Set in an old log cabin building on a very rural road an iconic gem from the late 1700's ! We heard many great things about the Nutty Pear on Adamsdale Road wanted to try it. We had reservations for 5PM and we were seated immediately! We actually were the first group there and our server greeted us and took our orders for drinks! Meals included Shrimp & Scallop Picata, Crab Stuffed Salmon with Creamy Dill Sauce, Creamy Tuscan Shrimp & I chose the Wasabi Salmon with Sushi Rice! We all loved our meals! Service is slow but they're limited in staff right now but the young lady who seemed to take over for our server did a fantastic job on providing for our needs! A fun, funky find that was definitely off the beaten path. First impressions: you do need a reservation, but you can only get it by texting their posted phone number if they don't pick up. They don't have a website, but they also don't have paper menus--QR codes on the table only. And they don't take credit/debit cards, but they're not just cash-only because you can still pay with Venmo. It's a family affair; the owner is also the chef. There is one full-time waitress and the other couple of people running around are helpful grandchildren. For these reasons, be prepared that while the food is very good, you will wait awhile for it. We had wine and the bread basket brought to us fairly quickly, but it was almost an hour before we received our salads. Bring a patient, laid-back mood and you'll be fine because it's a cozy, rustic spot. The fall decor made me feel like I was sitting down to a Thanksgiving dinner. The chicken cordon bleu is a big (emphasis on large) highlight and we also enjoyed the garlicky Mediterranean pasta with angel hair and nice, fat shrimp. Killer Ceasar salad. Only complaint is that the wines are on the cheap side (think Yellowtail...they def don't list the vintage or origin on the menu, lol), but on the other hand...they're $10 a glass, which compared to Philly prices feels downright affordable. No idea how this has better than 2 or 3 stars?! Came here solo (dressed up), after an exhaustive 8hr+ drive from New Hampshire. Why? Because yelp showed great reviews & photos. BUT Staff were less than courteous & harshly refused to serve me dinner; because apparently "Reservations" are required?! Couldn't find any signage or website info that stated this. Evenso, it should have been handled with Professionalism and (frankly) common Courtesy. One of my most disappointing experiences ever!! Most of the food was very good, the service was awful. There was hardly any other diners in the restaurant. It took an hour just to get our salads. We finally got our entrees after an hour and a half. The server did not come back at any time to check on us. The server was rude. We asked to split the check with our friends and she said to read the writing on their website. It says you must ask for a split check when first ordering. The bill was $300 for four of us and it was in no way worth it. I tipped her 20% only because we just wanted to get out of there. She did not serve any tip. We will never go back again. read more

While driving to a weekend golf trip with my bf in Pennsylvania, we stumbled upon this neat restaurant in the middle of no where land. Dave usually orders an NA beer but they didn't carry any so he had a Yuengling beer and I had the sangria. We also ordered 12 wings, half chipotle ranch and half gojuchang BBQ. The wings were fat and juicy, both sauces were fresh and delicious. They also gave us a basket with a freshly made loaf of amazing bread. My sangria was packed with fruit and had hibiscus in it as well, it was unbelievable. We were the first guest on a Friday at 5pm so it was still sunny outside so we sat on a really cute patio over looking their backyard and tree filled mountains. Service and price was very reasonable. Never again,I was a first time customer, staff was rude, orders were mixed up, I was charged for the dinner that they gave me, the person whoms dinner I received, neither one of us knew that the two shrimp platters were switched until we started eating them, at that point there was nothing we could do, I was charged $13 more for the error and not what I had ordered, till the end of the meal I had have enough and just wanted to end this experience. This place is very interesting. I wanted to try it because of the reviews so hubby and I went on a Thursday night. Reservations are recommended and I can only assume this is because there is limited seating and you will spend a minimum of 1.5 hours here due to the service. They do not accept credit cards or debit cards- only cash, check, venmo and zelle. Upon walking in it is dimly lit and decorated as if you are traveling back in time. It is quite romantic, but a conversation will carry across the whole restaurant as it was extremely quiet. As far as the food- we ordered the dumplings as an app l. I got chicken francaise over rice and hubby got the korean chicken bbq bowl. It was okay but not worth the price to me. And we were there for 2 hours for 1 app and 2 chicken dishes. I did enjoy my dragonfruit mojito and our waitress was very nice. All in all I am glad I gave this place a try. I appreciate the quirky, upscale vibe they are going for but it wasn't good enough for me to return. read more

Unfortunately, the mussels we had for an appetizer tasted like medicine. We would have liked to have a dessert but our waitress never came back to ask what we wanted. Food, service, and ambiance were second to none. A girlfriend and I had dinner together and chose to sit outside. The waitress was very attentive for being the only one scheduled for a Friday evening. We shared the Brie appetizer and each had a salad. The Brie was very good. Spent a great night of Thanksgiving dining out with my amazing wife at the Nutty Pear in Orwigsburg, PA. The Owner, and chef, is Patti Birosik, is an extremely accomplished chef. I had her New England clam chowder, sautéed in garlic octopus, crab stuffed mushrooms and chicken Marsala. This feast was perfectly done and I could not have been more pleased. Without our girls being home for Thanksgiving, this made Thanksgiving much more pleasurable. read more

