that afternoon (what of it?) and all were staffed by rather good-looking young men so that was a definite bonus. Ladies, get thee to Oxford, order the sticky toffee pudding (epic), grab a seat at the bar, and feast both your stomach and your eyes. read more

Had a pretty nice meal and drink here a few weeks back. The halloumi salad was enjoyable, and the fish-and-chips were good, if slightly unorthodox (some sort of herb infused batter, and minty mushy peas. Purists might grumble, but then again, it's Oxford, not Whitby). Only complaint was the somewhat drunk, loud and pushy crowd of kids jammed in front of the bar, which made placing our order with the bartender a bit of an ordeal as people kept jumping in front of us until we resorted to being equally pushy. read more

The Jericho Tavern is a cool studenty pub just a few minutes walk from the centre of Oxford. It's open 12noon til 12 midnight every day and serves food as well (although I've never eaten here). It's got all the usual bar drinks but has a range of guest beers including an amazing strawberry beer - yumyum. They hold BBQs in the summer and had mulled wine on the bar went we went this weekend (in November). The upstairs of the pub has live bands playing on some nights. I've never been upstairs for one but it's worth knowing that it doesn't disturb the pub downstairs. There's a good, heated, beer garden out the back. It's a little tucked away - follow the signs to the gents loos and you'll find it. A great pub for a few drinks with friends. read more

This was my first stop on my first ever trip to Oxford and despite hearing that there is an abundance of good pubs in the area I wanted to make sure I started off with a good one and it did not disappoint. Food was delicious, the staff very friendly and helpful and although they had run out of some of the food they suggested some very tasty alternatives. Big beer garden out the back which we didn't make use off as the sun was on the wrong side. However very cosy, easy to spend an afternoon here but managed to just about prise myself off the sofa to go and do some sightseeing (also as the music was sending us to sleep a bit, nice tunes but maybe more suited to a Sunday!) Would definitely go back. And very clean toilets too! read more

I'm a student studying abroad in Oxford from the states. First of all, the bartenders are RUDE. There were only two tables that were occupied in the bar, so it was nearly empty. Yet, they did not "accept" United States IDs. I have been to many pubs/bars/clubs in Oxford and have NEVER had this problem. Their reasoning was that they were in the states and their UK IDs did not work there. We left and while we were outside one of my friends got attacked by a "regular" at the pub. My friend made a comment about how the bar sucked (with reason) and the group of regulars (four teenage boys) attacked him and punched him in the face. We had to go to the hospital and file a police report. Jericho Tavern did nothing to help. Jericho is a nice area, but The Jericho Tavern is not worth making the trip. I would suggest Jude The Obscure, which is very close. read more

It's a nice tavern with cool decoration and games available to play. However, I was disappointed with my fish and chips. They were quite mushy and the serving size of the sides was also not as big as I would expect for the price. My friends were much more satisfied with their meals so perhaps this was just a random miss. read more
