Street parking is a nightmare, and parking in a nearby lot is a total rip-off! Also, do yourself a favor and arrive EARLY! Showing up 15 minutes before your movie starts might leave you stuck in one of the most uncomfortable seats in the theater, like I was. My first experience at The New Parkway wasn't exactly the best, but let's give credit where credit is due because there were definitely some things I liked! As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by staff, and you can purchase your tickets right there. Just a few steps away is the concession area, where they offer a great variety of food and beverages, including cocktails! They also have a few small tables where you can sit and enjoy your food if you'd rather not eat during the movie or just want somewhere to hang out before your show starts. The theater itself has a pretty cool setup! There are two screening rooms, and inside you'll find a mix of couches, chairs, and small tables. It's definitely a different vibe from your typical movie theater. Now, here's where things went downhill for me. Since we arrived about 15 minutes before our movie, we ended up sitting in chairs behind the couches, and let me tell you, those chairs were EXTREMELY uncomfortable! Another thing that bothered me was seeing couches that could easily accommodate four people being occupied by just one or two people sitting smack dab in the middle! I really think the theater should label the couches with something like "Seats 4" so guests understand that these are shared seating areas. It would make the seating situation much more enjoyable and fair for everyone. On the bright side, the screening room was HUGE, and so was the screen! You could easily enjoy the movie from just about anywhere in the room. One feature I absolutely LOVED was the food delivery service! They'll actually bring your food right to your seat, which is such a nice touch! Overall, while my first visit wasn't quite what I'd hoped for, I can definitely see the appeal of The New Parkway. Between the unique atmosphere, food and drink options, and in-theater service, there's a lot of potential for a great movie night. I'm willing to give it another shot, but next time, I'll definitely be arriving much earlier to snag a comfortable couch! It is not just a simple movie theater - it's also about community. They have numerous events that happened every day. Bingo, trivia nights, and many more. They really cater to the local community. The food is not your typical overpriced movie theater food and the portions are huge! The mushroom pizza was so delicious. Dough was soft and chewy. The garlic fries came in a big bowl, almost felt like I was eating popcorn. The theater itself is very homey. There are a variety of seats, but I preferred the couches on the side. I felt like I was in the comfort of my own home, except I'm watching the movie on a really big screen. One of the coolest theaters I've ever seen!!! My friend rented out one of their rooms for her bday-- such an awesome experience! So grateful she introduced us to this community gem. Grungy, unique vibe-- from the reels of film tape festooning the lobby, to the eclectic assortment of couches and artwork in the open auditorium. I finally made it to a Karaoke Night! It was so very laid back. We started with indecisively looking over the menu for a good 15 minutes, only to find a single soul singing upstairs. He was so good-hearted and made us feel welcome as first timers. And my Goddaughter, 16 years old---so this is family friendly, really enjoyed herself. This place is a classic! Yes, I could come back and sit in the same couch as I did a few years ago, but this place is a cozy/comfy vibe that I'd choose over AMC seats any day. The food is also good! I haven't ordered something I disliked, and it's good portions. They also deliver your orders directly to your seat so you don't miss a second of your movie. The workers are super cool and very friendly. They have tons of events (I haven't been to one yet) and they play their fair share of independent + mainstream movies. You can also rent out a screening room for a private event. Give this local gem a try! This is unlike any theater I've been to before. I love the retro aesthetic, assortment of games and activities, and vegan options. This all started because I asked cashier if they were going to make fresh popcorn in an hour before our movie started . cashier (Diana) feels very comfortable yelling at paying customers. Manager? Tyler has No customers service skills whatsoever. When confronted with the issue regarding his unprofessional cashier, his reply to us was "just so you know, I'm on her side." meaning Diana. Without any confrontation from us, Tyler asked us to leave. We drove 30 miles to see back room and was very disappointed in the treatment we received at Parkway. If you're looking for a cutie movie date or something very comfy cozy solo, I loved my experience at New Parkway. I went to watch Sinners, amazing. They have such a great variety of snacks, I went with the classic popcorn. Obviously it's maybe more economical to get a large and share, but here, get a portion for yourself because they have a whole spice rack to season to your liking. Garlic powder, nutritional yeast, olive oil, whatever makes your heart sing for a good movie. Walking into the theater, it was made up of many unique couches which made the experience even better. I had such a good time and I was super comfortable/not confined during the movie. If you are particular on your movie seat, come before the movie starts and grab a spot! This is an amazing local theatre! I've seen a few showings and definitely impressed by the seating and uniqueness. They host daily free community events which is such a great third space. We stoped by to play bingo and had a great time. The bingo area was packed and lively we even won free movie tickets and concession funds! Not one thing has changed in 6 years since my last reveiw, including the somewhat dingy seats and couches. While The New Parkway isn't my favorite place to watch movie since I'm more into the luxe seats that this place doesn't provide, you can't help but appreciate this independent movie house. It's punk rock thru and thru. It hosts drag bingo, trivia, Saturday morning cartoons with a cereal bar for kids.... It's that community type of place. Food, adult beverages, milkshakes are all available, making this a fun spot for a movie and eats/dessert. Overall, a true indie gem. I came here with a group of friends for trivia night that they hold usually on Thursday nights. Upon entering, there isn't really any signage that says where trivia night is, but there are people who will tell you it's upstairs in the "mezzanine". I would say that inside they can fit quite a bit of people here that by the time trivia night started, there were at least 10 groups of us playing. I've never done trivia nights, so I heard that the way this place does it is different from others. When I went, there were 3 rounds and each round you have 8 minutes to confer with your team. Afterwards, they will count up your points in the end and you get a prize if you get top three. Overall, this was a fun place to do trivia. Everyone there was welcoming, the host who did the questions was super helpful and gave tips if we had questions or felt that we were wrong etc. Would definitely come back again! Loved the theatre and loved the people working there. Great staff, great location. Learn from my mistake. Get there early. We arrived around 5-10 minutes from the start of the movie and there were no decent seats at all. We ended up on the very far right in high top plastic chairs. The viewing angle was poor. I get that they are trying to fill more seats but it was disappointing. A couple other people swung by the only two other seats to the right of us and chose to walk out instead of remaining for the film. I was tempted to do the same. Will be back. And will arrive 30 plus minutes before the film so I can get a decent seat. read more

The New Parkway is an institution in the east bay! Whether it's for a movie premiere (seeing Barbie there was a blast!), a regular moviegoing experience, sports viewing (like the Warriors playoffs), or special events (their annual Oscars party or political debates), it's always a good time here. Their service is super friendly as well (shout out to Pratik!). Food has the most room for improvement (I've ordered the tofu bahn mi, which was really salty) but you can't go wrong with a classic bowl of popcorn and a beer/wine or soda. Also- it is a great venue for parties! You can rent out the theater for birthdays or other special events for screenings. I have enjoyed coming to the New Parkway for years. My most recent visit, however, was quite disappointing. I ordered a 'Parkway Platter", which is $25, described as having a main dish, two sides, a dessert and a drink. Here is what I received: a tiny green side salad, some tater tots (which tasted freezer burned), and a medium sized pile of macaroni. The dessert included was a bag of M&Ms. Aside from being a disappointment in terms of food, the platter also took a really long time to arrive. I came very early (about 40 minutes) before the movie started so that I could eat in the mezzanine prior to the film. Because the food took so long to prepare, that didn't happen.
