My wife and I have a son in college in Terre Haute, so we've been coming to town a few times a year…read morefor the last 3 years. We absolutely love the downtown, and we have 2 favorite places to stay- the Candlewood and the other big hotel across the street. Each has it's own charm, but I personally prefer the Candlewood. The rooms are expansive and come with a kitchenette. The location here is key- this is right on the corner of 7th and Wabash. Downtown TH has some super fun bars and restaurants and they're all a hop from this place. The hotel is quiet, clean, and like I already mentioned, the rooms are huge. Every time I am here I sleep like a baby- the beds are so comfortable and the hotel is quiet. I love their workout room here too- it's got everything I need to have an excellent workout while I'm on the road. It's super clean and has a nice range of equipment. Overall this is an excellent hotel. Even after our son graduates next year, I can see my wife and I coming to Terre Haute to enjoy a few of the restaurants in town, and we will definitely stay at the Candlewood Suites again.

Room refrigerator has a great ice maker and ice machine too with the recycles bins room! They have a huge locker with appliances you can borrow during your stay. Great work desk and chair if you're here on business. Beds were comfy and 4 pillows on each queen bed, nice supply of towels. Storage in the bathroom on the wall kept my makeup out of hubby's way. Cold A/C with a constant fan option . Large TV maybe 55". Easy parking and a BBQ pavilion too! Pet friendly and NO ODOR! Frozen meals, snacks and free coffee in the lobby. Free laundry with clean washer & dryers. Good food and cocktails a very short distance from the hotel. IHG rewards program.

The Verve is one of the best nightclubs in Terre Haute…read more They have a well stocked liquor assortment, which includes many "premium" brands of single malt scotch, tequilas, whiskies, vodkas, etc. in addition to reasonable "well" brands. A half dozen brews on tap, backed up by a large assortment of bottled products (domestic, imported, and microbrews. The lighting is just a bit on the dark side for some people, but lends itself to a more intimate setting. The seating is cozy and close. There is a combination of your basic round tables with chairs, high chairs at the bar, and custom made semi-circular booths made with a comfortable padded material, as well as a couple of genuine couches. The Verve permits smoking, but more importantly to me - - is a cigar friendly bar - - even offering to "some" cigar patrons the use of custom cigar ashtrays. The staff working behind the bar is very friendly and knowledgeable mix masters and often lend to making an evening much more enjoyable. But what sets The Verve apart from many other places in town, is the variety of live music they feature during the week and not just the weekends. The live bands there can range from accoustic, to garage grundge, to straight out rock, cover bands, blues, and borderline jazz/blues. Many of the artists performing there are showcasing their own compositions. The Verve also hosts an annual music festival taking up about a block and a half of downtown Terre Haute (in front of The Verve) called "Blues At The Crossroads." This is a two day event celebrating its' 8th year of music, food and beverages, while dancing in the street at the intersection of old US 41 and old US 41 - historically recognized as "The Crossroads of America"!

Terre Haute Children's Museum

Great family-friendly museum with tons of hands-on learning!…read more We had such a great time at the Terre Haute Children's Museum! My kids are 2 and 3, and we easily spent about 2.5-3 hours exploring. There was SO much to do that we actually ended up spending most of our Terre Haute day here instead of making it to the other places I had planned. What I loved most was that the exhibits weren't just fun -- they encouraged kids to learn through play. There were opportunities to pretend to be construction workers, veterinarians and farmers, dig for dinosaur bones, explore engineering and physics, learn about seasons, and so much more. My kids especially loved the construction area, sand table, water play, pretend-play areas, Amazing Airways and the giant bubble you can actually stand inside! They also have a two-story treehouse, toddler area, Fit Gym, Fresh & Fit Market/Kitchen, and their new Wonders of the Wabash water exhibit. There are three floors, so there was plenty to explore. I also really appreciated that there were activities for different ages, although some features -- like the ropes course -- have height requirements. My kids weren't tall enough for that yet. Admission is very reasonable at $9 for ages 2+, with children under 2 free. They're also part of the Access Pass Program and offer Toddler Tuesdays. If you're visiting Terre Haute with kids, I would definitely put this on your list! We could have easily spent even longer here.

We especially loved the construction section. It had great hands on tasks dedicated to the trades- electrical, plumbing, tile laying, painting, wall framing, and brick laying. It was really cool. There is a nice farming section. A really big water table. Also a large tree house climbing structure and for the bigger kids a harnessed rope course. It was easy to spend 2 hours here. Great resource for the Terre Haute area.
