Absolute used to be so friendly and a welcoming environment. My most recent visit has been quite the opposite. When going to look at helmets we were shammed into throwing away one we had brought in. We brought in an old helmet to compare sizes to a new one and when asking for the right size the employee shamed us for still having the old helmet despite telling him multiple times it hadn't been used in years. The helmet was sentimental as it was my moms first helmet for when she started mountain biking and the employee continued to throw it away. I wanted to look at a different store for a helmet for myself (Absolutes competitor) but they were sold out so I came back to buy one from Absolute. When I came back in the same employee was rude/caddy making a comment along the line of "What they didn't have what you were looking for" which rubbed me the wrong way and made me less happy spending my money there. After this comment he proceeded to attempt to upsell me into buying a different grade helmet and another bike (despite all of our bikes being right outside) but at this point I had just picked one that seemed it would fit best. Upon checking out I asked if the stickers on the counter were free or not and a different employee proceeded to be smart with me. He sarcastically said if I took a hundred stickers he would charge me $100. As many people from salida know stickers typically do cost in storefronts and I was asking to be respectful. read more

I have never bought my own bike. The only bikes I've owned up to now were hand-me-downs, and none were terribly great bikes. Also, I'm a runner and other than watching a million YouTube videos, I know very little about bikes. I knew I needed a new bike, and I was thinking gravel was the way to go. But being new to bikes, I was nervous to walk into a shop and ask a bunch of questions. Jeremiah was super helpful from the first moment I walked in and I never felt intimidated at Absolute Bikes. They happened to have just the bike I wanted in my size. I took it for a spin and then asked a whole bunch more questions. Jeremiah was amazingly helpful to the very end. Walked out with a bike, a bag full of gear, and some training on fixing a flat. Really, the whole experience could not have gone better. read more

I didn't feel like I was treated as a customer at Absolute, I felt like I was part of their crew. So welcoming and full of knowledge. They special ordered my tires and everything. Absolute Bikes is a gem of a store. The employees to a person are open, friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to spend time answering questions, educating the customer based on what their biking needs are, they have an impressive inventory, and they will never pressure anyone into making a purchasing decision - for them it's all about customer service. They understand that many of the bikes they carry are expensive and so it's imperative that the bike fit the rider's needs and body. They have an amazing accessory inventory too, from glasses, riding apparel, and everything a bike owner might need they have it and in this post Covid world where supply-chains have been hugely disrupted - having stuff in stock is a huge win. I think this is one of the best laid out bike stores I have been in and I have been in quite a few. Every bike there represents the best of the cycling world, road bikes, mountain bikes, cruisers, and eBikes. The staff know their stuff so by the time you leave the store you can be sure you've been well served and educated. read more

Customer service doesn't get any better than the service I received from Andrew. ...Planning for our Monarch Crest ride started weeks ago. Andrew provided clear guidance and much-needed recommendations. Upon arrival, he made sure we had everything we needed for the trip to be successful, including loaning us a spare tube and pump. And to top it all off, Andrew offered me a beer when I arrived at the shop after the ride, which I gladly accepted. They had everything I needed, including a new tail light, electrolyte tablets, and even SPF 15 lip protection, so I could get back out on the road. I also used Absolute's service to pack and ship my bike home, vs doing it myself to take on a plane. They made the process very easy. I highly recommend this shop. read more

First the good: They made my repairs quickly and at a very reasonable cost. The less good and somewhat surprising: I needed a new tube and tube liners for one bike and a new tire for the other. I was told that they may not have the tube or tire to make the repairs. Really? My bikes are very average, with average tire size. After checking; it was determined that they did have a tube and tire. But only ONE choice of tire. They only had ONE tube liner. I asked that they put it in; one is better than none in reducing thorn flats. I presume they didn't put it in, because I wasn't billed for it. For a big bike shop, I'd expect them to be well stocked with tires, tubes and liners. read more

An absolute gem - most shops in this area seemed a little disdainful of me as a road biker, and I hadn't enjoyed my other stops. These guys were super helpful and friendly without expecting me to buy anything. If every bike shop were like this, more people would enjoy the sport and respect cyclists - no attitude, just great service and great advice. I think I'll be back for a souvenir just to support them - I have no doubt that if I lived in Salida, this would be my go-to. Wow! Took one of my mountain bikes in with a failed shifter thoroughly expecting to replace it. The mechanic looked at it, cleaned it and worked shifting the shifter on the rack for about 15 minutes all the time telling me it should start working again. Sure enough it did. I asked how much I owed and was told to just make sure to come back to Absolute Bikes when I really needed something. NO CHARGE. I was absolutely floored. My wife and I just relocated from Phoenix in January. I can tell you this would not have been the same story had I gotten it repaired at the bike shops in Phoenix. I am sure they would have just replaced the shifter and sent me on my way with a hefty bill. Absolute Bikes has added yet one more VERY SATISFIED customer to their roster. Very nice bike shop. Clean, organized and the staff is very friendly. I came in with the intention of renting a mountain bike, but then decided to rent a road bike and go out on I-120 towards I-285. I felt right at home with the Specialized Roubex carbon fiber bike. (this is what I ride at home). $53 a day. Bring your own attire, I also brought a camel back. The ride was great, can't beat the view of the Rockey Mountains as you ride towards I-285. It's a bit tougher riding here since the elevation is 7,000 ft + above sea level, but well worth it. read more