I love this place. The food is delicious and expertly prepared. The 18th century venue makes you feel as though you are stepping back in time (but be careful you don't step into the low 1700s door frame when you enter!). On my most recent visit, I had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. The chicken was moist and the puff pastry was perfectly airy, buttery and chewy. And the ham was absolutely breathtaking-- thick, flavorful and juicy! The Nutty Pear is unique, charming and most importantly, the food is amazing. A must visit. read more

I had a difficult task of finding somewhere to bring 15 friends and family members to eat after burying my mother's ashes at Schuylkill Haven Union Cemetery. Not being from the area, it was a giant search effort trying to find a restaurant that would be open for lunch, serve good food, and be a nice gathering place for such an occasion. From the very beginning, Patti Birosik, owner and chef of the Nutty Pear was awesome! She readily agreed to open her restaurant for us for lunch- she is usually open for dinner on Saturday- and provided a phenomenal menu selection from which to choose. She was kind and understanding of our unsure schedule, extremely flexible with the changing number of people, and more than accommodating with all arrangements. When we arrived, the table setting was perfect! She had arranged a way for all 15 of us to sit together that allowed for the flow of conversation. We were also very charmed by the ambiance of the restaurant- from the sweet outside to the cozy and quaint inside. Our meals began with a beautiful salad- greens with slivered carrots, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and beets, and choice of dressing (I chose the ginger... yum!). From there we had pre-selected entrees of: Baked Salmon with Creamy Dill and Potatoes; Chicken Cordon Bleu Baked in a Puff Pastry; Lamb Chops Dijon with Potatoes. I should note that Patti had pretty much given us the entire menu to make our pre-selections from. All entrees looked amazing, tasted equally if not more so, and were quite a generous portion. I had the lamb chops, tender and cooked to perfection with a mouth watering Dijon sauce. The salmon was reported as extremely moist, also topped with a delicious sauce over rice. The show stopper was the appearance of the Chicken Cordon Bleu, in a HUGE puff pastry! Everyone in our party thoroughly enjoyed her or his meal. But let's not stop there. For dessert, we had given our guests a choice of 3: Carrot Cake, Triple Chocolate Cake, and Peanut Butter Pie. OH MY! There wasn't a single morsel left on any plate. My mother always loved quaint inn-like restaurants off the beaten path. She would have adored The Nutty Pear, the ambiance, food, and Patti and her son! While we live in Philadelphia, we will definitely revisit the Nutty Pear as often as we can. It will certainly be our "go to" place to eat when in Schuylkill Haven to visit my parents graves. read more

February 2019 Quaint lovely log cabin restaurant located in an original stagecoach stop as the legend goes. When you walk in you are greeted with a warm friendly ambience , soft music, always tastefully decorated for whatever holiday is nearby. You can tell that the owner takes pride in her place. Now the best part...the food! Have been going here for years and never disappointed! Went here Valentine's Day weekend 2019 and amazing. There is warm bread , cold plates with handmade salad always with a signature yellow beet. I get the blue cheese dressing and as my mom would say "lots of lumps". For those that like appetizers a wide variety including escargot! I splurged and got lobster tail topped with crab meat for my main course. Unreal, and I grew up on the Chesapeake Bay where crab is king! Sauces she makes are well prepared never too thick or overstated. My husband got chicken carbonara and loved it. Her dishes are made from scratch and served hot and beautifully plated. We took our dessert of raspberry ganache cheesecake home and it was delicious but it you stay for dessert get the French pressed coffee! Can't say enough about this 5 Star restaurant! Have been to this place at least three times in the past two years. The food is generally good, however, it's getting to the actual meal point that's the problem! When you make reservations, you are told bluntly that if all of your guests don't show up, you will be charged $25 per person! Really, they never heard of emergencies? They also do not take credit/debit cards. Their are no menus! Use your phone! The overall attitude is one of they are doing you a favor by allowing you to visit them! If the food wasn't above average, I would never put up with this crap of them trying to save a nickel by inconveniencing their customers as they most certainly are doing. read more

The Nutty Pear definitely won't appeal to EVERYONE, as it is a very quirky kind of restaurant. But I love it because it's different, it's a quiet place to have a nice meal with someone, and the food is definitely cooked just for you. The Nutty Pear is located on Adamsdale Road, a back road just off busy Route 61. It's not on a main drag, and I've never been in there where it's fully packed, so it's a nice change of pace. It's got a very small bar and very intimate dining room, and now a deck to enjoy the outdoors. The food is cooked to order by the owner and the specials change seasonally and with what she has on hand. When she has sushi on the menu I always order that. I was delighted to find this gem of a restaurant in Schuylkill Haven. I am pretty picky when it comes to food--disclaimer: my husband is a chef. The menu was huge for a small restaurant, and the food was definitely fresh. I ate the salmon with angel hair and tomatoes. The dinner salad was beautiful. Food is made to order so they are not rushing you in and out but you can't expect to go and be in and out quickly. That is a definite attraction! The curry shrimp stir-fry was fragrant and plentiful. The shrimp were jumbo. I asked for it over linguini instead of rice. The salmon with ginger and sesame was perfectly cooked. Salads were delicious with homemade blue cheese dressing. Appetizer was pesto bruschetta. Tomatoes were from the garden Dresser was triple chocolate cake- not homemade, but good.
