One of several trout caught. Great day learning how to use my new fly rod.

We had a great day learning how to use our new rods. Beautiful setting on the ponds with a patient and knowledgeable guide .

First brown trout ever on a fly rod!

I had the chance to spend a month in Salida this past August, and after driving up and down the Arkansas and seeing anglers on the water I knew I had to try my hand at fly fishing. As someone who had never been fly fishing before I opted for a half day guided trip and stopped by the shop ahead of time to book, making my reservation about 5 days in advance. On the morning of my trip the team at Next Eddy got me set up with a fishing license, waders, and boots. My guide Sam did an awesome job explaining everything to me from the very start. My goal for the day was to learn as much as I could, so Sam broke down everything from the gear and rigging, to the bugs we were seeing on the water. I learned how to roll cast, and we hit several different runs at a spot in the canyon near town. Sam showed me how to find spots where fish might be, key principles like "foam is home," and I finally landed a brown trout near the end of our day! The whole experience was amazing and brought me a ton of joy to be out on the water in such a beautiful area. Before leaving town I ended up buying an Echo rod/reel setup from the shop and Sam helped me get set up with all the basics I'd need to go fishing on my own. My first time out I caught two small brown trouts, and I'll chalk it up to luck and the foundational skills I learned on my guided trip. This new sport has been opened up to me thanks to Sam and the team at The Next Eddy, and since that first guided trip I've been out fishing again 3 times including at some spots on the front range closer to home. I highly recommend this shop and their guiding services!

Great place to get some flies/gear/info to have some fun on the Arkansas River. I'll be back for sure.

Sam took my husband and I out for a half day and was great and teaching us what to do, talking about the area, and helping me along over the rocks.

After 10 I politely asked what time they would be winding down as it was too loud to sleep, I was met with a drunk yelling at us (I believe he is the owner). At 1 am he was still yelling about "doing one more shot". Awful experience. Side note the next day I mentioned the experience to someone I didn't know at the boat ramp and the person immediately identified Chapparal Park and the owner who has a serious drinking problem. The other folks at the shop during the day are wonderful and extremely helpful.

OMG.....so many things to look at in here. We stopped for a few fishing lures and flies. Which of course they had. Plus a little bit of everything else. I wanted to hangout for a bit and look around. The woman running the store was so friendly and knew where everything was. She even knew the names of the fishing items were were looking for. Of course we needed power garlic trout bait and yep she had it. NICE job dear!
