My husband & I spent 2 awful nites there a few weeks ago! Something should have "warned" us upon…read morecheck-in as the clerk asked us to pay immediately! We had traveled for about 10 days in England prior to this stay, and no one else asked for this! They simply waited until we checked out. This place was not only run down but also dirty. We tried dinner there, and the bottle of water (it was not bottled water but water put in a quart size bottle which was what we had asked for) that was brought to us had a fly in it! When we pointed this out to our waiter quietly, he simply stood there and kept looking at the bottle and moving it around until he, too, saw the fly. He made no attempt to be discreet although there were other diners there. Since I only had a salad, bread and dessert, my dinner was ok. Breakfast was included so we tried it. Coffee was instant coffee brought in a bowl with a pot of hot water. We didn't drink it as the outside of the bowl was dirty... We left for the day, assuming that our room would be made up as we had paid for 2 nites. But when we returned that evening, our room had not been touched. The carpets were dirty/stained, although the room seemed relatively clean otherwise. We couldn't even watch TV because the channels had so much static it was impossible to keep viewing! Although they had free internet, you have to sign in EVERY 30 minutes. There is so much more I could say, but I don't want to waste any more of my time or yours. If you do go here, the last thing I want to say is this: make sure your bill is correct. The same person who waited on us for dinner was the same person who checked us out. He attempted to charge us 3 times the amount due for dinner (our dinner was about 25 pounds, and he told us it was 75 pounds, then he tried to place the blame on someone else...) We were really disappointed and dissatisfied, especially as the price we paid was as much as or even higher than the other places we stayed, and they were absolutely PERFECT! Never again for this place....

This place absolutely nails the spooky, historic ambience and that alone makes it worth the visit. Built into the rock and filled with low ceilings, uneven floors, and centuries of history, it genuinely feels like stepping back in time. Every corner has character and a slightly eerie charm that adds to the experience rather than taking away from it. The ambience is easily the highlight here. From the dim lighting to the old stone walls and hidden nooks, it feels authentic and atmospheric without trying too hard. It is the kind of place where you want to slow down, look around, and soak it all in. If you appreciate history or enjoy places with a bit of mystery and legend behind them, this pub delivers in a big way. Service was good overall but not outstanding. Staff were friendly and helpful, though things moved at a relaxed pace, especially when it got busy. Orders were correct and everyone was polite, but there were moments where service felt just okay rather than exceptional. That said, the staff fit the vibe of the place well and were happy to answer questions about the history, which added to the experience. Drinks were solid and what you would expect from a historic pub. Nothing mind blowing, but enjoyable and well poured. The food was decent and satisfying, fitting the traditional pub feel, even if it did not completely steal the show. Overall Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is a place you go for the atmosphere and history first, with good service and an enjoyable experience rounding it out. It is not perfect, but it is unique, memorable, and absolutely worth a visit when in Nottingham. Four stars for a spooky, historic pub that delivers charm and character in spades.

Like all structures of this era, the ceilings are quite low and the stairs and rooms are quite twisty and full of surprises. The staff was so nice and efficient. I ordered at the bar downstairs and had my meal delivered to a table on the next floor (see video). I've taken many trips to the UK, and frequented many establishments with signs claiming the "world's best fish and chips.". The fish was amazing and perfectly prepared. The chips were not greasy at all, and very flavorful. The highlight was the fresh peas! Bursting with flavor. I rate the fish and chips second only to the Mayfair Chippy in London, however, the ambiance and experience takes it over the top even if you're only slopping by for a pint.
