There aren't many options for plus sized clothing in York besides Lane Bryant, so I'll drive the extra distance just to find clothing that isn't made for 40 year old women. I am 20 years old, after all. Torrid carries sizes 12-28, and their clothing is what I would describe as alternative chic. In case you didn't know, Torrid was created by Hot Topic for plus sized women specifically. First of all, the staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable about their brand and it's sizing systems. A staff member helped me find the perfect jeans, which is absolutely unheard of for me. They were all warm and considerate, and kept checking on me while I was trying on numerous items of clothing and taking pictures. I was never once treated rudely, and their staff followed the practice of watching the customer but only butting in when the customer asks questions or looks confused. It makes the shopping experience better, because most other stores treat me like I'm stealing if I spend a significant amount of time there, or they follow me around and comment on each item I even look at. Torrid's clothing is trendy yet also made for comfort. I can't imagine trying on something of theirs and feeling like I have to take it off right away. They had everything you can imagine from sweaters, dresses, skirts, jeans, lingerie, shoes, jewelry, fragrances and more. Unfortunately I can not fit into their lingerie due to needing a larger bra size than what they stock, but I tried some of it on anyway and it was very comfortable and made me feel sexy despite being the complete wrong size for me. Their prices were slightly high for certain items, but other items were very reasonably priced. My favorite part of the store were the fitting rooms. When you walk into the fitting room area, you're greeted with a huge space with chandeliers, leopard print carpet, amazing lighting, and huge mirrors. This area is also air conditioned. When you go into an individual fitting room, it's very spacious, very well lit, has a huge mirror, and a fan up in the corner that you can control as you please. I've had the feeling of being hot, cramped, and sweaty in way too many fitting rooms in the past. Torrid's fitting rooms made me feel comfortable and important. They truly thought of every detail to make the fitting room experience a positive one for plus sized women, rather than just throwing together a fitting room area like Lane Bryant (where I've always been drenched in sweat as I try on jeans and sweaters). I love the fact that there's now a good plus size store in this part of Pennsylvania, because it's been long overdue. If you're plus size and want to be treated like a Princess, go to Torrid as soon as possible.

A few days later, I placed a second order and unfortunately, it wasn't until after I placed it that I noticed things defaulted back to a former address. I reached out to customer service as soon as the order was placed, and was met with "Sorry we can't make changes to the order after they are placed," with no offers to help resolve the issue or attempts from Buckle to contact FedEx to intercept what had already been shipped. I tried to intercept with FedEx by redirecting the shipment, but was notified that I had to reach out to Buckle to change the address while Buckle claims they can't do anything. It wasn't until days later that Buckle told me due to limitations they imposed with shippers, customers cannot contact FedEx to redirect their own orders. Still, there was no attempt by Buckle to reach out to FedEx until I began to express a lot of frustration over the situation. Now that they have waited until it is likely too late to contact FedEx, they are still making me pay for an item that they knew from the start I won't be receiving unless they intercept by contacting FedEx. I loved Buckle, but this has left me feeling that the company does not care about its customers at all. This experience also left me feeling like they knowingly trapped me into paying for an item they knew from the start I wouldn't actually be receiving because now they waited until the last possible minute to reach out to FedEx to intercept the package. They should have reached out as soon as I put in a ticket mere minutes after placing the order. I won't be returning unless an effort is made to make things right. Mistakes happen, and if Buckle is disabling customers from reaching out to shippers to fix an issue, then Buckle has a responsibility to handle the issue when a client/customer reaches out. Waiting until the last minute to trap a customer into paying for an item they won't get is unethical.

If you're looking for more casual wear (tees, shorts, etc.), you'll probably have better luck at the Loft store. This location is great for business clothes and more formal attire. This is typically where I shop for work outfits - suits, separates, dresses, and cardigans. It's the smaller of the two stores, which makes it perfect for a quick shopping visit over lunch, and it always has a good selection of seasonally appropriate items. The staff at both locations are pretty friendly and helpful - they greet you, offer to start a room for you once you've picked out a few items, and check in frequently enough to get you a new size if you need, but not so often that they become a nuisance. The folks at the Loft are especially great at suggesting different color combinations, so if you're stuck, don't hesitate to ask them! And if you don't see something in your size, likewise, just ask. They're less likely to have extras at the Ann Taylor in Tanger since it is a smaller store, but the Loft in Rockvale apparently keeps a good bit of clothes "in the back," so it's always worth asking. I shopped at White House Black Market for a while, but found both these Ann Taylor stores to have a better selection and FAR more friendly and helpful staff.
