We finally figured out we had to order food at the bar, and of course I got fish and chips. The food took some time to come out, but honestly it was well worth it. THIS WAS THE BEST FISH AND CHIPS I HAVE EVER EATEN. Maybe it's because I'm an American tourist and I haven't had enough fish and chips to make a fair assessment. But. I tell you. The fish was fried to perfection: flaky, crispy, and not too greasy. I typically hate peas, but these ones were sweet and fresh. The fries were also good. I am so happy to have stumbled upon this place with my family. I ate fish and chips about 5 other times while I was in the British Isles and none of those hold a candle to this place. We were able to order some drinks and find a great table with a decent view of Greenock. My guy and I only stayed for a few as we were on our way to a concert at the Beacon, but we had high hopes of making it back after the concert for some snacks after checking out the substantial food menu. Unfortunately, we didn't get back from the concert before 11pm (when they stop selling food), but we did stop back in for more drinks and crisps on our way back to the hotel. Walking in, we were immediately blinded by the bright white lights that lit up the place. Not the most cozy atmosphere with the particle board seating booths and the tacky tiling, but the guy behind the bar was friendly enough and we were very welcomed. I was about one of three women in the bar, so the ladies toilet was quite grim, and even though there were "no football colours" signs posted there were plenty of local football strips worn. (the small print on the signs said it was ok) Tvs were on every wall, so sports were being watched at every turn. We only stayed for one drink and headed on to another pub but I wouldn't necessarily say I'd avoid this place if ever we returned to Greenock, but there are other pubs in the area that are nicer.

The Logie Baird is a modern chain type of bar located in the building that was once the town's…read morecinema. It is open and airy, with free wireless internet access and can be a sociable place to enjoy a few drinks and chat mid-week, yet can transition from being a day time, family-friendly bar to a bustling evening hotspot at the weekend. With plenty of screens it's a good place to watch the football, although they tend to put the volume up just a bit too loud and the staff get difficult if you do have to ask them to tweak it. Having a Friday/Saturday night DJ the place can get busy and noisy at these times, too, but it's a good atmosphere and they generally have plenty of bar staff on, so getting served is not usually an issue. As with most Helensburgh pubs, the patronage is predominantly male due to the close proximity of the naval base, but it does still attract a reasonably balanced crowd - especially being one of the few bars of this type in the area. The food is decent, with generous children's portions - I'd recommend the curly fries over the regular type. Oh, and the sweet chilli chicken panini is both tasty and reasonably cheap. Nevertheless, Logie Baird is always brimming full of local residents and lively banter, so it feels as if it's always been a fixture! It's certainly become a firm favourite amongst my family for food and a wee drink. Drinks are reasonably priced and they have a massive, varied cocktail list which is good on a Friday night if you fancy treating yourself. Meals are all under a tenner and on certain dishes there are two for one offers available. There's a number of dishes suitable for vegetarians including the Mediterranian salad, which I've got to say is one of the best I've tasted. They don't hesitate to pile your plate high with freshly chopped red peppers! As it is so popular it can get rammed in here at weekends, so go early if you're wanting to get a meal. Saying that, the staff work really hard when it's packed and will try their best to serve you as soon as possible. Sometimes it can be a wait, but the food is always worth it and the staff will inform you if the chef is going to take a while preparing your meal. The fish is really fresh and you will most likely clear your plate as it is a cut above the Wetherspoonsian microwave steak bakes. It's set in a gorgeous building with loads of space and whether you're in for the football, with your family or for the DJ at the weekend The Logie Baird caters for everyone. There is a pretty, mock Tudor, exterior. It's located on the main road between Greenock and Largs and there's plenty of parking, both outside and inside near to the platforms). There's an undercover walkway (also attractive) from the station concourse through to the ferry which takes you over to Rothesay on the Isle of Bute.
